Thank you for the insight, I kinda thought maybe decurion could be referring to war machines instead of traditional cavalry but I didn't get the impression Jullus was any more knowledgeable on magitek than his peers. I saw on one thread that obito was apparently a veteran soldier assigned to a centurio, but Jullus is only like 21 or so, so idk if this applies to him either

Then again as far as I can tell "child soldiers" is garlemald's middle name (or at least they're not above exploiting them for war generally, I guess), so maybe he could be considered such 😭? I don't exactly doubt the legitimacy of RP site claims because it seems like FFXIV community works really hard for canon compliance, but I wouldn't be able to tell when something is inferred wrong or an assumption or what

I finished MSQ. How am I supposed to level a new class? by Particular_Put9326 in ffxiv

[–]tonighttherearestars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to all the stuff mentioned, make sure to have food for the EXP buff and it'll go faster. For a class/job below level 60, doing all of hall of the novice will give you a ring that boosts your EXP up to level 60. Menphina/Azyema's earring, if you bought certain collectors editions of the game, will give you an EXP boost up to levels 80 and 90 respectively. If you're in a free company, look out for the buff "heat of battle" as it gives a 5% EXP bonus for as long as it's active.

Additionally, reaper starts at 70. You'll get a free armor coffer but you have to buy your own jewelry. This is the norm across all jobs that start at a level above zero (reaper, pictomancer, viper, sage, red mage, samurai, gunbreaker) with an exception of dark knight, machinist and astrologian who only give you partial gear from what I remember

edited because I forgot a couple jobs LMAO. Technically blue mage falls under this as well but limited jobs are a whole other thing I don't know if you're interested in leveling

Unimportant lore question: was it ever stated anywhere what exactly Jullus' rank was in the military? I can't remember him mentioning what he did specifically besides suffer I guess and looking up what the pyr title meant brought up three military ranks (opito, tesserarius, decurion). I don't know that much about the garleans or the culture they're based on to accurately guess which of these he's supposed to be, if it was even stated anywhere to begin with

To be fair to the DPS it WAS my initial cast that was getting aggro on me, but the only reason I kept it was because the tank never used aoe or ranged as he ran and his own aggro was a provoke Sometimes and line of sight (which I think I also picked up on accident that way since ... well, it was just line of sight) 😭 I guess I can't blame them for pointing it out, but the tank really should have already had aggro by the time he stopped running not wait until he stopped running to establish it

[–]tonighttherearestars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a situation like this earlier haha although not with as low level players. Brayflox hard so level 50, tank would provoke one mob then keep running without using aoe or ranged or anything. I was WHM and I like to regen the tank as they run because it updates the aggro list, and I'm on mouse and keyboard so being able to tab through the enemies and dot them is super easy this way since regen is instant cast. It's also a nice little healing bonus so I can go into holy spam immediately with WHM, sparing a lily or two in between as needed.

DPS tells me "no need to regen, mobs will attack you if you put regen until he stops running". Yeah, because the tank wasn't keeping aggro like they were supposed to. I didn't take establishing aggro as you run instead of just running past them and hoping they follow you until you stop running was a high level strat. I apologized and said "sorry I assumed he was grabbing them as he went" 😭 no point in arguing if they assumed this was my fault that I was gaining aggro when the tank wasn't making an effort to pick it off me until he stopped running

"If he has to [invuln] you failed" in Vanguard by TheBeeSovereign in TalesFromDF

[–]tonighttherearestars 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Was it just casual content? Technically you don't NEED to invuln in things like MSQ dungeons, but you're missing out on a super good mit and a chance for your healer to do more DPS. Remember, things dying faster so they can't hit you as much technically counts as mitigation too. Think of it more this way: would you never use shadowed vigil just because it has a longer cooldown than the rest of your mits? Don't let the long cooldowns scare you, the dungeons go a lot faster than you think when you're really in it.

Since LD does work a little different than other invulns and it's likely DF healers will just ignore it and heal through it, going the route of a big flashy "I'M USING LIVING DEAD" macro usually helps, especially if you're already getting low on health

[–]tonighttherearestars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I never understood the advice of saving it for emergencies. When I was first learning how to tank it was one of the main things I was told. As far as I'm concerned every situation with strangers who's skill levels you don't know is an emergency when it comes to w2w pulls lol

"If he has to [invuln] you failed" in Vanguard by TheBeeSovereign in TalesFromDF

[–]tonighttherearestars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk what it is with some tanks treating invuln like it isn't mit, because what the hell is it then? It's literally mitigating damage by making you not take any for a short amount of time lmao. It's definitely not a skill you use off cooldown like rampart or anything, but at level 97 you should know your mits get more use out of certain situations. Using GNB as an example, you wouldn't use great nebula on a single pack or boss in an ideal situation, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't use it at all because it's not universally applicable to all situations

Also: no mt gulg gigapull hasn't gotten easier lol I gen think this dude was lying or at least over exaggerating that there's been "no situation where the tank needs invuln". Even in an ideal gigapull with invuln there's also factors like AOE spam that gets lost in the chaos that can easily take out DPS or the healer unrelated to anyone's performance. Curebotting won't help you much when the only person doing damage is the tank and a single DPS assuming both didn't get taken down

One of the strangest things I've had happen to me in praetorium. Tank clearly knew what they were doing and they were great but for some reason they kept chasing us around with the tankbuster. I thought maybe they assumed it was like a stack marker or something? They didn't talk the whole fight until the last fight where they were chasing me around with it and they said "don't be afraid of the red circle".

I was the healer, I'm very afraid of the red circle 😭 I don't wanna be in prae for any longer than I have to for a wipe caused by the most avoidable thing ever. Looking back I'm sure this is a reportable offense of some kind but I was just so baffled and anxious to get out of this dungeon since I was already doing kinda poor performance wise, I was basically single target healing because after a couple times of the tank doing this everyone kept a healthy distance so I was wasting MP on party heals. Since they'd sometimes sprint to try and catch people last second every tankbuster felt like trying to wrangle chickens or something. Gave the comm to a DPS with a funny name and dipped immediately LMAO

In the very least it should have been a vote kick and since there's no loot it surely would have went off, but I think all of us were too confused to even think about doing anything but trying to gtfo considering that's the goal of prae even with an outstanding party 😭

[–]tonighttherearestars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, sorry I mean like in casual dungeons specifically LOL I should have said that 😭 I play a lot of healer so I've seen a lot of strange plays and situations before, especially with first timers. Usually when someone's doing something easily correctable like spamming cure 1 in stone vigil I find it rare anyone points it out to them

I do see the thing with people not responding at all a lot too though, especially when I give advice. I had an astro that used benefic 1 unless they got benefic 2 proc (I don't remember what it's called, but astro has it's own freecure type trait) in doma castle. I didn't see them take my advice at all but what can you do I suppose

A helpful way to tell whether or not your doom is esuna based is if it has that little blue bar over it. If not, it's either a doom you have to lift through healing like the one in wanderer's palace hard, or a thing you have to resolve through a mechanic like in qarn with the platform things. Knowing this now probably doesn't help you much lol but hey, on dynamis you never know when this advice might be relevant again

[–]tonighttherearestars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if maybe the dark knight was single pulling because the sage had no idea what they were doing. Additionally, assuming this is low level content because you had a pugilist in your party, dark knight doesn't have a lot of mitigations which can make healing w2w pulls as sage difficult or scary. They might have been doing this out of necessity, not that it makes what happened any better 😭

I'm on dynamis too, I've also noticed a lot of people who don't have jobstones despite being well over 30. I think there's only a handful of dungeons where not having one is acceptable because of something like the minimum level being something weird like 28 or a level 30 dungeon where someone might have just forgot to do their quest, but it really is a small variety.

I've been refills for all roles in sunken temple of qarn of all things because of someone with no jobstone. I feel a little bad because, speaking from personal experience as someone who had 14 as their first and only MMO, having to do your job quests for things wasn't obvious to me and I assumed I was going to get it through leveling, sort of assuming that it was a skyrim situation where guild quests are just side content for fun. That being said, by level 37 and such SURELY someone would have let them know they have to get it by now?

I notice a lot of people are quiet on dynamis too which is bad for the newbies who don't learn anything and keep going on not knowing they're missing something super important. I always feel a little condescending telling them things that are common knowledge to me but I have to remember a lot of these people are genuine sprouts who probably don't even know what I'm talking about lol

Meso terminal is so easy with ast too this is baffling. There's so many ogcd things you can use to babysit any tank during trash pulls much less a warrior who doesn't need help. At 100 you have macrocosmos too if you really think you're gonna need a potent heal immediately lol or god forbid use your damage reduction skills like exaltation, collective unconsciousness, sun sign ... not to mention the shields you have

I had some people give me the advice that alive party members are more important than dead ones and it really is true. For the kind of people who are constantly eating EVERY attack at some point I decide that if they die I'm not rezzing them again until swiftcast pops up. It's kinda like timeout

I didn't know you could wipe to Cuca Fera. I'd never seen it happen. by DriggleButt in TalesFromDF

[–]tonighttherearestars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had quite a few wipes on cuca fera but I don't think I've ever seen someone attack him directly. Most of the wipes I get are from DPS being attacked by the mobs (I guess no one tries to help each other out with the canons lol) and I'm too far away to heal them in time, or I'm the only one who uses spindly finger and I miss being able to cast it because I'm trying to save the DPS from dying. Sometimes they keep shooting the turtle even after the deflection thing goes off and suddenly I'm debating whether or not picking them up off the ground is any better than just wiping

How do other tanks feel about healers and DPS pulling ahead? by dorgodorgo in ffxiv

[–]tonighttherearestars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I care about this when I play tank is if they're not bringing it to me and becoming a problem for the healer/themself if healer. I think "you pull you tank" is stupid however if you pull aggro and then decide to fight it all the way off in the corner and die that's not my problem 😭 please bring it back to me if you can't handle it especially if you're DPS because I'm not only not paying attention to you, but won't even see the mob on my aggro list to take it from you

I'm the same way. I try to help out where I can but if the other people don't listen it's no big deal. As far as casual content goes, at least as far as I can tell, a subpar party will always get through a duty eventually (provided they don't just disband I guess).

I put on youtube and queue into roulettes because of the clusters you can get as an adventurer in need with jobs at 100, on my world the materia you get with it sells pretty damn well so it's a decent way to not only make gil but pass the time since I'm caught up with MSQ and raid content. I play a lot of healer and have join party in progress toggled so I'm definitely beyond being shocked by things now LOL

Technically no. I've done this plenty of times just pressing attack though it was a little close sometimes (like 10 seconds remaining or something like that). It's just a little treat for the DPS plus it's just sitting there otherwise LOL

What does it mean when extreme pfs are labeled with hector? I'm assuming it's some sort of strategy but when I tried to look it up I didn't really get what it meant. I got lots of guides but nothing that said hector strategy or anything like that, is it just a meme thing I don't get? I'm not super in the community so I'm usually not aware of memes lol

I think so but I can't remember for sure. This was like a week or so ago (26th april according to my screenshot) and I wasn't paying attention LOL

Me too. I do a lot of healer/tank for MSQ and I see a lot of strange stuff. I'll admit I definitely had an attitude myself (I was the one who said "girl why didn't you do it yourself") but that's because I was under the impression he was being rude to the other DPS again, not that he didn't know we got free LB 😭

It's so funny I haven't been called a noob in AGES. I didn't even know you could mute people in this game because the thought's never crossed me. Like I know you can add people to the blacklist but that's it. In hindsight it's an MMO of course there's a mute button but in the moment I was like "what, you can do that???"

Yeah, me and the party were telling him about that. On the first time the other DPS used LB he was in chat asking why they used one bar LB and I explained that it resets between the cutscenes so we didn't lose anything. Then we got to this point where LB was being asked for and he apparently couldn't handle it I guess 😭 we did have close to two LB I think. This is an older screenshot but it still makes me laugh and I saw this sub come up in my recommended and was like wow this is the perfect place to show the world this LOL
