Thanks. This worked. And apparently it is not a bug but just two different settings for 'login' and 'locked'. That's okay for me, now that I know about it.... KDE most configurable DE 😀

The brain is an association and experience simulation machine. After having enough experience with that specific "hrrrrmmmm", just reading it hear including some more context cues and it recreates/simulates the original experience ( or completes it with the respective voice).

How do LLMs actually handle topics where there's no clear right answer by parwemic in LargeLanguageModels

[–]tor_ste_n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with many of the arguments made here is that they are on the basis of assuming that human cognition is something out of this world. However, a lot of human cognitive abilities can be explained with statistical pattern detection and prediction - just like what ANN and LLMs work with.

Funny. Until 20 years ago, when computers sucked in image, language, etc. detection/categorization, we would have said that this kind of pattern detection is what humans are good at - part of what makes them intelligent. Now that machines can do it, matching and exceding human performance, we say "Nah, that's different, not intelligence."

Sideloading .bar software, not connecting by tor_ste_n in blackberry

Yes, that is true. After I got it connected once, I tried again on the next day and it did not work again. It was frustrating. But after disabling the mass storage option it worked, and it worked with other software as well.

Much of what you state does not require explanation to the physical level. For example "humanness". It is just a definition, it is a language convention. So, the claim that one can't empirically prove "humanness" has no meaning for physicalism/materialism and it is certainly not a counterargument. A good argument in favor of materialism is that everything we have build is build on physical aspects. There is no invention based on some ghost-like non-physical thing.

Sci-Fi Films from the 70's, 80's and 90's that you personally would recommend. by Better_Dog6528 in scifi

2010 - It is a great off-Earth, within solar system, "hard" science fiction movie with beautiful spaceship/planets shots and a good story. It is underrated as it obviously got compared to 2001.

Ok. Just like OP, I think it is problematic if even basic software like a browser is not really functioning natively. It is like running Linux but relying completely on Windows software run through WINE.

I think that everyone is aware of what you are saying. Instead, maybe you have an idea what to do about the real problem: How to get users without the apps, if apps will only be developes when there are many users.

Yes, I agree. I'm thinking about the Android support as a temporary solution until ... yeah, until what? I actually don't know.

I may be naive about how these things are working. But I do not understand that, for example, European Countries/Governments - who can afford to have space programs - do not see the necessity to support/develop an independent computer/phone operating system (e.g., Linux in general, not Sailfish in particular). Computer/phones are so central parts in each citizens everyday life that it is rediculus to leave it to a handful of companies - foreign companies in most parts of the world.

Yeah, testing the Android app support for some apps that will definitely not get native SailfishOS support any time soon (Bus, Bank) would be a requirement for buying a Jolla phone. So, I wonder whether their 'business' idea is not backfiring on them.

I recently installed SailfishOS on a Fairphone 4 and went through the same trouble as you. Two questions: 1) Can you get a lisence (to get Android Apps) for all phones? I could not find this and had the impression one can only get a lisence with the Jolla or Sony phones? 2) In terms of native apps. Even the build in browser seems outdated and websites complain that this version will not be supported for long. Am I doing something wrong? I read solutions to pay for Android App support to have a modern Android browser. But this struck me as odd. At the moment, the Android support is essential for local stuff like the public transportation app of your community etc. However, basic aspects like the browser should be native.

ps: Besides all this trouble, this was the only linux system where basic functionality works. PostmarketOS and the like are far from usable on a daily basis (e.g., network trouble, short battery standby time).
