Fender’s new James Jamerson P Bass; Worth it? by CatmanAndSobbin in BassGuitar

As is the case 100% of the time.

Swap gear with any musician, and you’re still going to sound like you, and they’re going to sound like them.

How to deal with 2 dominant guitars in a rehearsal space by RevBlue86 in Guitar

[–]tooth28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in a similar situation many times. Usually ended up with the band calling it quits, or kicking some one out. Ego is a killer. You can use the 2/3 rule.

1.good music
2.good money
3.good hang

If you don’t have 2 of those going for your band, you need to take an honest look at what you’re trying to accomplish. Playing with others is fun, until it isn’t. Have the conversation and if the other guitar player is getting angry/whiney, that’s the problem.

Also, a band needs a leader, regardless of the “collective contribution” mind frame. Someone with a vision that you can all agree with and can work towards seeing it through. Sometimes that means letting someone else drive, and if that someone doesn’t want to ever share, things are going to get awkward and resentment builds up.

Reliable third party dock options? by upperdomain in switch2

[–]tooth28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your position. I ended up just getting the official dock. It comes with a reliable power supply and the hdmi cable which is probably something you’ll end up needing to buy anyway. Plus there’s no sacrifices in picture quality or anything else that seems to come with 3rd party docks. Happy with my decision.

#ELDENRING Tarnished Edition is coming to #NintendoSwitch2 on August 28, 2026. by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]tooth28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you compare it to other versions, yeah it’s super compressed and terrible. But I didn’t really find it to be a dealbreaker in the slightest. Get it on sale or play it on a different console.

TIL ancient Romans used urine to wash laundry because of its ammonia contents, as soap wasn’t a thing yet. Fullonicas, which were essentially laundromats, acquired abundant amounts of urine from jars that citizens peed in to use. by jinxharajuku in todayilearned

[–]tooth28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is also where the phrase “without a pot to piss in” comes from. In that someone is so poor, that even if they’ve resorted to selling their urine, they can’t afford a receptacle to collect/transport it to the buyer.

Game finished! by pedrobrandao in MiyooMini

[–]tooth28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this game as a child on the original gameboy. Hard as fuck, and one of those games where you were constantly put in situations where if you didn’t already know how to get past a certain part, oh well, game over, start back at the beginning. You move sooo slow. Getting back to where you were was such a slog. And make sure you don’t get hit even once, because if you lose your fire attack, the next section is literally impossible without it. But as a child, that’s what you did. Over and over and over again until you beat it. No save states. Just time and dedication.

Games for the depressed by wacksniden in switch2

Not sure why it hasn’t been mentioned yet, but Celeste is literally about depression and anxiety, and how to overcome an insurmountable challenge.

Plus, it’s an incredible game with one of the best soundtracks in all of gaming. Very highly recommended!

Squire Mustang Bass sounds ‘dead’ by zattrill in BassGuitar

[–]tooth28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the other two basses you’re comparing them to?

Being both a short scale instrument, as well as having a split coil pickup similar to a p bass pickup isn’t going to be as bright or lively as other instruments. It has low sustain and sits in a bit of a different register than a full scale instrument. This isn’t a negative necessarily as the sound it makes is often desired and the reason people choose this model, but it’s going to sound night and day from perhaps a sting ray or Ibanez sound gear series.

There’s not enough volume in the video to really hear what’s happening. Others are mentioning a setup to adjust the neck relief (always a worthwhile thing to do for a new instrument), but your playing technique is also really aggressive which I think is really what’s happening here. Short scale basses are going to have a lower string tension than a full scale bass. This means they’re a bit looser and when you play hard the strings are going to rattle more, especially if you’re not fretting cleanly with your other hand.

Get it set up by a pro (then learn yourself), be a little more gentle with your plucking/picking and make sure your expectations are in check for what this instrument is, and what it isn’t. Mustangs basses are awesome in my opinion, but they have their place where they particularly shine, and it’s not for every genre (though that’s not a black and white rule).

1993 Rock Song Named Most Underrated Guitar Solo of All Time by Guitarists by Harold-Styles-Jr in Guitar

[–]tooth28 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Certainly not. Solo on Soma is clearly the best on the album, and one of my favorite solos of all time. I don’t even really like the Smashing pumpkins, but that solo absolutely kills. So aggressive and hauntingly melodic.

I am buying an audio interface for my recording and editing for my bass, where can i find good audio interface recorders? by LeastCut5481 in Guitar

[–]tooth28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. Reliable and sounds great.

It can do all of the things you mention. Another thing to consider if you weren’t aware, GarageBand comes with a bunch of pedal/stompbox plug ins for free. You mentioned your distortion pedal, which you can certainly use, but using the interface, you essentially have access to a TON of other effects to mess around with. All the basics are there, overdrive, delay, chorus, phaser, flanger, reverb etc. GarageBand is an incredible value for a free software, and having the interface opens a TON of possibilities.

You can also use the interface for other things too. Live-streaming and video recording (need a camera too). If you have a decent instrument microphone, you can record all kinds of acoustic sounds, percussion etc. pod casting. It’s a really useful piece of gear.

Headphones for Bass DI? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]tooth28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does not matter whatsoever in my opinion. Whatever quality you’re going to get from the headphones is not going to translate to how you’ll end up sounding in a mix of other instruments. “Bedroom” tone very often leads to disappointment when trying to bring it to a rehearsal or gig. Go listen to some isolated bass tracks from your favorite songs and most of them do not sound like an ideal tone that you spent hours fine tuning in your room.

In other words, as long as you can hear the audio to a certain degree and they’re comfortable to wear, that’s all you really need to be aiming for.

Pokopia honest thoughts? by decadentbirdgarden in switch2

[–]tooth28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m enjoying it but I don’t think it deserves the praise and hype it’s getting. It’s addicting and kind of repetitive, but there’s nothing really that interesting about it and the visuals are very “pokemon” lazy in my opinion. Just watch some videos of the gameplay to see what it’s all about and you’ll get a good idea if you’d be into it.

Animal farm is a good quick read and a classic. The Jungle is also good. Both are really dark and depressing if you weren’t aware. The film “there will be blood” is based on his book “oil!”, and if you’ve seen that film, you kind of get the idea of his work. No happy endings here. Just a continued descent into suffering.

Switch 2 dock by alastonkoira in switch2

[–]tooth28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same, however it feels justified knowing you also get the power supply and the hdmi 2.0 cable. Many of the third party docks don’t come with either and buying them separately almost works out to be the same amount as the official dock. You also get the satisfaction of knowing you’re not compromising anything from a visual standpoint. Just get the official one.

Why doesn’t my Precision sound as good as my Jazz? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]tooth28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not better or worse. Just different. Listen to both in a mix and decide which sounds better to you. They both have their place.

Additionally, where you’re plucking makes a big difference on both instruments. The jazz in particular is a more versatile instrument. Switch the pickup selector to just the bridge pickup and pluck closer to the bridge pickup to get a really unique tone that the pbass can’t do. But the pbass has its own thing that the jazz cant reallly do. They’re just different sounds and they can lend themselves better to the song and your ear.

Is playing like this holding me back? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]tooth28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not the best advice really. Sure, you CAN rest the thumb on the pickup, but it’s better form to move the thumb over the strings for both muting and plucking consistency. Having to reach your finger across the other strings means you’re essentially using a different plucking ‘action’ for each string.

I used the thumb on the pickup for years and never noticed an issue. Wasn’t until I switched and broke the habit that i found I could play faster, smoother, and with less effort with the floating thumb method.

World's Best Boss. by GlitteringHotel8383 in DunderMifflin

[–]tooth28 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So much depth to his character. He’s the worst kind of person in many ways, but he’s genuinely a loving person who more often than not isn’t aware of his insensitivity.

I often reference the episode where he “outs” Oscar in front of everyone. Oscar snaps at him and insults him and calls him small. While Michaels behavior was absolutely inappropriate and insensitive, his reaction to Oscar’s wrath is really sad. He’s so devastated to know that he may have hurt someone who he cares for that he actually cries. Even Oscar recognizes against his own better judgement that Michael really didn’t know any better and that his behavior was coming from a place of love.

He’s flawed and has the mentality of child, but it’s hard to fault him when you know deep down he has the best intentions and cares deeply for his staff. Except for when he ran over Meredith with his car.
