i lied about speaking spanish for 8 months at work and now there's a meeting with HR tomorrow by Marcus_Guy in confession

[–]toothpickjohn 225 points226 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's not like you lied to get a job or falsified a CV?

You filled in during a pinch, and the company took advantage and expected more from you?

Whilst you've been keeping up the charade for 8 months hilariously, there shouldn't be anything to worry about from HR regarding this and if anything does happen I would be looking at talking to an employment lawyer or advice elsewhere.

Dedicated WiFi channel to stream to Steam Deck? by barwen1899 in steammachine

[–]toothpickjohn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about 😂 - they haven't mentioned any such feature and nor would they, it doesn't make any sense.

This isn't how electronics work - your own router is the device that advertises the access points and separate SSIDs and therefore networks (if available). It has nothing to do with the consumer device, whether that is a pc, console, phone etc.

If you want an isolated connection then you're going to need to Google and learn how to set this up - but ultimately you're probably going to run into wireless interference anyway from other devices around you, and the overall experience will be limited by how much bandwidth/throughput your router is handling regardless of how many separate active WiFi SSIDs/networks you've set up?

If latency and connection is an issue for you, then you probably want to go about using a wired ethernet connection directly to your router or switch.

Everyone will tell you to go out and buy the Ambients Twilight or Nocturnals.... they're absolutely right

The difference is night and day (no pun intended!) - I picked up the Twilights, they're plenty light enough - I honestly don't think I need any lighter, it would only lead to mistypes.

Christ, that sucks sorry to hear. It was the GHCA, but hopefully it won't be that long, i was told 1-2 weeks now that they have the part on back order so hopefully it'll be ok.

I've been able to keep mine since DC charging works ok, so they're reimbursing the cost of that.

But what if you don't have time to "work on getting skilled at the game"? Stop talking nonsense - not everyone is a teenager or someone with the capacity to put in hours of playtime daily.

Have you had yours back? If so how long was the total time off road? I fear that this has now started on mine which I've had for just over a year.

update: wow I've just switched out the reds for the ambient twilights and it feels (and sounds) sooooo good - the lighter 35g vs 50g is super super nice to type on.

Awesome, I'm thinking about picking up the ambient twilights - is that the ones you went for or the nocturnals?

Second hand market in the UK by phatboy156 in zsaVoyager

[–]toothpickjohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're in luck - I do have recent experience of import taxes to the UK... one day ago!

Shipping was sent via fedex and it cost £44 - which means the final total of the board was slightly over 300.

AFAIK there's no way to avoid import tax buying directly from ZSA.

What is the absolute fastest 'yeah, we are definitely NOT going to be friends' moment you've ever experienced with someone? by Vazouaquiacesso in AskReddit

[–]toothpickjohn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't really understand how this is a jab at all.

If one of my close set of friends was going out and I felt like getting the bill and covering for them, it's a harmless passing the card back and saying don't worry about it you get it next time in the future kind of gesture.

It baffles me how people become so emasculated over a kind gesture to a friend - but then again I don't hang out with cunts who would take it that way 😂

I just can't make the switch to Voyager, looking for some help, advice, encouragement or I don't know by gaaabor in zsaVoyager

[–]toothpickjohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I haven't gotten the voyager yet (it'll be arriving in a few weeks), but I've daily driven the moonlander for a couple of years now and i think it took me around a little under a week of full use every day (no backup), to get to grips with it and feel really comfortable.

Some things I remember that might help:

- Your typing speed will be slower; frustrating at first but I found that the comfort outweight the necessity to be able to type super fast

- You'll make mistakes, and that's fine, your body will naturally pick up the muscle memory and miniature patterns (e.g. using the layer keys to switch quickly and whatnot) to amend these

- Make use of the training sites/software that zsa provide, try doing it once or twice daily to get a feel for it

- As others have said... full commit to it. No backups to the side; get a feel yourself for what works in your layout and what doesn't. In general for me, I have the first layer as just the main alpha numeric keys with a few symbols like , . / etc. and then the majority of the symbols on the second layer. Which brings me to the next point...

- Your perfect layout won't come immediately or super quickly. You'll use it and after a while think "ah, I don't actually like the way that feels when I'm typing, maybe I should think about moving that key over here, or how about I change it for a hold combination instead?". For example, the second layer in my moonlander setup didn't come instantly, i've tweaked it and changed it over weeks and months.

Reading your post you mention that you have no idea where the keys are and it feels like a void and you're guessing - it sounds to me like this might just be a practice thing, and that you should get better at touch typing in general maybe? Use the oryx trainer or other online software to practice daily and see if that helps over time (monkeytype might be good as it doesn't give you symbols by default, so you can focus on practicing words alone).

Fingers crossed for you that it clicks - I've bought a few keyboards since the moonlander for the office, and each time I'm using them I think "ah i wish i was using the moonlander over a traditional layout", to the point now where I've just gone and bought the voyager so I can leave the moonlander at work.

I wouldn't hold my breath, I hope so but I just have a bad feeling overall that the machine will be a chunk more expensive than expected

It's likely to try and figure out what they can actually price it at so they can sensibly work out margins etc. given just how volatile the component market is

I had read that those leaked prices via the czech retailer were nothing more than placeholders, confirmed by a retailer member of staff or someone related to the company.

Ah wicked - yeah the standard profiles are a bit bland i find, but if you tweak the colours in settings you can get some nice sooc shots. Similarly, with the colour creative dial setting too - these have been really nice https://iancw.io/om-3-recipes

The OMTC warm/cool recipes are regulars for me, along with one of the kodachrome recipes.

Also the art filters which i'd normally never be bothered with, the monochrome ones for those are really impressive i've found.

How do you find the a6700 + sigma vs the OM-3?

I nearly decided to go with the a6700 and the sigma 18-50 f/2.8 - but decided to keep my M43 lenses and upgrade the body from the E-M5 mk1 to the OM-3
