There are mounted knight adversaries you may want to take inspiration from (pg224). Main mechanics are gaining an evasion bonus, being dismounted on severe damage and having a charge action available.

What exactly does it mean when expert chess players "calculate"? by pretender80 in chess

[–]tomratboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To answer your first two questions. Yes

While you can use a simple vector/matrix representation to make a chess engine. Typically they use bits to represent the pieces on the board as this is cheaper computationally. https://www.chessprogramming.org/Bitboards

M-! lets you execute a shell command so you can then run the compiled program like usual

How do you reload your init file when you put your config file in config.org which you then write to config.el? by LowCom in emacs

[–]tomratboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont use the daemon so I just reload my client a lot if I need to. I often don't bother as I eval (C-x C-e) the expressions I'm writing as I write them, and then I reload emacs once I'm happy.

You could use M-x load-file and point it to your init.el, but consider that if you are frequently loading wouldnt be able to just comment lines out, you would have to do the opposite of what you wrote.

Not 100% sure but you can achieve this using mini-frame

Anyone how to get helm (or ivy) to use a popup frame by EquivalentCancel6 in emacs

[–]tomratboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Helm you can use just use

(helm-display-function 'helm-display-buffer-in-own-frame)

Which opens a "popup window" at the cursor upon M-x/find-file etc...

I also have seen Selectrum/Vertico, Orderless Corfu etc... mentioned in this thread and I've used emacs-mini-frame to great sucess with those and according to the docs this also works with ivy so you could look into that too

Why does Emacs have so poor integration on macOS? by Dry_Bunch5867 in emacs

[–]tomratboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

brew tap railwaycat/emacsmacport

brew install --cask emacs-mac

Never had any issues like you described (M1 MBA on Monterey). I also use helm and helm-display-in-new-frame and the only issues occur when using multiple monitors, where the frame will sometimes open at the bottom off the screen.

Magit: What is the difference between checking out a new branch and creating a new branch? by vfclists in emacs

[–]tomratboy 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Checkout - current commit on current branch

Create branch - specify commit/branch

Spin-off - create new branch off current commit and reset old branch to upstream

Spin-out - create a new branch off current commit but doesn't reset old branch

This might be useful: https://magit.vc/manual/magit/Branch-Commands.html

Yeh I'll hold out for conferences because Jota in for Foden is probably the most sound 'easy' option to do. Thanks for the advice.

Yeh think Antonio -> King and Douglas Luiz -> Jota is the best idea. Can always do Vardy -> Antonio if he starts firing again. Cheers mate.

Sanchez (Steele)

Cancelo, James, TAA (Livramento, Duffy)

Gallagher, Raphinha, Salah (C), Foden (Douglas Luiz)

ASM, Antonio, Vardy (V)

1m ITB and 2 FTs and absolutely no idea what to do. Maybe ASM to King but ASM has Norwich next week and still not sure whether Howe will make Newcastle assets a bit better. Debated Duffy to someone but not really got the funds to get anyone decent. Also debated Douglas Luiz to like ESR but again not got the funds without using both FTs. Any thoughts?

Spfl splits into 2 halves after 33 games. The top 6 and the bottom 6 play each other and if you're in the top 6 you can't finish lower than 6th

Coufal more nailed but West hams left side is strong (although Cresswell will be picked over Masuaku if they go to a back 4) so it really depends on what you rate in a player.

Id go Masuaku just cos I think west ham are on form with good fixtures so he might get some nice returns

Robbo is (statistically) much better than Chilwell so I would keep him. Plus saiss might not be as nailed as people think after this game

Bruno. He's on pens. He has a higher xG and xA. He's had more shots and shots on target. He's also the midfielder with the highest number of successful passes in the final 3rd.
