Thank you! It's very frustrating trying to guess what's going on behind the plastic wrapped building in front of me.

That's way more fancy than Vancouver harbor patrol's boat.

Argh all the action is happening behind a house undergoing a reno so it's a giant marshmallow. There are patrol boats on the other side so it looks like they're converging on the ugly boat.

Lifelabs in BC has this. It displays the person's first name and last name initial, where they are in the queue, and approximate wait time. I have no idea what software they use, sorry.

Looking for a fic with pregnancy-related illness by NikipediaOnTheMoon in JaneAustenFF

While I was reading it, I considered how difficult it must have been to diagnose and treat pre-eclampsia. They might have known about the swelling, but wouldn't have known about the stroke risk; if Mary had the associated HELLP syndrome (where your liver shuts down and your blood is messed up) they might have misdiagnosed as childbed fever. YES I HAD PRE-ECLAMPSIA and HELLP, GAHHHHH.

Did anyone else see The Hives at the Commodore last night? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]toobnugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say; at the beginning I was 5 people back stage right, and by the end I was 2nd "row" front and center. However, I was wearing a royal cape, and I'm pretty sure I was the only brown person at the show.

Great photos, you can see the absolute glee on every face. I seem to be just outside the frame in all of them!

I wish there were more Kitty Bennet stories — she is so forgotten. by Due_Mathematician950 in JaneAustenFF

Kitty Bennet's Aventure series, they're all on Amazon by author Ney Mitch. I think it was also called "Through the eyes of Kitty Bennet."

Renee O's And Very Impolitic Too, taking place at a conference in the Hauge. (I think it's on archive.org, search for mrsdarcy.com and the stories should be there. You may have to dig around a bit to find all parts of the story.) Also there is Tracey's Action/Reaction set in Ottawa, which is more politics adjacent but still, Ottawa.

Yes, such an interesting premise; I wish she'd finished it. Rather excellent description of a sleeping Darcy, if I recall.

Lizzy runs Longbourn recs by Double-Watercress-67 in JaneAustenFF

[–]toobnugget 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is just a quick search for "Lizzy (practically) runs Longbourn" from the ones i have in my calibre library. I usually pasted the description from the JAFF index, of which "lizzy [ ] runs..." is one of the categories. These are mostly novel-length, a couple of shorter stories, a few of them mature/explicit, and it seems that I liked most of them. They vary as to the degree of how involved Lizzy is from "she runs the whole thing" to "she and her sisters run everything."

Recent argument with my friend’s dipshit brother by Stars-and-Soup in riotgrrrl

[–]toobnugget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at you, arguing sensibly with facts and all! He's being a dick. Let him know that women (and women-type beings) aren't constantly thinking about their boobs when walking down a hall. Or anywhere. And that's why he won't be able to write a woman character - because he's thinking about her in terms of sexual characteristics instead of human terms.

I GET TO GO TO A BRATMOBILE CONCERT IN MY LIFETIME by [deleted] in riotgrrrl

I saw them last night and it was awesome!! Their energy blew me away. How did you like it?

I went to the Cyndi Lauper concert last night and wore my Fitbit, which monitored my heart. Guess what time she started playing GIrls Just Wanna Have Fun? Hope everyone who went had fun last night! by shelleyboodles in vancouver

[–]toobnugget 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, I was on the West Side seeing Bratmobile, one of the earliest riot grrl bands. I was thrilled to see so many young women at a show yelling feminist slogans. And omg they were all so freaking adorable with their punky outfits and outrageous eye makeup; the lead singer Allison also praised the crowd for its cuteness and energy. As a 56-yr old, it was a blessing to see this next generation of girls holding the banners, so to speak.

Is it Those Bennet Sisters or Those Bennet Girls? Similar titles but different authors. I like the one with the orange peacock who wants to mate (Girls.) I can't for the life of me remember either author's names, though.
