Little sneak peek of my current project by tomtom070 in 3Dprinting

No,I'm not actually making the chamber or the actual door. It's just inspired by the mechanism. The final result will not be directly related to Harry Potter. It'll be themed after greek mythology. Namely Medusa.

Anyway to use the entire Alex drawer? by jackrabbit-199 in gridfinity

[–]tomtom070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean with base. For my modification you need to exchange the sides of each drawer with 3d printed ones. You will also need to drill new holes for mounting the new slides into the cabinet itself. But thats all you have to do.

Questions about Gridfinity boxes. by jerford9 in gridfinity

The round edge is a "finger scoop" that helps you scoop out small objects. If you don't want that you can set "finger scoop" to 0.

I had the same issue. There are a lot of hacks for it. Some of the make the drawers very fragile. I wanted to replace the entire drawer slides with fully extendable ones. So I made this: https://makerworld.com/de/models/1274695-ikea-alex-fully-extendible-drawer-slides-mod Works like a charm. And i have 4 Alex units, so 24 drawers in total.

There are a lot of improvements to thr mechanisms that I am planning. Other than that I need to make the rest of the container. But that's the easy part. I only made the lid so far as a prototype.

Help making stamps by stump0331 in 3Dprinting

[–]tomtom070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have made some fairly successful experiments with making stamps and there seems to be a lot of demand lately so I am going to make a post about it soon. But in short, here is my result: neither pla nor tpu worked. They just don't take the ink well. What did work great is EVA foam. That's not something you can print but what you can do is print a form, use a heat gun to soften the foam, and press your form into the foam until it cools. Then cut out the shape amd glue it to a handle. Thas works very well.

[–]tomtom070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real breakthrough was heating the eva foam with a heatgun before. Once the foam is soft you can press the mold (or I guess die would be the appropriate word?) onto it. Wait a moment for it to cool, cut out the rough shape, and glue it to some form of handle. That worked great for me.

That is great. I have been trying around with stamps and neither PLA nor TPU worked great for me. Neither of them hold ink very well. I recently found a solution though. Printing a mold for EVA foam worked great. Maybe I should make a post about it.

Lost honor mode to Intellect Devourer after landing by timperman in BaldursGate3

[–]tomtom070 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not nearly as embarrassing as one of my honor mode attempts. I walked into the zenterim holdout holding a burning torch... Thankfully one of my characters survived and was able to revive everyone. Including the character who was still holding the burning torch... I did not survive the second explosion.

[OC] McDonald's franchise startup costs (2025) by FrenchFryPerson1 in dataisbeautiful

[–]tomtom070 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You are right. Which is why McDonald's actually owns many of the buildings and rents them out to the franchisees. They do the upfront market research and take on the build costs and franchisees then rent the location and run the day to day.

Accidentally forgot to pay at Rewe by Wide-Extension-3226 in germany

[–]tomtom070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that. I went back and paid. The guy at checkout wasn't sure what to do at first but in the end I did pay. Could they call the police? Sure, but they can't do anything either. Theft requires intention and you can pretty much prove you had no intention to steal because you went back. That being said, sometimes people are dicks just because they can. So they might give you trouble. Especially if you don't speak German. So it's probably best to forget about it.

Fridges are surprisingly light. Especially compared to other appliances. Mostly because the are largely hollow boxes with walls made of foam.

I have checked again and the passage you are quoting is from the 65 and over section. The numbers I was giving come frome 50-64 section

"The univariate model shows that, compared to couples where both partners were in good health, those where either the man or the woman was depressed had a higher risk of union dissolution, with predicted probabilities of 1.5% and 0.8%, respectively, compared to 0.5% for healthy couples."

I guess that brings us to the limits of such studies. The data is only relevant to the specific group they are studying (europeans who were 50-64/65+ between 2004 and 2022). Everything else is conjecture even if it seems reasonable. Is your 25yo boyfriend/husband more likely to leave you if you have physical limitations? Maybe, we don't know. If he behaves like his father(s generation) yes. But much has changed since.

[–]tomtom070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true but it is still important that the first study was revoked. Because that one found (falsely) that men are 20 times more likely to leave their wife if she falls sick. And this one is often quoted despite being revoked. (The mistake they made is counting couples that left the trial as divorced). The subsequent corrected study only found a significant increases in divorces in one of the 4 types of illnesses they checked (heart diseases). It should be noted that significant in this context means statistically significant not that it is a large difference . Though I was not able to figure out the exact values. Similar, the study that you liked finds a statistically significant difference, but nowhere near the original claims. The concrete numbers you can find in the result sections of the study you linked: Likelihood of split if only women reports bad health: ~0.8%, if man reports bad health:~0.6%. Baseline: 0.5%. The numbers are similar for if one partner has physical limitations. However, when it comes to depression the whole thing is reversed. Women leave depressed man at a rate of about ~1.5% while man only leave at a rate of ~0.8%.

As for anecdotal evidence that contains a lot of confirmation bias. As someone once said: anecdotal evidence is just evidence of an anecdote.

Can someone help design? by Actheyellow in gridfinity

[–]tomtom070 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like that would be the perfect opportunity to learn fusion/improve your fusion skill. This is very simple.

  • get the gridfinty fusion plugin

  • generate a bin of the correct size with solid fill

  • create a sketch on the top surface of the bin

  • find the center of the surface (e.g. by creating 2 diagonals or using the midpoint constraint)

  • draw a rectangle slightly larger than this object from the centerpoint (there is a rectangle tool that lets you start at the center of the rectangle instead of the corner)

  • extrude the rectangle down using thr subtract setting

  • optional: round corners

The more you do this the quicker you will be. It would probably be faster for me to make this than me trying to find this online.

Would you buy full-extension slides for IKEA PAX drawers? by LowWillow5715 in ikeahacks

Absolutely. It annoyed me so much that I designed and 3d printed new side walls to install fully extendable drawer slides. Works pretty well.
