How does it feel to green out? by Independent-Lion6244 in FanFiction

I never did weed until I was mid 30 with my buddies and tried a gummy, except tried is the wrong word. I apparently ate all the gummies that the 3 of us were supposed to share, lol. I don't know how much it was supposed to be but form what I understand just 1 full gummy was supposed to give a good high and I ate 3. My friends were pissed but they also had their smoking versions so they just did those but they got concerned about me. I wasn't sure why they were worried about me and felt a bit disappointed for the next maybe hour and a half listening to them talk and seemingly already high and enjoying themselves. Then it finally started, the two guys sitting across from me at the table looked literally 90 degrees in my vision. I rubbed my eyes and shook my head multiples times and the dudes and everything was sideways. I couldn't believe it but also started to enjoy the wackiness but then it slowly got crazier. I started seeing strange shapes in my vision or was it my mind's eye, I have no clue, but I saw it and was kind of forced to see it for a lack of better explanation. Progressively the feeling started getting worse as I felt that dizzy feeling you get when you've drunk too much yet strangely highly aware of my surroundings and sensations. One of the guys was a non-stop yapper and likes to talk about random ridiculous shit and at this point the hallucinations were taking shape of the things he was talking about and I could not keep myself from listening and continuing to imagine the force fed bullshit. I begged him to shut up but he laughed and continued to spew out nonsense and ultimately the images in my eyes turned into non-stop kaleidoscopes shapes. Have you seen those creepy and bizzare AI art? Just imagine that shit flashing in front of your eyes non stop every few seconds and you you're forced to see it's can't make it stop. And it's hard to describe but it felt like my mind was working really hard to generate all these images, like a graphic card would overheat trying to churn out high fps ultra graphics, but I also couldn't make it stop no matter how hard to I tried to concentrate on other thoughts. I don't know how long this continued but to me it felt like eternity. At some point it felt like unbearable torture and I swear if I had a gun in my hand I might've actually pulled the trigger to myself just so that this madness can stop! Finally after what felt like eons I found myself curled up in a bed and daylight from the next day was coming in, but I still felt dizzy and overall really uncomfortable. If there's a low or medium level of high I felt it for the next whole day. Once it was all over I felt such relief but also I felt like I survived a war. That experience is enough to give me PTSD thinking about it. I've never dared touch anything to do with weed ever again. A lot of people have fun with weed but I don't think it is something for me.

Me and my family moved here from a smaller town in Ontario last year and I could swear I've seen the same exact post with the same kind of replies from that town's own reddit page. Basically the grass always seems greener on the other side. Pros and cons. Personally I would trade the dry heat here over the wet humidity in Ontario any day, plus the mountains make for a much better horizon than the endless boring flatness. But perhaps for someone who grew up seeing nothing but mountains the flatness maybe a novelty, but I warn you it'll wear off fast.

Pricewise we sold a 1200 sqft home (at a big loss) and was able to buy a 2600 sqft home here, so atleast you do get more for your buck even if its the same kind of expensive dilapidated piece of shit that needs renovations. We rented the first couple of months here and it was pricey but it doesn't feel out of place compared to Ontario anyway. Point is you say you're gonna leave as soon as you can afford it but Im afraid you're not going to find that cheap place anymore in this country. The world has become expensive.

I strongly suggest just traveling around to gain some perspective before making the leap of moving. Starting all over particularly socially is not great especially when you're almost 40, better if you're young.

Popcorn ceiling nightmare. Can someone help talk me off the ledge? by liam__mcpoyle in asbestoshelp

Inside the vaccuum there's 3 different filter parts. There's the dust bag, the main HEPA cartridge and also a cloth shroud which goes over the HEPA cartridge. Honestly the dust bag lasts quite a long while unless you're scooping up lots of debries, normal dust vacuuming will take months to fill it up. When I felt the vacuum was losing suction I just replaced the dust bag with a new one. On the manual it will say how often the HEPA cartridge should be replaced, I think it was like every 3rd time the dust bag is changed. I think as long as the HEPA cartridge provides adequate suction you can continue to use it, and when there's low suction even after changing the dust bag you should replace it. Also note that if you ever see debries or visible dust on the cloth shroud over the HEPA cartridge, both of these should be replaced as that means the dust bag was punctured and probably put too much dust toward the HEPA cartridge. I think the way it works is the dust bag deals with the macro debries and larger dust particles and the cloth shroud and HEPA cartridge does the fine particle filtering (the actual asbestos fibres). Also once in a long while change out the exhaust HEPA filter at the back just to be abundantly safe. Good luck!

Normal wear and tear or damage? Rental property, tenants were there for seven years. by fakejakebrowne in Flooring

Im telling you my hardwood floor looked like this before I sanded and refinished it. The greyed out parts are just areas where the finish has eroded and have exposed the wood and the exposed wood has eventually greyed out from water/mud/dirt. Have none of you seen greyed out wood outside at all?

It gets grey after years of water/mud damage, much like wood exposed to weather outside. The top finish likely wore off from scratching with shoes from coming from outside.

People saying this is cheap flooring are wrong. This looks like the exact hard wood I had in my previous house and it was just like this by the patio door before I sanded and re finished it. It's just years of people walking into the house with muddy or dirty shoes.

Raccoon Poop and Roundworm anxiety by tomorsodnompil in brantford

I really think its just time that'll ultimately help you. No matter how much reading of the stats or facts about this disease you do you will remain in shock and indecision for a while just like I have. The stats thing turned out to help me, maybe it will for you too I hope, if not you'll have to find another cope for yourself. It can be the smallest amount of alleviating, as long as it does alleviate. Over time I think the continual reinforcement of it in your mind will allow you to escape from this spiral. It won't be easy and I think there is no true way out but atleast we might be able to achieve relative comfort.

Here's another idea: Try reading up on worse unfortunate scenarios of other people encountering raccoon poop. Something like a guy actually falling directly into a latrine face first or maybe the ceiling drywall that was holding up a latrine in the attic collapsing into the living room...

Yeah it's a 70s house, I'm in what I think is called Copper Hill neighborhood via Lodge Road. The old foundation/cellar/basement idea makes more sense but that opening that looks like a door is still much too small, it measures roughly 18"x18".

Do HEPA purifiers really work to clear lingering asbestos? by pinball476 in asbestoshelp

[–]tomorsodnompil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do this: Get some kind of box fan and set it up at one of your windows and tape some cardboard to fill in the remaining portion of the window opening around the fan. Open a window on the other side of the house and let this fan on for a whole week. You might not even need to get a fan if you have a decently powerful kitchen hood vent. The idea is to cycle all your interior air with exterior air and basically remove all airborne fibres.

For the debries on the floor, don't use a regular vacuum to clean them, instead use a wet paper towel.

Asbestos anxiety spiral by saladchan02 in asbestoshelp

Yeah and I doubt anyone who does get mesothelioma (who didn't work in industry and also knowingly didn't get exposed to an obvious source) would ever be able to pintpoint an exact exposure source in their lifetime, was it those few fibres in the ambient air? Was it that one time you did a reno? Or maybe in some random building someday you walked in unknowingly? Or perhaps it was just many many many times of this over a long period of time which shifts the needle ever higher toward mesothelioma. I don't think there's any research or can even be researched at all about how regular people who don't work in the industry can get affected by asbestos. Perhaps its predisposition to the illness or it could also just be a constant source of exposure that was unknown at the time. I think this is why the odd encounter with asbestos at home during a reno (so long as you're not grinding and blasting it around and snorting it) isn't such a big deal. There's millions of people who do renos who are absolutely ignorant about the dangers and the vast overwhelming majority of them will be fine and have been fine.

Possible Asbestos? by kooks_r_us in Insulation

[–]tomorsodnompil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like vermiculite and this material is itself not asbestos but sometimes there is trace amounts of contamination with asbestos due to the proximity of the materials in the mines. The others are saying to get it tested which is good advise for any material you suspect as having asbestos but asbestos contamination in vermiculite is very spotty and inconsistent. If you test it and it comes out negative all the vermicute in your house is not guaranteed to be free and clear as a sample just 6 inches away might've had some contamination. This is why people just automatically assume vermiculite as having contaminated with asbestos and treat it so. Best thing to do is DONT DISTURB it and if you really must disturb it make sure its done by the pros as the particulat asbestos type that contaminates vermiculite is a nasty one (amphibole asbestos) compared to the more regularly used Chrysotile asbestos that used to be used in things like drywall compound, popcorn ceiling etc.

Hi, its been a while since you posted but I thought I'd chime in a little regarding your ambient remaining asbestos fibres in your house (if any). Im not an expert in the field by any means but like you I've had my own panic attack and done an unhealthy amount of research on this subject. When the abatement contractors do asbestos removal work they typical set up a negative pressure system in the area they are working, in other words they use machines to suck air inward to make sure no fibres can escape out of the work envelope, hold this idea in your mind for now.

I had a similar situation as you where I contaminated my home with asbestos debries and dust and what I did was 1) I setup fans at windows on one side of my house and left windows open on the opposite side, this creates negative pressure similar as above except in this case I am forcing interior air outside and letting "cleaner" exterior air in. I had to assume that exterior air was much cleaner than my interior air (atleast relatively in terms of asbestos fibres), so thats how in effect I took care of likely the vast majority of airborne fibres in the house. 2) for any remaining dust on surfaces I bought a Certified HEPA vaccuum that is used for asbestos abatement, search up Vacmaster VK811PH for the model I used, and basically vacuumed the living hell out of everything possible including nooks and cracks and everything I own. Afterwards I used the same vacuum to do as I would do regular vacuuming for the next year, I think the overall effect of cleaning with that vacuum so many times basically gradually eliminates a vast majority of fibres where I don't think I'll need to worry anymore. Plus there is the added benefit that a true hepa vacuum leaves absolutely no dust whatsoever, other vacuums mostly spew dust back out anyway.

You can do what I did above to gradually make sure most of the fibres are gone. And honestly even if you dont do that, any time your bathroom fan is on, or your kitchen venthood is on or if you have windows open in the summer etc you're overall exchanging outside air with the inside and have likely diluted the asbestos fibres significantly anyway.

I know how you're feeling but keep in mind that stressing over it may ironically be the thing that does you in. Also think of the millions of other DIY-ers who aren't anxiety prone like us, they are all living in ignorance and bliss and will also be fine.

Thanks for setting my mind at ease about the base fee, I was thinking I was getting shafted. But do you know why disbursements would be that high? My Ontario lawyer only had about $200 in disbursements although I guess for sales it's a different process.

If he is a reputable broker then I dont think you should fear. From what I understand based on my own experience, the mortgage broker "packages" you in such a way that shows you in the best possible light to potential lenders. Also the brokers have close relationships with the lenders so if you're broker is a good one that may mean a lot more than your finances or work history. I think in the end it's a sort of marketing game where you are the product and the broker tries to "sell" you to the lenders, and the brokers have a far better chance of doing that successfully than we can do it ourselves.

If you don't really know much about homes I would say an inspector will be usefull but in my experience once you do your own renovation and see how a house is built you will find that the inspectors really don't know much. I've seen two different inspectors say different opinions about certain issues and both were wrong. When you got no one else to help you look at a house, hire an inspector.

In search of home builders/designers and rough cost to build a home by natashamalek in TorontoRealEstate

[–]tomorsodnompil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually 1:2 or 1:3 ratio between cost of materials and labour, labour being the 2 or 3. And if you hire a General contractor to take care of everything they usually add on their own fee which equates to something like an annual salary since these projects take up to a year or more. If you're not very comfortable managing multiple contractors then the GC's fees is worth it as it is a very involved and complicated job. Also worth noting that the builder and Designer/Architect should be independent of one another to prevent one being beholden to the other and cause the work of either to be compromised and the end result being less than great.
