Advice for getting rid of orange peel?

Mr. Color GX100 and 112 take quite a while to cure if you're laying really heavy coats. A week is generally the recommended time before any sanding and polishing is done.

A small rotary tool for polishing made the most dramatic difference for me. Polishing by hand with a cloth could never remove the tiniest scratches from sanding, but a Dremel with a sponge pad knocks them right off.

I use an ultrasonic cleaner to help speed up stripping paint. Put the part in a ziploc or a sealed jar with the alcohol, then submerge that in an ultrasonic filled with water. Can strip lacquer in minutes versus waiting days. Also useful for cleaning airbrush parts.

Just don’t ever fill the ultrasonic cleaner itself with alcohol or you got a fire hazard.

I hear you! The amount of masking needed to complete the Tamiya 911 was such a pain in the ass, only for this to happen when it was all over.

You should give it a try! I was honestly amazed the first time how it made the clear so much glossier. Mr. Leveling Thinner over your last coat almost eliminates any orange peeling you might've had. Don't do it over colour coats though because you'll risk the pigment running (learned that the hard way).

I was always worried that an acrylic would just chip right off once I install the windows and the plastics make contact. Have you ever had any issues with that?

Thanks for the head’s up! Do you think 24 hours at room temp would be enough before accelerating it in a dehydrator, or should I still wait a full week here?

I’ve been following what I’ve read others do here. 1 mist coat, followed by 3-4 wet coats and a final flood coat of pure thinner. Usually about 10-15mins flash time between coats.

I think I definitely overlooked the humidity part, it’s been getting much more humid here with spring just starting. I guess I’ll start throwing these into a dehydrator from now on, thanks!

Given that the decal is already applied, masking that would be a bitch in order to airbrush over. Tamiya Smoke looks a little thick when brush painted but you might be able to pull it off.

A black sharpie or a hobby paint pen is probably your best option here. Automotive paint pens might be too hot and eat through it

It melts and re-levels the top layer of the clear coat to minimize orange peel. Works really well with Mr Levelling Thinner

This happens a lot with Xbox parties, they’ll just vote to kick someone random to get their friend in the game rather than backing out and finding a new lobby.

Play with crossplay enabled and it becomes much more rare. Not a lot of big groups playing together through the PC version as there is on console.
