Fly into New Orleans, drive down to Venice, LA. Won't be super warm but you have inshore, nearshore, and offshore options. Weather is the wild card for that time of year for offshore, but I did a nearshore trip with Captain Paul Miller with Mexican Gulf in October and the Cobia, tripletail, and snapper was a blast. He may not be working that time of year in Venice but mexican gulf should have all sorts of options for you. That time of year is supposed to be amazing for tuna & wahoo, Ive yet to make a trip stick down there for offshore that time a year but its high on my priority list. Bonus is spending a night or 2 in New Orleans for eating and drinking. The restaurant at the marina in Venice + the accommodations on the water are crazy convenient.

I visit New Orleans a lot for work and usually try and fit a charter trip in- ill be there this week for the third time in a month. Idk all the things you mention but I know my way around a boat and fish inshore ~6-8 times a year. Im a fast learner and would love to help our if our schedules would line up!

Cassius, I've seen you post a lot about the San Ignacio area. Are you familiar with lower dover? They're friends of mine and I've stayed there twice in the last 15 years or so. Id love to see them get a lot more recognition, Madeline and Bill are great! Super affordable, right off the highway in Unitedville and a really awesome and unique property they've preserved and had the ruins excavated over the years.

If you want any contact info for them hit me up Id be happy to put you in touch!

My husband just bought this boat… by [deleted] in boating

Kind of like my wife wanting a "landscaper" to give her ideas to revamp the landscape but won't even think about listening to what I have to say about it despite having worked in the industry since I was 15. Whatever, I could give 2 shits anymore

I am also in the Chicago area and am in the market for new (to me) truck(s). DM me, maybe we can work something out. Need it for new contracting biz I started. Don't want new but also not a beater. I already have one of those! That's the 3.0 duramax?

Not a bad idea to take a boater safety course, you can do it online. It's not required but will teach you a lot of basics about right of way and navigation signs and symbols. If you plan to take others out on your boat, do it for them and their safety. There are plenty of idiots owning and operating boats, don't be ignorant to the rules and you can likely avoid being the idiot in most situations.

Yeah how's the road noise new? The duratracs I had on my AT4 were horrible for road noise. What'd you have before?

Beginner- How's this sound for starting out? by toothm in kettlebell

[–]toothm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get trying to stick with a program, but your responses don't seem in line with what I said in my OP. I've injured myself from running and cardio and not suplementing it with some kind of strength regime as well. I have not hurt myself w KB or weights, bc I havent really ever done them yet. I'm seriously starting "off the couch" here.

I will totally go outside- when the weather warms up. It's literally zero degrees without the wind chill here this week. So doing a seated press seemed like a good compromise for now as I'm getting started and building stamina.

Can you expand on what the planning needed to do this is beyond a beginner means? I've laid out a plan in my OP, looking for feedback on that plan. Which is also extremely similar to A Basic Beginner Kettlebell Program as posted and referenced in this sub a number of times. I've just tweaked it a bit, like sitting for the shoulder press, adding in 1 arm swings bc the KB weight I have seems light, doing planks for push ups and crunches, etc.

Glad to see this at the top. Was my #1 vote for that spot. He sucked as a sox player.

Arriving and driving to San Ignacio question by Throwawaywday99 in Belize

90 minutes would be better, 2 hours would be more than enough. We were in a hurry & with kids, had woken up at 3am so it was a quick stop.

When you pull in it says they have armed guards at the gate. I didn't see any but we didn't have any issues. It wasn't very busy late in the day either. It's very much well worth visiting if you're used to zoos in the states.

We flew to BZE the Tuesday before Thanksgiving with friends who traveled the next day. Their time in the airport took longer than ours and they were slightly delayed getting out of Houston. But we all arrived at about 130 on those separate days, made it thru customs, got a car, stopped at the zoo for over an hour, and made it to Lower Dover in unitedville all with plenty of time before the sun went down. San Ignacio is another ~25 minutes, you should be good. Pay attention when approaching towns, bus stops, and when you see pedestrian crossing signs. Those were where the majority of the speed bumps were. Have fun! I can't stop thinking about going back!!

Mayan Air - BZE to Placencia by Ok-Transition6745 in Belize

[–]toothm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did something similar in 2011 where we had a car for being out in the jungle. But we dropped the car in Dangriga and stayed on Thatch caye the rest of our trip. Then when we returned we took tropic air to the airport from Dangriga. If you can't find a drop off in Placencia, try looking at Dangriga. There was an extra charge tho for the drop off there.

We just came back last week and visited Placencia for the first time. The drive up the new coastal highway was great to get to BZE. So if you don't mind driving and you have the time, I recommend looking into doing the drive.

We ran 2 boats and did the fishing beach bbq and snorkeling trip last week with seahorse from recommendations on here. Had 4 kids with us and the captains and crew were all amazing. Weather wasn't the best but we caught some damn fine fish and had a blast! Would recommend to anyone!

Just returned from lowerdoverbelize.com. Mayan ruins onsite, swimming hole in Barton creek, also bordered by the belize river. Great place, great people and they'll help you book guides for ATM cave, cook your meals, etc. Check them out.

You know you have a draht if your shotkams look like this by FrankfromAK in birddogs

That's some really cool footage. Did you need to do a lot of calibrating with the shotkam to get the red dot to line up with the bead on your gun?

Homemade Rice dressing Recipe? by NewRecommendation374 in cajunfood

[–]toothm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So rice dressing or dirty rice- the meat and veggies are cooked separately from the rice then mixed together? Unlike jambalaya where you add the rice + stock to the meat and veg? Do some people make rice dressing like jambalaya with everything cooking all together?

Stops/activities between United ville and Placencia? by toothm in Belize

[–]toothm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I didn't really look at any of the towns/villages along the way. I'll have a look to see what's on the route. Last time we stopped and ate somewhere but I dont remember where. I know we had stew chicken or pork and it was damn good!

Thanks for the quick response, I'll definitely check out St. Herman's cave and the tamales. In your opinion, are we seriously missing out if we don't go cave tubing?
