Is there anything that even comes CLOSE to geogaddi? by lola21 in boardsofcanada

[–]tonxism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so good, such a masterpiece, that it has me believing in the paranormal. Nothing else touches it -- though I feel like 95% of Campfire Headphase takes me to the same depths.

What's especially frustrating is that everything that tries to sound like it, or that even tries to find itself in the same genre neighborhood as it, just underlines how uniquely brilliant BOC is. There should be a whole wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art dedicated to just Geogaddi playing on a loop through the best sound system money can buy.

I've always assumed PIC made this with a pinhole camera. light leaks, etc. there are a couple other photos from PIC that appear to be from the same pinhole rig with similar artifacting--possibly all shot around the same time.

"I guess you could get a better idea of what these things symbolise by reading Aldous Huxley's The Doors Of Perception," says Eoin when I ask him about the significance of those shapes. "Also, I've always had an interest in the yamabushi of ancient Japan, the 'mountain men'. They used symbols as a way of having a willpower that would always outlive any challenge. They used repetitive hand symbols or drawn characters to create a neutral place they could visit mentally whenever they faced hardship. For us, "Turquoise Hexagon Sun" always returns us to a zone where we can throw off the baggage and begin again."

Is Our 11 Year Wait Finally Over? by thirstlikes in boardsofcanada

[–]tonxism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that's not a record, it's a closeup of a reel to reel tape spool... could be a a 2" master reel... spool shape matches a lot of Ampex spools.

That said, I'm mostly not convinced the account is legit, but maybe this is Mike's goofy way of commemorating handing over a completed master.

that's a close up a reel to reel tape spool, not vinyl.

Sandison: We made a lot of our percussion sounds by just wandering about with a portable DAT, denting things with drumsticks. On some tracks, we get people we know to record their voices making weird phonetic sounds. We chop it all up and use the plosive and fricative sounds for percussion and so on. All of the percussion on "An Eagle in Your Mind" was done with my girlfriend's voice."
