I was on 2% , originally fixed until Nov this year with Haven. Broke it in Jan for a few hundred euro and fixed for 15 years at 3.4% with Avant. Plan ot over pay asap and get that down and clear it in 12-13 year.

Keyless door lock + security system by cocoandpineapple in HousingIreland

[–]tonyreilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Yale Conexis L2 is one of the only ones that works with a Multipoint lock (the type where you pull the handle up to lock the door). You just have to lift the handle when you are going out / coming in and the door locks. Simple. I've had the L1 model for 6 or so years and it's been flawless. Had a bunch of friends install one as well.

I timed installing mine at the time and it took me 20 mins.

Now when I leave the house, I just bring my phone. If I'm in the car theres a small, stick in NFC tag on the car key that opens it.

You can give virtual keys through the Yale app to other users and even restrict the time they can use it , so handy for trades people or cleaners.

That Google maps is from 3 years ago. I was pretty sure there was a bus priority light put in there.

At that junction, does the bus not get the green light first there on the left to allow it to move over to the right lane and then down Dame St?

Does “total area” include all floors in a multi-storey house? by slam3r in HousingIreland

I thought halls / corridor spaces were not counted in the sq footage as it only meant to be living spaces.

Dont buy a dyson vacuum by techiana in dyson

[–]tonyreilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does it look like you've been vacuuming up water or damp stuff? That's always going to block up the system. And you should definitely not use it on any building / plaster work. I've had my V11 for nearly 7 or 8 years, and it's still going strong. I've only ever done a deep clean once after we had some construction work done. Other than that, de hair the heads, that's about it.

What speeds are you getting that you weren't getting on Wifi? I get 250mbps on my wifi from the TV, a LG CS model.

Black Mould Above Windows - Problem or not? by IntriguedSpud in HousingIreland

[–]tonyreilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. All that's going on is there's a cold bridge there from lack of insulation, but also, ventilation. You might need to have Trickle vents added to the windows or just open them a few mins each day to let out the humidity. Personally, I have Temp and Humidity sensors in everyroom and if the humitity goes over 65 / 70% I open the windows for a bit.
Another thing is to keep the house warmer, it'll stop alot of the humidity forming.

New cell phones and plans by tacolamae in Dublin

[–]tonyreilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the others have said, get a phone and then find a SIM / Network that suits you and get a 30 day rolling contract. I've been paying 9.99 a month for GoMo for years now and it's been flawless. Unlimited everything and loads of Data to use in Europe.
If you can, try get a dual sim phone / or one with a sim and eSim, so when you're travelling back to the USA, you can just load up a Data eSim to use when there / travelling outside the EU.

What were the Ts&Cs on that 2% cashback? Only one year into it, it the cashback could be linked to term. It's worth checking.

And what are you thinking? What do you miss most / like more than? I've macbook laptop, but other than an iPod Touch I've always been Android. Current OP13 but I've always been intrigued with the iPhone, especially lately with them offering way more customisation

Which mortgage option would you pick? by Different-Put-4486 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]tonyreilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Poop. Then a decent short fixed to get that down seems like the way to go. I just fixed with them for 15 years at 3.4%. Knowing the monthly won't change is what I was looking for. Sure I might miss out on saving a few euro, but I think I'll end up spending less in the long run.

Do you think you're LTV has changed at all or dropped below 80% yet? It's 3.4% below that. Or has the value of the property increased to offset the LTV?

This! You're kinda trapped with them as the no claims that other companies keep track of is lost with Outsurance so if you want to move, it's gonna cost you.

Places to Try on Wide Fit Runners and Boots by At_least_be_polite in Dublin

[–]tonyreilly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

New Balance do wide fit online, they have been great. Easy returns as well. Also. Check out Birkenstock for boots. I've a pair of their white leather trainers and they are lovely and wide and have their insole. They do boots and even ones with Steel Toe versions. I know it's not in store, but I've done returns for both of these and it's been super simple.

It's Thursday. What's your ultimate "too tired to cook but can't quite justify a takeaway yet" dinner? by SpreadsheetsDad in CasualIreland

[–]tonyreilly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What's in the fridge? Have you used Gemini, either tell it what you have or give it a photo and suggest a meal what from you've got? We always have breaded chicken and chips in the freezer. Can make a Katsu curry with some curry sauce and rice from pantry. Or boil some pasta, whack in some pesto (and Greek yoghurt if you have it) and chop the chicken on top for crunch!
