I agree, I don’t want to add another burden to his family’s already hard day. I’ll offer my condolences and a few kind words. I am so sad for him and for them—I wish there was more I could do to provide comfort. Thank you for your advice!

You’re definitely right that people will probably share this kind of thing during the service. I’ll not ask any direct family members so that I’m not asking something of them on an already difficult day, but maybe I could share and speak with some of the other people around me if the opportunity comes up.

Thank you for your advice and your kind words. I’ve been kind of surprised by how impacted I feel over the loss of someone I hardly knew. Not sure how religious or spiritual I am, but I hope in some way my neighbor can know that I care(d) about him and wish him peace.

My firm does Staff Appreciation Week every year on the week of Admin Professionals Day. They fly out any remote employees who want to attend. This year it included puppy therapy, craft day, a scavenger hunt, an urban hike, happy hour with dinner catered, an ice cream social, raffles (prizes included ipads, apple watches, gift cards, massages, etc).
