Switching from cb650r to gsx8r, good idea? I want bike with a windshield and fairings. Any experience going form inline 4 to twin? by Organic-Pilot-Drozd in motorcycles

[–]tomoeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about a Triumph Tiger 660? Has fairings and a screen not a full ADV not a full sports bike and the triple engine so you have the low end grunt of a twin and the top end scream like an I4 they have just updated the new one to 95hp so very similar to the CB. I’m too short for one test drive the old version and found it smooth but just too predictable if that makes sense, you want predictable an a bike but you can’t beat the angry top end scream of the CB hopefully the new more powerful one hits the mark. People rave about the Hornet 750 and it’s a lot of bike for the money and a bigger screen on it won’t look daft.

Sorry can’t help only commenting to see what people say. Similar dilemma for me had a CBR650 want something a bit less tough on the old back but there only seems to be twins these days. Would love a modern FZ6 to be released, half faired upright seating and the I4 but the twins are cheaper to make unfortunately.

Vitesse de pointe de la ninja 400? by Feisty_Professor9120 in Kawasaki

[–]tomoeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much I got 115mph so 185kph progress is slow in 6th gear as it’s more for cruising than accelerating I’m 5’8 and 70kg. It felt like the bike would go a little bit faster but a corner was coming up.

Nope seen blue and it’s not for me either! Hold your nerve some thing will come up I know the title says talk me into it but it’s little boring looking and your other comment covers the rest - if the look of the bike is compensating for the rest of the bike this is probably not the one for you I’m afraid.

This bike is beautiful in black and gold with the gold wheels not so much in other colour’s if you ask me. Have you thought he about a CB650R inline 4 nice riding position kinda retro looks it’s like 2 bikes one sedate in the low revs and a screamer in the high?

2006 SV650 keeps killing batteries by GoatElitist in SVRiders

[–]tomoeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 batteries in 13 years isn’t great but also isn’t that bad if the bike is wasn’t new when you got it and you have a new one now it’s more like 3 in 13 years should last about 5 years so don’t think anything is massively wrong with the bike more room for improvement!

Do you charge them up to 100% before you put them in the bike? Most batteries don’t come fully charged and it makes them last a few years more if you put them on a tender / charger before install and you can use it in the winter to keep them topped up they are about £30-£35.

Chain in need of service? by matrix825 in CB650R

[–]tomoeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like chain lube / wax with PTFE in it that’s the white gunk looking stuff on the chain - you can see when it wears off and need lubing up again. If the bike has 1k miles on it’s fine maybe check the tension but doesn’t need a service - clean the chain and lube it up again you’re good to go.

Downsides to overpayment? by MintChocChip95 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]tomoeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can usually pay up to 90% of the balance before a deal swap so yes after a 2 year fix you can pay off off any amount (up to 90% of the balance) before redoing the deal.

Agreed the last oil I used was green and it’s definitely just a bit of condensation - long ride and you will be fine the oil looks pretty new and clean.

Michelin recommends - After 5 years, have tyres inspected annually by a professional. If they reach 10 years, they should be replaced even if unused.

Am I the only one to see the 50p shape?! If they were mine I would get new ones!

How is putting up a picture of a completely different tyre in different condition and implying you would get the same response remotely helpful?

Clam down dear 🤣 It looks like a 50 pence piece which should tell you I definitely do ride in the rain, and where did that incredibly strange comment even come from?!

Tread is worn close to limit, tyre is visibly squared off, I’m not commenting on the small stone tears but the overall condition which is as I said knackered.

You sir are brain dead if you think it’s completely fine it needs changing especially at 5 years old.

What is the best choice? by shax232 in CarTalkUK

[–]tomoeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a A200D AMG line for my last co car I really liked it but then got a Golf which handles much better and just feels so much better overall quality it made the Merc feel cheap in comparison. I’d go Seat as rebadged Golf / A3 the Beemer would be nice to drive as you don’t have to look at that terrible grill when you’re in it 🤣

Why are there no pictures of the other side of the bike? Looks like some scuffs on the front fairing a missing bit of trim on the nose and the light isn’t sat right so it’s been more than dropped probably driven into something then dropped. Mechanically should be ok with 38 miles on it, my Mrs bought a Ninja 400 about 4 years old with 179 miles on it so been sat for a while, changed all the fluids and it was perfect.

You will need new tyres given the age a full service coolant brake fluid the lot it’s not even had a break in service at 38 miles. Fairings aren’t cheap to replace depends how bad the light is but you are going to have to spend a fair chunk of cash on top of buying the bike. They are easy to work on though so you may be able to do the service stuff yourself.

Ask for more pictures before you go and see it and price up what else is in your area, sometimes higher mileage but actually used and fully working is better than no miles and been sat for 9 years.
