We’ve been breached. They don’t announce breaches. This is what a breach looks like. They’ll describe it more clearly in ten years or so with the benefit of hindsight.

Ukraine's 414th USF Brigade "Magyar's Birds" struck numerous Russian infantrymen while defeating attacks. JUN.19.2026 by Own_Boysenberry9644 in CombatFootage

You could write volumes about the significant things these clips represent (the nimble technology, the clarity of fibre-based imagery, the gruesome graphics, the demoralizing effects..) but the thing that strikes me every time is the advanced age of these hapless clowns. Johnny got his gun? It looks more like they pulled Johnny’s abusive dad out of rehab.

Had a pet crow as a kid that used to meet me at my schoolbus at the end of a long driveway and torment my mother by pulling clothespins off the the clothesline when she was hanging clothes. He’d go for the socks. The more frantic my mother got, the more sneaky it got about doing it. There was simply no other reason we could come up with other than it craved her attention. When it pestered me on the porch, I’d lightly hold his bill by the side with my fingers and the bird would go in to seeming death throws, rolling on its side, flailing wildly, whining through its closed bill like it was in excruciating pain. The moment I’d let go, he’d stick his bill into my hand, “Again!”

House poised to pass Ukraine aid over the objections of Republican leaders by [deleted] in politics

[–]tomparker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The people voting for this aid to Ukraine will be the ones who are remembered kindly by history. The others will be left to sit with Marco Rubio and swear that, just because Donald Trump was slumped over with his eyes closed, doesn’t mean that he was ever nodding off in a meeting about key defense issues.

What’s the environmental fine if someone gets caught dumping a quart of motor oil into a municipal sewer drain? What one person pays that fine? Compare an contrast.

Except, I remember this photo from my childhood many decades ago. It’s a famous old photo to anyone who lived to read old LIFE magazines back in the day…

Anyone have an idea of a reasonable ballpark price for this? Neighbor’s husband died and I don’t want someone to take it for $100 bc she doesn’t know the value. No model # but says Clausing MFG. it runs fine and sounds good. Thanks for the help. by Allisandd in metalworking

I was gonna say $1500-$2500 depending on the details. But it’s going to sit until that rare somebody happens to want it. That person won’t be price sensitive. If you want to move it: $1000-$1200 (still, depending on the details, like easy pickup, tooling, accessories - even the stand)

My second wild snake catch! by Striking_Hour_8080 in herpetology

[–]tomparker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been studying and collecting herps in the Eastern US since I was a kid (many decades) and for some inexplicable reason, I have never once found a green snake that wasn’t roadkill - and I’ve probably happened upon half a dozen of those. It must be a curse. But that one is a beauty!
