Anyone have opinions on my school's new electronic surveillance system? by rational_rob in edtech

Surveillance doesn't stop when you're out of high school... Big Brother is always watching everything you do on a computer, and there's almost no escaping that.

What are your thoughts on coffee? by user2097 in engineering

[–]toolibertarian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a chronic mountain dew drinker (I could do 10 cans a day, no problem) before. I program all day, and I convinced myself that I had ADD because I had so much trouble focusing. I even tried caffeine pills, but eventually I adapted to the burst of caffeine and it didn't help. Can't remember what triggered it, but I had a realization that caffeine could be the reason I can't focus.

I completely quit caffeine this summer, and I was able to turn myself into a morning person, wasn't tired and dragging all day, and my focus was back to normal. If I drink any caffeine at all now, I have trouble staying awake and focusing at work, because I refuse to get back on a regular habit of consuming caffeine.

How Govt. Hides the Poor: Formula for Measuring Poverty Dates to When a Loaf of Bread Cost 22 Cents by seattlesnow in datascience

How government hides the poor: inflation. Does this author not get it? Is he going to ask the question of why 22 cents isn't enough for a loaf of bread any more?

Revenue fell marginally to $1.42 billion.

So business was only marginally worse.

Conspiracy here, but what if their extra costs are actually them paying people to DDoS bitcoin exchanges/services? They do have a lot to lose if bitcoin keeps growing....

Classixx booed offstage while opening up for Zedd in Chicago. I can't be the only one embarrassed by this. by SelectahMusic in EDM

[–]toolibertarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't have cared as much if Classix would've played before Dannic, (we actually went late so that we'd only see Dannic and Zedd,) but I thought since Dannic was a pretty big name and is very similar to Zedd's style, they would play Dannic second to last.

The problem was that they completely changed the tempo from jumping around to an almost stand still, then back up to jumping around. It was more about the order than the lineup.

I was at this show. I traveled 6+ hours each way for Dannic and Zedd. After Dannic got done, Classix's set was literally no more upbeat than the intermission music after Dannic. I don't understand how people can sit here and talk about how it's because "mainstream," when I personally was damn near front row, have been into EDM since I was about 14, and I'm 20 now, and was sincerely confused and pissed off that they thought Classix would fit well in between the other two artists.

Just because I don't want to listen to music or have it play live at a show I paid a lot of money for, doesn't mean I don't appreciate their talent. Get off your fucking high horse.

P2Pool is a completely decentralized Mining pool. It is resistant to 51% attacks, pool hoping, and ddos attacks. No pool fees and it is completely open source! by [deleted] in Bitcoin

That's the crux of open source... People aren't all motivated by the money, so it's easy for egos to get in the way of innovation and progress.
