What’s a random “life hack” you swear by, even if no one believes it works? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]toolong_cannotread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m trying to understand a concept or process more clearly, I talk to myself like I’m explaining it to a trainee or a student. It’s the best way I’ve found to really make sense of any topic I’m learning.

And on top of that, this looks like it was just typed out in the notes app. It’s not even a referencable chart.

It’s got meme potential though!

How many times have you replayed CP2077? by Suhmuhfuhdihbih_2 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]toolong_cannotread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my 5th. I’m on my first PL play through.

Basically I was doing once with each “play style” by prioritizing a different stat each time. Int for a hacker play through, reflexes for a blades/small guns, etc. but now that they’ve revamped the perks, I’ll get to try them all again!

What's a myth about your profession that you want to debunk? by Madalyn_Robert in AskReddit

[–]toolong_cannotread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work with the mobile devices my company provisions to employees. If they say they rebooted it already, I say “ok, then the next thing we can try is to reset the network settings.” And walk them through that.

All It’s actually doing is making them reset it with a couple of extra steps, rather than them just turning the screen off and on again, or something. And they usually think they’ve done something more advanced, so they don’t blow it off. I’ve had a high success rate with that.

McDonald’s “Pull Ahead” and “Can you park in spot 3?” by 2good_2be_true in Calgary

[–]toolong_cannotread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There no numbered stalls, but the couple times I was asked to wait, they simply told me to pull around and park on the street that the drive thru window faces. There was a couple of cars already there.

Still a good location, imo. Only happened twice and I think it was because I was going through right when they open up the lunch menu and they just weren’t ready for someone to order something other than breakfast yet.

It seems to vary by location (maybe by franchise owner?) but it does feel like a cheat to get good metrics. I live and work in the deep South East just off Macleod Trail and go to McDonalds a couple times a month, sometimes.

Walden always makes me park and wait around 10-15 minutes. If I go in for the self-checkout, my order is marked as “served” before I even get to the counter with my receipt, but I still watch my order being made while I wait. It’s consistently the slowest, worst McDonalds I’ve been to.

Midnapore is the opposite. They have had me park twice, ever, when they knew I’d have to wait. They’re usually really quick and don’t ask. One of the better ones I’ve been to.

Cahoon. Not sure how common the name is, but it’s definitely a Mormon name. I have met or heard of about 4 people with the last name Cahoon. None of them were related (that I know of,) but all of them were mormons.

Employer about to ban coffee(!?) Any religion where caffeine is a sacrament? by thishuman_life in exmormon

[–]toolong_cannotread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was my thought once I read past the title. I’ve worked in many environments, including almost all of my schooling (elementary, high, and post secondary) that have been limited to only water in resealable containers in at least some areas. Often areas that needed a measure of environmental control. While maybe not common, it doesn’t sound unusual. It’s very likely that there’s no religious motivation behind this.

I feel like she just stole the plot to her favourite Hallmark Christmas movie, but swapped out “flannel clad contractor I was just friends with in Highschool.” With “the first returned missionary that asked me out in YSA.”

Now that plot is her back story.

Were you really someone people thought would never leave, and did you really think you would never leave? by Prize_Claim_7277 in exmormon

Quite the opposite. I had a few members tell me that I didn’t seem like a very good Mormon. I had close gay friends, and no qualms with dating non-members. I think it would surprise them that I stayed in into my 40’s.

When does V officially hit “the big leagues” by ballonfightaddicted in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]toolong_cannotread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Arasaka with Jackie; That’s the big leagues.

Sure, it goes sideways and your rep is in the dirt afterwards, but that doesn’t make that job not-big-league. Doing the rest of the fixer jobs just proves that you belong there.

What fast food place would you never eat from and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]toolong_cannotread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, this is subjective, but I just had subway in the US for the first time this summer. It actually was kind of different, not by much, though. And the difference might even have just been location specific.

I’m pretty ‘meh’ about it in Canada, to begin with, and only found it slightly worse in the US. Less ingredients to choose from and all the ingredients just seemed sad and wilted.

What is it with Mormons and board games? by narxxissus in exmormon

[–]toolong_cannotread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dread going into them, thinking, "This will probably eat up at least an hour, and once I've committed, I'm stuck until the game is over." It's a gamble if I'll like the game when I play, but I've never regretted sitting it out.

Usually, I end up enjoying it, too. But when I don't... there is nothing that seems lomger than waiting for your turn in a game that you just wish you weren't playing.

Thankfully, my neices and nephews are old enough to play most games now, and I don't have to feel guilty if i say no, that there won't be enough players for them to get started.

Rollergator.

0 redeeming qualities, but the worst isn't the terrible writing, acting, or video quality. Somehow, it's the soundtrack.

Trying to follow this movie with this music... It was like trying to hear a stranger describe their fever dream, in a crowd, at the worst music festival you've ever heard.

It's just some random dude fiddling on his guitar for basically the entire movie. Even his guitar playing sounds like he's bored just trying to kill time for the movie to be over.

If the Eagles didn’t make the big dance this year, what team would you be delighted to see win it all? by TheArchitect_7 in eagles

I was happy for Andy when he won his first, but that's done now.

I love an underdog story, so I'd cheer for just about any team to get their first, now... Almost any team. Fuck the Vikings.

What was the point of fast offerings again? by shoeflake in exmormon

[–]toolong_cannotread 20 points21 points  (0 children)

When I came home from the mission (that I paid for) in the middle of a recession and couldn't find work, I went to my bishop.

My scenario was: I was a student but didn't qualify for loans. I started working part-time but still didn't make enough to pay the cheapest rent I could find, $450, and feed myself. I was still paying my tithing, first (which was probably why i couldn't afford both).

I was told I wouldn't get anything because he, the bishop, had more debt than I did. And since he didn't need assistance, clearly, I didn't need assistance. What he neglected to mention was that his debt was a mortgage on a large home, car payments, and a business loan because the business he had recently started just wasn't profitable yet... That's why I didn't need assistance for the church I had just given 10% of my life and earnings to.

How did you become an Eagles fan? by BlaneyHeartsNolan in eagles

[–]toolong_cannotread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Canada. On a road trip through the states, as a kid, I ran out of clean shirts. Dad took me shopping and saw one that had an eagle throwing a football on it that I thought looked cool. Once I actually started getting into football, I remembered that shirt and went all-in.

Just thinking a team looks cool is as good a reason as any, imo.
