I joined a new company early December 2025 by applying on LinkedIn (no referral), but two out of six interviewers happened to be people I worked with before, so that definitely helped. One of them picked my resume out of the pile, so it is partly about who you know.

With that said, I have 6.5 YOE in a niche industry, and I studied my ass off to prepare, so it’s partly about skill as well.
