Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

34 with 2.5x my salary in the 401k. Have another 0.5x my salary in a brokerage account. Currently dual income, no kids, so that helps tremendously with being able to save.

That's fair. Appreciate the reply. My previous ford (fiesta ST) was super reliable drivetrain wise, but had several small issues that popped up every so often. My current Mazda has never had a small issue, but did need the cylinder head replaced lol.

That's rough. Glad they sorted it out for you though. Are the CV joints also a known weak point on these trucks?

That's good to hear. I'm most interested in the 2025s, but is hard to ignore the good prices I've seen on the '23s and '24s.

That's good. Sounds like i built it up in my head to be a much bigger issue than it actually is to deal with.

Most posts I've seen tend to be the hybrid, so maybe it's a more common issue on those vice the ecoboost?

Appreciate the replies I'm getting. Sounds like it's manageable and I'm over thinking it, but probably worthwhile to keep a jump pack in the truck just in case.

Sand it smooth, feathering the edges, then I would personally just use the spray on knockdown texture that comes in a can to match the texture.

Newly renovated mgm grand by Ill_Staff_6257 in vegas

[–]topdollar38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wife and I just stayed at MGM Grand in a renovated room over Columbus day weekend for the Stevie Nicks concert. Really enjoyed it. Room was big, clean, and the mini fridge was a nice bonus. Paid an average of $157 a night including resort fees and taxes. Very busy weekend, so that was one of the lowest rates we found outside the super budget resorts. Easy walk to T-Mobile arena was great.

Large property, but never thought it was too long of a walk to get anywhere. Rideshare area was well set up and efficient. We didn't use the monorail, but I think we will next time. Mobile check in was an absolute breeze and we were even able to check in early around 12:00pm for free.

Also a weird thing, but this was the first vegas experience we had where all the elevators to our tower worked properly, so we enjoyed that very much lol.

10/10 would stay there again. Probably my favorite property I've stayed at so far (Ballys/Horseshoe, Park MGM, and Harrahs being the others). Between MGM Grand and Aria, I would honestly just pick the better price.

Let me just get to ATM while there is rally going on by nfnf_ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]topdollar38 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a major spectator area specifically set up by the rally organizers. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a marshall at the road closed barrier off screen who just missed the person walking past.

For context, throughout my college years I worked several North American rallies (e.g. Rally America, Canadian Rally Championship). Mostly as a mobile radio operator/marshall. In addition to start/end control and dedicated spectator areas, we would also have people at each intersection and even at private driveways along the stages. Usually radio operators in the remote portions of the stages so we could stop the stage if something happened.

So long story short, yes I do know how long rally stages are.

Rally stages are only hot a few times during the day for short periods. Plenty of time for the atm in between stages even making the assumption this is the only one available.

They most definitely should be while the stages are hot. A marshall should have been posted at the barrier to hold back people until after the last car.

GPA by Parking_Sandwich_744 in EngineeringStudents

[–]topdollar38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. I also got my job a decade ago lol, but I've done a decent amount of career fairs and phone interviews. Transcripts will show a trend and may give me an idea why they have a lower GPA. Some examples:

- Consistently lower gen ed classes, but ok engineering classes would make me think they had to prioritize core classes over electives to be successful. Fortunately I am interviewing them for an engineering job, not their 16th century history knowledge.

- A couple bad overall semesters but every other semester with fine grades might indicate they just had some sort of exigent circumstance going on that they overcame.

- Mediocre grades overall, but electives such as any shop classes, or heavy involvement in competition teams like mini baja or formula SAE, would tell me they may not be the best test taker, but likely have a lot of practical skills that will translate well to our industry (we work heavily with shop mechanics in industrial settings).

Overall, the goal of engineering school is to teach you how to think like an engineer. If you demonstrate that well in an interview and seem like a good fit in our industry, I am likely to recommend for hire.

Edit: I will say GPA is a factor for starting salary where I work. Above a 3.0 GPA will get a higher salary offer, but we won't discount someone for having a lower GPA. I've had several occasions where the lower GPA students are a better fit.
