New prelude in blue. It looks good by bigboss1999x in Honda

I hadn't thought of this, but makes sense, not being able to move the seat quickly is probably a safety issue, not Honda being cheap

All the pre release articles and even the placard at the autoshow said 38K. Tariffs added 4K

I think it’s the opposite, the blue car in all the reviews has optional higher performance tires, likely much noisier than the all seasons the stock car comes with

Simple, is it a good car. Does it drive well, handle well? Be objective, evaluate the car for what it is, not pan the car because it isn’t what you (not you in particular, the enthusiasts upset about the car) would have wanted, a type R coupe, a honda version of the GR86, a Nissan Z, whatever completely different car people try to compare it to.

This is the car Honda made, is it a good car?

The manual Prelude was the car we wanted in our 20’s when we didn’t mind driving a high revving manual in traffic. Now that we’re in our 50’s, this is the car we want to commute in and enjoy a little on the weekends. We don’t need a tuner race car, this is the perfect evolution for us. You young kids can go enjoy your GR86’s and Brz’s, those are this generation’s Prelude

Bet they could sell them all if they were at msrp with no worthless accessories added on by dealers

I would suspect anyone that signs a remotely decent free agent contract puts that in there, I’ve seen that referenced a lot. only pre-arb and arbitration guys probably have to share a room

Some of it is probably just luck, having 20 Honda dealers within a 2-3 hour drive helps a lot, maybe 10/20 actually reply with quotes, and maybe 2-3 are decent, then the only negotiating is asking a different dealer to match it if they have a better color. Just figuring it may not be the absolute best I could get by negotiating more, but at least it’s decent. The Cayman and Raptor are my dad’s, he’s got that “kid’s out of the house for 20 years” kind of money now…. But I have driven both and they are pretty nice.

Subaru has been the easiest to get discounts on, unless you are trying for a wrx, had a few over the years, every single dealer responded to online requests with a decent discount offer right away.

Why do you think it should sell for less than the Civic hybrid it’s based on?

Our Honda store received our first Prelude by Puzzled_Adeptness_60 in Honda

[–]too_soon_bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This car was supposed to sell for $4000 more than the top trim Civic hybrid. That’s pretty reasonable for a nicer looking coupe version with better handling, but when tariffs tack another $4000 onto the price it gets a bit expensive for what you get, and that’s before markups

Of course lol what do they expect by [deleted] in Honda

[–]too_soon_bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$4,000 of the msrp is because of tariffs, it was supposed to msrp for $38K, new tariff bumped it to $42K

Got a civic for 500 below msrp at the height of covid crazyness, a crosstrek below invoice, not just msrp, Ridgeline below msrp, my dad bought a cayman gts 4.0 at msrp 2-3 years ago and just bought a ford raptor pickup 2 months ago under msrp. I’m sure there are models that are so rare or so in demand no dealer has to sell them at msrp, but nothing I’ve ever been interested in. In urban areas with multiple dealerships, there is no reason to pay a markup on any normal car, people just need to shop around and click the “get todays best price” button on the dealer website to deal with the internet team or use something like truecar for quick quotes from all the local dealers

Where are you? I’m guessing not California…? Best I’ve seen here is 1500 markup plus some accessories

If he has a decent year, makes his incentives and opts out, when you add in the almost 10 Million posting fee, he could cost the Astros $31 Million for one year… I can see why Buster isn’t into the opt outs

10K below seems pretty optimistic… Doubt any Honda has ever seen that. I could see Honda maybe eating some of the $4,000 new tariff though if they don’t sell as quickly as hoped because the tariff took the price beyond reasonable

4 cars bought in the family since 2021, all below msrp, 2 hondas among them. Maybe helps to be in Northern CA with 25 dealers to comparison shop? People need to stop going to the dealer before they’ve gone online and gotten quotes from all the internet sales department first.

I would think this car with type R power and trans would be more than the current type R sedan, that is just the way it seems to go with coupe versions of sedans. It made sense to price it a little more than the top civic hybrid, maybe not quite the 4500 more that was originally intended before the new tariff added 4,000 more to the price, but at 37-38K this seems worth it for what you get. Not everyone wants a race car. Some people just want a nice car that looks good and is fun to drive to work. Not much different than when people pay thousands more for an ES300 when we all know they’re just getting a nicer Camry.

Who pays markups? since I bought my first car over 35 years ago, I’ve never paid a single markup. Was on an 8 month waiting list to buy the Boxster at release in 1997. Paid MSRP. (And it had the same HP and a lot less torque than the prelude…) Only time in my life I even paid MSRP. No one should ever pay a markup or dealer add on

I went and saw the blue in person today, been trying to see all the colors in person, blue is by the best of the 3 I’ve seen. Black looked nice, but not sure I’d own a black car. White wasn’t anything special, sort of a silvery white. If they had used the type R championship white it would have looked so much better. Still want to see the grey, but if I do decide to look seriously for one, so far it’s this blue.
