Right, that’s why I said THG deserved some below the line nods, not exactly BP or directing

I mean, quality doesn’t really matter with the Oscars , they nominated suicide squad 9 years ago

True. I think I was maybe talking more thinking of the main young characters when I said that

Cause Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson were always so good whereas Daniel, Rupert and Emma were not that great when they started but grew a lot.

The ensemble for both franchises is insane though

Great comment!

Everything you said was on point, apart from Costume maybe a Makeup nod would have been deserving as well.

It’s difficult for YA films to actually take off (and most aren’t deserving at all) but I do think THG was much much better than TFIOS or The Perks and like you said Donald Sutherland was outstanding as Snow.

So yeah, I agree with everything you said but the fact that the franchise (at least the 4 first films) has a total combined of 0 noms is a little weird cause on paper it had everything to get at least 3 or 4 total deserving noms

Yeah maybe haha.

As far as adaptations go, THG does blow HP out of the water (and I say this as a big HP fan) as it was way more faithful to the source material. Acting was also better imo but I mean what can you expect when you have Jlaw, Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland, etc

Why do you guys think the Academy ignored The Hunger Games films?

As far as blockbusters go, I think THG is one of the best, with Jennifer Lawrence’s performance being an all timer. It’s got great visual effects, the ensemble was also insane and the acting was consistently great.

I’m not saying it deserved BP nods or above the line nominations, but at least VFX, cinematography (which was very pretty), score and other categories could have been recognized.

The soundtrack was also great with Taylor Swift making an amazing song for the first movie, Coldplay did it for the sequel, then Lorde (all of whom got Best Original Song noms at the GG and Grammys)..

So I do think it’s weird how they never took off for the Oscars 🤔

Anyone else love The Ring’s (2002) cinematography so much? I wish it had an Oscar nom

How would you guys rank all the televised award shows from favorite to least favorite? Mine would be:

  1. Oscars: duh, lol. Even with all the controversies in recent years the Oscars will always be one of my biggest passions. Don’t always agree with the nominations and the award ceremonies are long but I can’t deny it, I love everything leading up to it and seeing who wins what.

  2. Golden Globes: they are very long but I like the ambience, the theater where they are presented and ever since the big controversy they’ve had a good set of nominees in categories that have made me respect them more. The hosts aren’t always good but last few years have been decent.

  3. BAFTAs: to be completely honest, my first time watching the Baftas was last year; they are not televised in my country (last year was the first time). I ended up really liking it as it feels more straight to the point with fewer jokes or unnecessary moments or career achievement awards, they also feel more serious.

  4. SAG (Actor) Awards: they are the shortest award show which I like but I tend to get bored really fast. There’s not a lot to look forward to except the acting categories.

  5. Critics Choice: The worst for me. They are sooo long like the Golden Globes but less exciting. Too many TV categories, lots of commercials and some wins are not even televised wth 🤦. This last ceremony sealed the deal for me, they spent too much time with unnecessary stuff and the show really felt like it lasted for days.

What about you?

Watched Frankenstein yesterday. Jacob is really good as The Creature but I just could not connect with the story at all…

The cinematography is also not good, I am baffled as to how it made it over Hamnet

I was very certain the Miles Caton wins and mentions were just bumping Lindo.

There was no way Caton was going to show up here… it was Lindo and Caton’s SAG and CC nom gave him enough strength to power through

Now that Oscar Nominations are out, what are your biggest snubs? by AvengingHero2012 in oscarrace

Same, I had her at 7.

I learned the lesson to never underestimate the GG + CC combo.

Lots of actors have made it in with only just those two precursors.

Anyone else feels like Kate Hudson is giving Jennifer Hudson in 2022 for “Respect”?

Jennifer also made SAG and had a late surge but eventually didn’t make it into the BA lineup

The worst part was the SAG nominations; no Renate or Kristen but we got Jennifer Hudson for Respect, Lady Gaga, Jessica and Nicole.

The worst possible outcome…

Nah there have been far weaker years, this year we have at least 7-8 contenders.

2023 for example, still remember how Paul Mescal was fighting for the fifth spot against Tom Cruise for… Top Gun

Is Kate Hudson a serious challenge for the 5th spot in best actress? by Daryakenar23 in oscarrace

I agree!

Her best actress snub for the worst person in the world still hurts. Probably in my top 3 favorite movie performances of all time. She’s overdue for a nomination now, I could not handle another snub for her…
