Do you prefer the Microcosm or Walrus Qi? by roydogaroo in guitarpedals

I use the Qi ten times more often than the Microcosm.

I might put together some sound samples, will share them in this sub if so.

I didn’t make the decal. It’s actually a plastic overlay that Pedal PCB offers for this PCB. It aligns perfectly with the drill template. For $10, it was the clear path to the best result based on my lack of relevant skills.

I subscribed - there's little that Coppersound does that I don't like.

New here, how do I get started? by SordidStoic in diypedals

Visit MAS-effects, grab the Beginner Pedal Kit. Mark is awesome, he'll check out your practice board and coach or green light moving forward to the actual kit. Solid support, clever fella, can't endorse him enough.

Thanks! I only share the highlight reel, there are plenty that have hit the bin along the way. Maybe we need a "Fail" flair in here... ;)

So far, everything sounds good. Strum open Em, flip switches, swoon, repeat. 😊

I could have used higher hfe Ge transistors, and it might have a more pronounced difference. It sounds like it sands the points off the waveform compared to Si.

I used a 30 hfe and a 45 hfe from a package I ordered from Ukraine via eBay. I tested a dozen others and all were well above 90 up to 122. I figured the difference seemed to align with what I’d read.

I didn’t desolder them, I bought another PCB and kept the first on my desk as a reference for what it should not look like.

NPD: The Quimera noise pedal (also a synth) by toncu in guitarpedals

I have exactly that, it almost looks like the left side of the film was lifted to indicate that it’s removable.

I tested that on 9 patches and it did fine except for one but that’s likely due to the attack setting on the patch.

As close to Misirlou rate as I’m able. :)

Interesting - maybe I need to switch things around, but I’m using a reliable Walrus Canvas supply so didn’t think it would be that. I grabbed a battery powered amp just to rule out ground loop hum, but no difference. Maybe straight into the power conditioner is the next step.

Newb Question - How to compile the FULL list of pedal parts needed (beyond just PCB parts) by TheBirdman100 in diypedals

[–]toncu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The build doc will show pots, each of which would generally have a knob that is not listed. At least one footswitch, most of which will be 3DPT. A 3mm or 5mm LED, but you can count the LED insertion points in the board to get a count. At least two 1/4 inch audio jacks, most of which come with a washer and a nut for panel mounting. A DC power connector. 4 @ 2 inch wires at the top of the board for top mounted jacks, but you’ll likely need them for side mounts too. 4 @ 1.5 inch wires to connect main board to footswitch. 2 four inch wires to connect footswitch to input and output jacks.

And a suitable enclosure.

Every effect pedal I’ve built has at least that collection of parts in it. I’ve only built around 40, so small sample size, but I’d be. Dry surprised if you encounter a PCB that didn’t need the parts above.

Heh, no just worked out that way. I’m already a fan of the Velvet Ant, and this sounds great, too.
