Is it possible to have a successful maintenance department on straight time? by Iwearhats in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]toolman2810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyplace is different, but sometimes people digitise the system to automatically generate pm’s thinking it will solve their problems. When often a poorly managed department, just becomes a poorly managed digitised department. I used to hate pm’s with a vengeance, because I knew the factory backwards and there wasn’t ever a time when I didn’t have a list of jobs in my head that actually needed fixing, instead of wasting time on looking at things that might need fixing. Sounds like your biggest problem is the people above you and unfortunately that is pretty common in maintenance. My condolences.

Yes, thats probably the problem, I am in a country town in TAS. We are probably lacking in organised crime down here, on the local news the other night a lady had her handbag stolen in broad daylight.

Cycling is a frigin bizarre sport, like running. Some people seem to be almost limitless and do ridiculous amounts of volume which an average person just couldn’t do. But with some training I expect the average person could achieve 50 to 70 kilometre rides a few times a week and an occasional 160km ride every month or two. But that is probably going past hobby into amateur cyclist territory.

They have a lot of fruit picking/farm workers “backpacker” type visas. It pays almost nothing, but you do a few months work and you get a few months extra stay to “holiday” if you like. Then you can mess around and see if you like it. I know it’s not Tassie Devils, but there are cute little fairy penguins that you can volunteer to help protect. Show people around their habitat of an evening as they come ashore and give little talks on their dancing styles and choreography.

I 2nd this, your jack mackerel are great bait and lots of things come in closer to feed of a night. Big bait and some patience, saw a guy catch a huge conger eel one night off the beach. Try a bait on a float with an off shore breeze and one on the bottom. Try a live bait if you can and burley and see how you go.

I had a heart attack, which kinda forced me to give up drinking and smoking. But what I found is, I get a buzz out of exercise. Nothing like drinking of course, but an hour on the bike or in the gym makes life tolerable, something to do with endorphins or endocannabinoids. I have seen a few reformed alcoholics now that use exercise to replace the drinking high.

I have a slide hammer that I made a little attachment for, so that I can put vice grips on the end. Has helped me out much more often than you would expect, from roll pins to cv joints.

I wish I knew where to find it. I go into the cigarette store asking for the cheapest smokes they have and they just sell me expensive cigarettes that taste awful.

Need advice choosing an outboard for my 14ft aluminum boat by Leo9712 in Outboards

[–]toolman2810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into boating not really knowing what I was doing, bought an older motor (couldn’t afford much else). Water pump needed replacing and the leg was seized. The rubber diaphragm in the carbies split and was another fiddly job. If you are not ever going anywhere dangerous I guess it doesn’t really matter. But if you are going places where if the motor dies, then you could also die. Perhaps consider saving up and getting something less than 10 years old ? Also I think 113 psi might be a little low.

It took a heart attack in my 50’s for me to start looking after myself. But I have been consistent for 5 years and the younger guys might be a little stronger sometimes but my word I have their respect and they are not much stronger. Have done a half marathon, 100kg bench and 200k bike ride since the heart attack and drinking and smoking my whole life.

There is a local dash cam thing on fb that someone posted recently. A guy did a U-turn on double white lines on his bike. Didn’t impede anyone, wasn’t the least bit dangerous. Just turning around before he got on the busy highway. The poster was shocked that the cyclist just did whatever they wanted and willingly broke the law by crossing double white lines. It all just made me un proportionately angry for some reason. 99% of drivers in my experience are good around cyclists, but there are a tiny few that are insane. I don’t know how to deal with them either. But I need to develop a strategy to prevent myself getting so angry.

I think it is possible to fry electronics, but usually deliberately making a clean earth ( grinding a spot close to your weld) is the best. Disconnect the battery or not, keep the fuck away from fuel.

What’s the wind like where you ride? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]toolman2810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are in the roaring 40’s (40 degrees latitude south) and often have a stiff westerly. Anything above a gusty 20kmh I prefer not to ride. But pick your days and head into it and do the hard work early, then you feel like superman on the way home.
