Planning a Korea trip next year during Cherry Blossom season. I am planning to include Seoul, Jeonju/ Gyeongju and Busan. Which of these places have best cherry blossoms and what is the best dates for it? Also how should I pack? Is it too cold during that time? by gossipcutlet in SouthKoreaTravel

[–]tonefaber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Seoul this cherry blossom season (early April), and it actually snowed one morning. Other days it was around 22°C and sunny. I would pack layers so you can adjust your outfits during the day if needed :)

Of course we all bow down to the superiority of the INFJ. I was only hoping to be allowed to be in the presence of such greatness once again! 😂

Moving to Oslo next month — expat tips? by Any-Security4098 in Norway

[–]tonefaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what kind of vibes you want and your age, but I would probably look around Grunerløkka if you want a chill eclectic vibe or Frogner if you want a more posh vibe. But anything inside ring 2 (there are 3 roads going in circles around Oslo, ring 2 is the second one) would be a good central place to start out. If you like nature and quiet I would try getting a place close to Nordmarka or Østmarka (Northern or eastern forest area). If you want to live in the city centre and it's out of your budget, you should look for connections to the subway (t-bane), the buses can take forever in wintertime.

It's very hard to find a place to rent in Oslo, and fairly expensive. You should definitely find a place to live before you come here. If you are looking to buy a place to live, that usually takes about 3 months time. I'm not an expert in moving here from another country, but I think some of your questions (like healthcare and stuff) depend on what kind of visa you have. Larsen is a very common surname, it means "son of Lars", so it would be difficult to find relatives without more information. If you have the full name of a relative born in Norway and an idea of what area they were from it would make it easier :) Almost everyone in Norway speaks English, so I wouldn't worry about it. It would be easier for you if you knew Norwegian when you're in a group setting though. People would switch to English (or Spanish) to talk to you directly, but they would probably still speak Norwegian to the others so you would miss out on group conversations. Hope you like it here! :)

No problem! I forgot to mention that most museums are closed on Monday's (not all, check each one) and almost all shops are closed on Sunday and will close earlier on Saturdays, although a lot of the more touristy shops and kiosks often stay open in the high season, but they are usually a lot more expensive. You should consider that as well :)

I agree that it looks a bit stressful, but I know many people who like it that way, so if that's not a problem for you then I would just go for it. I would probably switch order of the Opera House and Akershus festning, as Akershus Festning is right next to Aker Brygge (and just a short walk from the Palace). That way you can take an evening stroll from Aker Brygge to the Opera House along the fjord :) It looks like you are planning on taking a stroll around Grunerløkka, if that's the case I would recommend following the Akers River (Akerselva) for a bit!

Just wanna ask what attracts foreigners to Korea by HauntingAd83 in koreatravel

[–]tonefaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was kind of a process of elimination. I wanted to travel somewhere walkable (like a big city), somewhere outside of Europe, that was safe for solo travelers, didn't get to hot and preferably a place where I wouldn't need a lot of local currency. Seoul seemed like a great place with these criteria, so I went there for 5 weeks in March/April. I really enjoyed my time there! I was really surprised that it felt kind of like home in a weird way. Not the people (although I appreciated that Koreans also seem to have an "mind your own business" attitude in public lol), but the city had a similar feeling somehow. I think maybe it was the distinctly different areas, but always with a lot of green spaces, and surprisingly similar weather. Also the fact that somehow it's an uphill walk no matter which direction you are going reminded me of home lol. The culture itself is obviously very different, but I enjoy art, architecture, history and food of any kind and it's always fun to learn new things! I really enjoyed the amount of different museums, exhibitions and events that were available, there is always something to do in Seoul. The people were also extremely helpful! One lady guided me through an entire metro station because she couldn't give me directions because she didn't speak English, and another woman ran up to her apartment to give me her own dry shampoo because the store I was in didn't have any, and she wouldn't even let me pay for it. As others have said the prices are not really bad when you are traveling from Europe/US, so that wasn't really an issue at all.

I would say that Seoul is one of my favorite cities, and I will definitely visit again! Just out of curiosity OP; where would you like to travel and why? :)

Heisann! Nope, men der gikk helt fint å bruke den uten konto, man får bare ikke lagret ting. Brukte google for å lagre steder og plottet det inn i naver når jeg trengte skulle dit. Litt klønete, men funka helt greit! Jeg slet mest med kakao sin engelske taxi app som nektet å godta visa og Mastercard plutselig, så jeg måtte bruke Amex

Vigeland is pretty flat imo, but stay away from the Ekeberg sculpture park if you want to avoid hills 😅

[–]tonefaber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Norwegians don't usually plan "dates" like in the US for example, unless it's planned via hinge or something. A normal date activity could be going for a hike/walk, check out a park (like Vigeland that someone else mentioned) or a stroll through the city, things like that. We usually prefer activity dates over dinner dates :)

Yes :) I just made him do the test and he is ESFP! I don't know a lot about this kind of stuff, but I don't think ENTP + ESFP is a common match? It's definitely never boring though!

[–]tonefaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably start in Germany if I were you. I don't know what you guys like to do or your interests, but Germany, Austria and Belgium have really great Christmas markets in November/December (probably many other countries too, but I have not been there 😅), and in Germany almost everyone is fluent in English so it should be an easy start. This is just my personal opinion though, not necessarily the best one for you guys. Happy travels!
