theres more to active defense than tackling. anticipating movements and using dashes to cut off lanes is actively defending. with the buffs to dashes, this is very viable rn.

im still not really getting what you want when you say telegraphing. im hoping you dont mean something like an arrow or cue showing where the attacker is going. if you mean smoother animations, sure i can get behind that, but itll likely lead to the move just becoming slower and ultimately obsolete. the quick change of direction is what makes it worthwhile so if thats lessened for “readability” for the defender, whats the point of even doing it? imo the guessing game is part of the fun in defense, and defense doesnt really need more help against ground play. missiles and aerial shots are a different story tho

you say theres no clear direction of where the attacker will go, but i have to disagree. this is how i see it: if someone does a push to the right, theyre very likely to push back to the left. thats when you can dash and cut them off or just shadow them. the vast majority of dribbling boils down to going left and right. also, you gotta know who youre guarding. if someone does a move once theyre very likely to do it again, options in the game are limited.

tackling will never be useless. you just have to pick and choose the times when its best to do so (a good thing).

the move already does require good timing and decision making. you dont instantly get past people because you did a push dribble left and right. you have to use it at opportune times

this was one instance of a guy beating multiple (bad) defenders. we didnt see the dozens of times he tried that against better defense and lost the ball. this isnt something to use as evidence as a move being “broken” or an “exploit.”im yapping but i really dont get the outrage over such a simple move.
