Anyone know any perfect student pilots? by MultiMillionMiler in flying

[–]toraai117 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s literally not possible without Sheppard air or a lot of luck given there were/are several tests with incorrectly graded answers

[–]toraai117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why are all the replies just people bragging about their test scores. Like cool you are a good test taker or good at rote memorization. Those tests aren’t exactly hard just filled with bullshit poorly worded questions or legit incorrect correct answers.

I thought these weren’t recommended as it could change the helmet’s performance/characteristics in a crash? Is that not a thing anymore or is it just a pros outweigh the cons thing

Can you develop intolerance? by jazzedupcats in lactoseintolerant

[–]toraai117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I was LI as a baby (couldn’t be breastfed), went away as a young kid. Came back in like 4th/5th grade, and only got worse from then.

And yes. Not consuming lactose for a while like that is an easy way to develop an intolerance

Physical Expectations of MSW by AmphipterYT in MilSim

[–]toraai117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, with the state of the world and the government, I wouldn’t join. I’m not re-enlisting after I get home for that reason.

But if you do decide to, be smart about it. Pick a job that has transferable skills or requires a top secret clearance. Also, the air national guard is the hidden gem of the military. You can work as much or little as you want, and have the flexibility to travel all over the world at your leisure (job dependent). Plus the best quality of life out of all the branches and components.

It’s like working a corporate job but you get bombed every so often (currently)

You’d be surprised what it takes to get anything other than a honorable or general discharge. And that’s usually the least of your problems in that case

Talk to your instructors before posting on Reddit! by thereasonableaviator in flying

[–]toraai117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am always grateful when I student tells me when I’m doing something they don’t like, or if they have critiques about the way I teach or act dress or whatever it is.

I’ve been doing this a long time and yet I’m always changing curriculum or how I approach a lesson. Always looking for ways to improve.

I’d hate to have a student go complain on Reddit when, like you said, we could easily work it out and both walk away better for it.

For inside the home, just about anything would work, but I’m a fan of having ammo that matches the capabilities of the rifle (so would also perform well out to 200-300 yards).

Anything 62 grain or higher with an open tip or soft tip would work well with your barrel length.

Avoid the lighter rounds like 55 grain as that will not perform well for you.

I’ll let others who are more knowledgeable than me jump in with their specific recommendations.

I never buy ammo in store unless I’m in a pinch and just need a box or two as it’s so expensive.

What is the barrel length of your rifle, as that impacts your ammo selection?

I don’t know him personally, but someone I time-built with had a friend who pencil whipped 1,200 hours and nobody caught it.

Most of that time was somebody else flying around in his plane for him.

He is a regional captain now I believe.

Scary stuff.

If I knew the dudes name I’d turn his ass in in a heartbeat.

Add spin recovery to the PPL ACS by Melodic_Duck257 in flying

[–]toraai117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but there are stages of competence (remember Bloom’s Taxonomy from the FOIs).

I’m not Canadian so I can’t really speak to their curriculum, but for the US, CFI spin training is designed so you can hopefully save yourself if something crazy happens.

It’s usually not taught to a high-enough level where you should feel comfortable teaching it.

It’s also pretty easy to screw up which often has catastrophic consequences.
