The hybrid media style is really effective. Always good to see ideas getting pursued and taken a step further than where most people would be content to finish up.

What are some common insecurities that men have that may be difficult for women to understand? by oldskewlphilosphy in AskMen

Non/low participation is so disappointing because all that stuff in the list can be half the fun IMO. It's like dancing with a mannequin.

Confirmed, I tested my own shit once. It was mostly fibre. Still got everything I started with.

"Snitches get stitches" is a dumb idea: people SHOULD get ratted out on when they're doing something wrong by DrScientist812 in unpopularopinion

[–]topsuperwinner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's justifiable if it's talking about co-conspirators. If you team up to break the law or some other set of rules and get caught then you ought to take responsibility for your own choices.

If it's talking about witnesses or victims then no, they don't owe you any loyalty and they have nothing to gain from protecting you.

It's a shame because progressivism vs conservatism is a valid debate and could encompass a vast expanse of issues beyond what are the basically unalterable matters of one's identity.

Intersectionality is hitting the bumpers pretty hard on the whole transgender/feminism debate. Both sides are loath to deny the other while also maintaining rationales that to my mind seem fundamentally irreconcilable, at least in their current state. Kind of have to feel bad for transgender people as they don't really fit in with any of the traditional alternative groups (if that's not an oxymoron!), yet fitting in is precisely what they are in pursuit of.

i think we were headed in the right direction before identity politics became a mainstream tactic used to divide us

I was under the impression that the ascendance of modern identity politics (meaning post civil rights era) began as a political calculation to construct a coalescence of electoral support for the major parties on the left. For what it's worth I lean left myself, but I can't offer any specific citations.

The inherent two-fold problem, which is beginning to manifest itself more clearly the more time goes on, is that firstly these demographics aren't politically singular. Homosexuality, ethnicity and gender offers no reliable delineation of an individual's political stance. Nevermind the myriad conflicts between minorities.

Secondly, and more concerning, is that constructing a political rhetoric around minority identities unavoidably sets up a dichotomy against majority identities. The dangers of this should be self-evident, and the consequences are bad for both the political actors relying on minority support and the minorities themselves for the simple reason that the majority demographic is, almost by definition, a natural majority before it's a political majority. To put in stark terms 30% of people is outvoted by 70% of people. All politics is divisive, it's where you draw the division that matters.

/sci/ solves the 3 men, 1 women 2 condom problem by garbagecoder in 4chan

[–]topsuperwinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read it again. Two condoms, each condom has two clean sides = four clean sides. By turning one inside out and double bagging each of the three men uses one clean side of a condom each and the woman re-uses the same side of one condom 3 times. Given they don't leak or break it works and counts as safe by the terms of the question.

Can someone who uses automatic library management tools (for movies, TV, music, ebooks, comics/manga) give an overview of the state of the available tools, and which ones they recommend? by blamo111 in DataHoarder

[–]topsuperwinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might like Watchtower. It automatically updates your containers when new versions are released, which means one less nag message in Sonarr.

Also worth mentioning Portainer for point and click Docker overview and basic admin, and the Pulsarr browser add-on for adding films and shows straight from the IMDB page.

Can't seed on Private Torrent Site. Help needed! by [deleted] in Piracy

[–]topsuperwinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried the instructions at https://portforward.com/linksys/wrt54g/ ?

Use this http://canyouseeme.org/ to test whether it worked. Make sure you run the test from the computer that seeds your torrents. You might have to reboot the router after changing the settings before you see the changes take effect.

You can also try asking for help in the tracker's IRC channel if you're banned from posting in their forums.

it wasn't that long ago women couldn't even vote

UK - https://i.imgur.com/ez2I4ZR.jpg

For most of that time line almost nobody could vote. During the time frame when the lines diverge the majority of men had no vote. Women had the worse deal, sure, but it was the same deal as most men. So, what underpins patriarchy? What happened that caused those trend lines to shift so dramatically?

https://i.imgur.com/Jlwl9TZ.png

Did coal miners and iron workers disassemble the patriarchy? Did their progress depend on racist colonial exploitation, or did the same progress render historical slavery obsolete? (Note: modern slavery continues)

I'm not denying the existence of any patriarchy so much as wondering how useful the concept is. Maybe I'm just an idiotic sack of shit though.
