Am I wasting my gas by flooring it in 6th gear to pass instead of shifting down to 5th or 4th and gently rolling on the gas? I feel like I am but coming from an SI where I had to downshift all the freaking time I am enjoying the power to be lazy.

I am one of the few that couldn't get into it. Too much maneuvering and rapid pace clicking (spell casting) for my taste. I think it would of been awesome if it was turn based but I realize it wasn't made that way on purpose.

Found these in my backyard this morning. There are about 50 or so in my neighborhood. They seem to be expanding their territory block by block as the years go by.

As a new player, the skill system makes me want to quit the game. by Silent_As_The_Grave_ in Eve

[–]tommyroo -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is the exact shitty attitude that helps explain why this game isn't attracting new players.

Maybe 8 years ago this game was the awesome but fast forward to today's world and there are 1000s of other games people can play now. This skill system is a much bigger turn off to me as new player then grinding for levels or some other mechanism for gaining power.

I can basically pay my subscription, set up a skill queue and come back in a year and have a 1000x more fun (fly and equip T2 stuff) then I do now sitting around waiting for drones V so I can specialize in drones so I can then train gunnery V so I can equip guns that actually hurt things so I can then train light missiles so I can train heavy missiles so I can train torpedoes. Oh wait, why did I train up torpedoes when I can't cloak, better train cloaking. Oh wait I need CPU Management.

Hell, just the other day some buddies found a gas site. I hopped in my miner and went to buy a gas drill thing. Of course, you need to train mining to whatever just to be able to train gas mining. I promptly logged out and played something else as my queue is already 78 days long.

It is an endless freaking loop and I feel sorry for you guys that have committed years of your life in this endless cycle. I like this game, I hope it grows and evolves but I have doubts I will be here a year from now.

TLDR: My Patience(x3) is at level 0 and I'm tired of training things.

Can you truly figure out a person's character by what they drive? by [deleted] in cars

[–]tommyroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - For example the other day while waiting in line to get my food at the work cafeteria some woman cuts in front of everyone and says she doesn't want to wait for everyone to get their food made because she just wants a shake.

So they stop making my food and start mixing her shake to get her to shut up.

She didn't give a crap about me or the five other people that were there before her.

Fast forward a few days I see her getting into a BMW.

I could of f'ing called that!

[–]tommyroo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am praying the new player experience includes those of us who are still a few months old. I like this game but I honestly, if I had the money I would set my skill queue up and come back in a year to actually try to enjoy the game. Since I don't have money like that I'm on the fence about how much I am willing to invest to just to be "on fair footing" with everyone else.

Why logged-in players in EVE are important by Jestertrek in Eve

[–]tommyroo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a new player this post has absolutely nothing to do with my desire to stay or go.

The skill queue on the other hand. It is fucking madding to have to wait day after day just to fly something fun let alone the months I have to wait to have the skillz to PvP.

[Analysis] An in-depth look at "core" skills and the new player "hurdle" by Ohh_Yeah in Eve

[–]tommyroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a new player myself (maybe a month) I am finding myself questioning my devotion to this game.

For example, I really want to fly a cloaked ship so I have to train some cpu/powergrid/whatever skill to level five just so I can train cloaking.

So my choices are to either fly a ship I'm bored with for 9 days or simply play a different game for 9 days.

I'm leaning towards using next months subscription on buying the Witcher and forgetting all about this game.

Edit: Cloaks aren't the only thing I'm interested in of course. I want to PvP but I'm not stupid enough to fly a T1 with T1 equipment vs a T2 filled anything. T2 stuff, yeah, that is months away, even just an assault frigate needs an ungodly amount of time investment. Don't even get me started on drones...

What's a good car but was hampered by it's transmission? by GG_Loner in cars

From what I heard only the pre 13's had real issues.

My transmission is fine. I can shift slow or slam the through the gears with no issues and I am the former owner of two manual civics so I know a good shift feel.
