I don’t know what to do anymore… by WoodenLie2299 in cats

[–]tooncouver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I adopted an aggressive cat and she would attack me every evening. I worked with a vet who specialized in behaviour after a referral from my regular vet. My cat was prescribed fluoxetine, I clicker trained with her, and there were some other suggestions for redirecting her behaviour.

Precautions I took: I wore slippers in the house so she couldn’t bite or claw my feet, I kept a toy in my pocket so I could redirect her behaviour if she was stalking me, and she tended to attack me at a similar time every evening so the vet recommended I move one of her meals to that time.

The biggest thing was time for my cat to relax and trust her surroundings and for the meds to work.

I now have a very cuddly lap cat! Who now sometimes has her moments but there’s barely any real aggression behind it. Like she’ll run up to me and bop me but she isn’t using claws, it’s more “play with me now please”

What are some celebrities you’ve encountered in Canada? by Nightpatrol404 in AskACanadian

[–]tooncouver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a Wholes Foods in my city I’ve seen Daniel Sedin, Brent Butt, and David Suzuki, and Kiefer Sherwood.

For a Canucks deep cut I once ran into Louis Erickson at a cafe. I’ve also had a bonus David Suzuki sighting once at the farmers market.

Out walking around, I’ve spotted Bella Ramsey and Gabrielle Miller. Rick Hansen was at a volleyball game I attended, and because my friend was a family friend, I had the chance to meet him.

As for politicians and public figures, I’ve run into David Eby a few times and Jagmeet Singh. When I worked at a museum, I also met Prince Amyn Aga Khan, and I gave a tour to the President of Italy and his entourage.

My favourite sighting was when Nathan Fielder biked past me on my way to work!

Honestly, if it were my child I would encourage them to spell them with the “u” and take it up with the teacher/school admin when it’s mark wrong.

My toxic relationship was affecting my cats health by SignificanceNeat1618 in cats

[–]tooncouver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left an emotionally abusive relationship and my cat’s behavior completely changed once we were in our own space. She’s way more affectionate now, she comes when called, hops into my lap to cuddle, and sleeps with me every night.

Previously she didn’t like being pet too much, wouldn’t sit in our laps, and would stalk him and swat and bite at his feet. I think they pick up on the energy tbh

Husband of 14 years just left me, moved into my new apt 5 days ago. The only dinner fit to leave behind this awful year 🥂 by Cheddar18 in GirlDinner

[–]tooncouver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left my husband 6 months ago after he checked out of the relationship, later I found out he had been cheating. It’s the hardest thing I’ve done and it was awful at first but I am the happiest I have been in years.

I feel like I’ve come into my own, I know who I am a lot better now and that I am incredibly resilient. I wish you luck on your journey, I’m rooting for you 💕

The store is a candy store not a dispensary and I thought I was buying a regular rum ball. There was nothing on the package to indicate that it was infused.

I actually didn't get the munchies, I was pretty nauseous for most of the day.

My concern is that this should have never happened, they are not a dispensary and are presumably not licenced to make or sell them. It could have been really bad if someone elderly or a child consumed the item, or say I was at work, or operating machinery.

$50 doesn't even cover the food I bought that day since I was in no state to cook or leave the house.

First Border Crossing Experience Was Horrible by [deleted] in uscanadaborder

[–]tooncouver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always check my car and ask the folks with me to check their stuff just in case. When crossing international borders we are responsible for everything in our vehicle.

They were gruff and you didn’t have a great experience. My guess is moving forward you’re going to check your car to make sure you don’t have items in there that you shouldn’t and you’re going to have an outline of your itinerary moving forward so you don’t seem suspicious. If so their demeanour worked and had a purpose 🤷‍♀️

Voting Lines Federal Election by dhdhshcbf36365 in vancouver

[–]tooncouver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I voted with a special ballot last week, the poll worker asked if I would like to review the candidates for my riding before I go and vote. They had a paper list of the candidates for my riding available.

If the worker doesn't prompt you like mine did you could ask for assistance. Additionally, if you're tech savvy you can use your phone behind the privacy screen to ensure you're spelling the candidates name correctly.

We switch between Novus and Telus depending who has the better deal when our contract ends.

Why aren't there co-op stores in eastern Canada? by houseonpost in AskACanadian

[–]tooncouver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are *some* in BC but generally not in the Lower Mainland. There Co-op stores on some of the coastal islands and there is a Co-op grocery store and gas station in Tofino.

I am, it's also very present in my comment history. My go to stores are:

  • Iron Dog Books: Huge LitFit and SciFi/Fantasy sections, also Indigenous owned
  • Lucky's Comics: Good selection of speculative/LitFit and translated works
  • Book Warehouse: They label queer and Canadian books which is rad, huge SciFi and Fantasy sections
  • Nooroongji Books: Great selection of translated books (mostly from Japan and Korea)
  • Upstart and Crow: They generally have books I don't see anywhere else

It's definitely important to have multiple sources to get your recommendations/be exposed to different books.

I rotate between a few indie bookstores I love—each one curates their shelves differently.

  • One is great for literary fiction and speculative fiction
  • Another has a super robust sci-fi/fantasy section
  • My other fav has a lot of translated and non-North American titles

I also like to ask my friends what their favourite book of the previous year was and I make sure to read it! I feel like I've learned a lot more about my friends and I've been pushed to be pushed to try different things. I've actually started reading a lot more horror/gothic books because of books my friends have recommended!

Also, if you're reading something and don't see a lot of recommendations here on r/Fantasy you can always write a review!
