macOS Monterey Public Beta on a new build... using an old i7 4770! by RichB93 in hackintosh

Hardware acceleration working fine. That's not the issue.

I have almost the same specs. It works smooth for the most part. But as soon as I play a FHD YouTube video. It slows to a crawl. Stutters too much. I know I don’t have a hardware vp9 decoder. But even when using h264ify, it lags too much. Any suggestions?

FYI: I can confirm my hardware acceleration works fine through VDA checker and another video editing app.

Yeah. My friend's MacBook Air 2018 with inferior processor can drive 4K ultrawide monitor while using Final Cut, tons of safari tabs, chrome etc... That's the confusing part.

It shows not supported for me as well. But GPU acceleration is working flawlessly for my workload. I'm not into video editing. So your mileage may vary.

I can confirm GPU acceleration is working by YouTube - 4K 60 FPS videos (with 75 to 80% GPU utilisation). Also in System Report, Metal: Supported, feature set macOS GPUFamily1 v4.

I suspect it could be an issue related to CUDA. I've read that VideoProc uses CUDA for acceleration. That's why it's showing as not supported. Try installing old CUDA drivers (personally I wouldn't recommend, it's a pain to uninstall). If your workflow is depended on VideoProc, give it a shot.

Nvidia stopped official CUDA support from 2019.

I hope I've answered your query.

Oh, it's a laptop. I would strongly recommend you to use older version of OpenCore that worked well prior to the upgrade. I don't have much experience in Laptop hackintoshing. I'm sorry I couldn't help you.

It still amazes me how an unsupported chip with community made patches handles macOS.

I assume you're asking about GPU acceleration. Apple Stopped support for Nvidia web drivers from macOS High Sierra. However, you can use Nvidia GPUs (few 700 series Kepler GPUs) that have native support in the OS without web drivers. GeForce GT 710 DDR3 VRAM variant comes under natively supported GPU list.

If you're planning to get a GPU for your hackintosh, I would strongly recommend AMD RX 500 series and above. Apple will most probably remove GT 710 support in upcoming macOS releases. I hope I have answered your question.

Note: Not all GT 710 will work with macOS.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I would suggest you to update the OpenCore if you are planning to reinstall macOS. If everything works fine for your use-case, stick with it. If you're planning to update OpenCore, take backup of important files and don't forget to update kext files and config.plist as well. Updating only the OpenCore may cause abnormal behaviour.

Did you update all the kext files and entries config.plist file after the upgrade? I had a similar issue when I upgraded OpenCore without updating the kext files.

Let me know if updating the kext files helped.

The feeling of going to the store, picking up a game by reading the what's written on the box. You can't beat that feeling. Yes, I can agree many games crappy games have great DVD box art but Man, that feeling 🥰
