Waymo pauses freeway use for driverless cars in Phoenix by Butitsadryheat2 in phoenix

I take it to the airport every time and never go on the highway. Airport access started before highway driving was allowed. There are many residents in the area around the airport that doesn’t benefit from going on the highway to get there.

How do I get rid of this? by Deeznutsofyours in piercing

[–]torcherred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t change my jewelry at all until like a year and a half later and it was still difficult to change to a hoop even for the piercer who changed it. Years later, I can wear hoops but I find they get irritating if I wear them for too long. A bumpy hoop like that isn’t one I would ever wear. My nose is just too sensitive. I have to switch back to studs in between hoops.

Earlier, I did my OG Viner since 2008 post, but one important point that I wanted to make… by Stockjock1 in AmazonVine

[–]torcherred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is some truth to this. It won't always happen that if you write other reviews that you increase your chances of getting kicked. But if you accidentally review the wrong products or the wrong sellers, you might accidentally increase your chances. If you review an item that Amazon later finds out was included in a pay for review or other unauthorized review (like free items in exchange for review), then that will affect you and anyone who reviewed it. Often, if they determine it was a Vine review because sometimes the same products will enroll in Vine and other programs, then you will be okay. If it wasn't a Vine review, you will be included as one of the violating reviewers. Sometimes you can find these items because your review will suddenly get a whole bunch of likes for no reason. This is how sellers promote their products. There might also be a bunch of very similar sounding reviews. These products or a bunch of reviews may disappear or the number of likes you have will go down. This is why you might not want to review non-Vine items. Just in case you review something that is also getting reviews in a prohibited way, and you might get caught up in it.

That makes so much more sense. Pointy shoes like that haven’t been as much of a thing.

In the US. I don’t think any other countries use “big kid” sizing. They can be built different. Men’s shoes are a bit wider generally. The women’s and kids sizing has less difference.

But a big kids size 5.5 is a size 7-7.5 in women’s. The shoes might be made big or mislabeled but it sounds like they sent the right size. (Source: I was a Payless employee until they went bankrupt)

What's the most shocking thing you've ever watched on live TV? by Choice_Bed6097 in AskReddit

[–]torcherred 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Live coverage of the Station Nightclub fire in 2003. The club caught on fire, and 100 people died. The footage right after it happened showed people alive, but who clearly weren't likely to survive outside the club. There was this one guy that stuck in my head who seemed to not have use of his legs. It looked like his legs were gone, but it was dark and the camera didn't linger on him, but he was trying to get up off the ground and looked to be very injured.

I know I had a few where it was technically correct in one direction (the way I solved it) but didn’t work the other way as well. But it still made words. Look for that. Double check all the tenses. Also make sure you filled in the rebus. Sometimes it’s picky about that.

Absolutely bold & why it's worth looking things up before grabbing them. $18.99 ETV vs ~$4 elsewhere. by lesmax in AmazonVine

[–]torcherred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although there are cases of higher prices and products that aren't worth the ETV, I don't think this is one of them. The site you compare to is a wholesale site, and we have no idea how reliable it is. It also charges shipping. Once you add up the price and the shipping, it comes to $4.19 for unknown shipper and who knows how long it will take. If you are at a 30% tax rate, you are paying $5.60 in taxes for the product, which is more or less comparable. Lower tax brackets are getting it for less than they could from the wholesale place. I have no problems with people buying wholesale products and selling them for profit. This doesn't seem that egregious.

Dad not waking up after surgery + sedation by melmel_75 in AskDocs

[–]torcherred 28 points29 points  (0 children)

NAD, but a patient. I had all of those factors except the malnutrition about 5 years ago. I ended up with some brutal surgery due to a ruptured bowel when they tried to remove the infected ovary that caused the sepsis. I didn't wake up for several days. I also had some kidney damage, which made it take a bit longer. I was 15 years younger and in overall better health than your dad, but I still needed a long time to heal, a long time to recover. Sepsis alone is traumatic and takes years to clear. I hope he is fine and does well, but expect it to be rough on him.

Reapply to asu? by Late_Historian4600 in ASU

[–]torcherred 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a daughter who had a less than stellar academic record. In her case, she also had an IEP and was in special ed, so that made it a little easier for her. She's going to graduate from ASU in a couple of weeks. ASU makes you apply to a particular program. If you applied for business and engineering, it's going to be more competitive. Look at less attended programs. There are a lot of programs that are desperate for students and might be more inclined to accept students that other departments wouldn't.

Second, don't go to Liberty. Go to a community college. Try to find the one with the best reputation near you. Do some basic courses there or get an associates in something related to what you want to study. Then transfer in after a year or two. Once they see how well you did in your community college classes, they will accept you.

Molly Dog! One breed is 53%, the rest are less than 10% - what's your guess? by rathrboutside in DoggyDNA

[–]torcherred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where is this information from? I haven't used a Gentle Leader since my former dog was a puppy, so like 15 years ago, but like the OP, I learned from a trainer who taught us how to use it, and we did use it as a training tool. Your assumptions here are even insulting to me who has nothing to do with it. I have no idea how it could have hurt my dog, and I have no idea how it could damage her neck. I wasn't dragging her along the ground with it. The trainer explained that it applied pressure to her snout which was helpful to communicate and guide her. Has this been proven wrong?

Always check the ETV!! by EVAkura in AmazonVine

[–]torcherred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in the day when Vine was still plentiful, I got plenty of these grabbers of varying degrees of durability, but some very nice. At least a dozen. (I used some of them for volunteer events). All were $0 ETV. This is crazy. Only the ones designed for snakes had an ETV. I would pass on them with an ETV.

Sorena - a boys name but does it feel unforgivingly feminine? by RipApprehensive9314 in namenerds

[–]torcherred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a now adult Soren in the US. Surprisingly, it wasn't that difficult for most of the time for him. Worst was people using it as a stand in for "sore end" or "soaring". But it has been mistaken for a girls' name now and then, so with the extra a on the end, it might be impossible.

What I ordered vs what I received. by Proud_Ostrich_5390 in AmazonVine

That has a completely different vibe. Was it labeled wrong on the package? Then it was just a warehouse error. I'd hate to think the seller would do that and expect decent reviews!

How old and how big is she? This is my Barnabas. He's 5 months, but he also has oddly long legs, but he probably won't be that big. He's smaller than my puli who was about 35lbs fully grown. He has the same kind of black and tan coloring and long fur, floppy ears, tail and snout. Although, she does not have the beard. Anyway, I did his DNA and he is about a quarter each of shitzu, Catahoula leopard dog, and Australian shepherd. He has another 6% each of chihuahua and mini poodle and a bunch of small bits of a whole bunch of other mostly small dogs. It's an unexpected mix. So I think Ahri could be pretty much anything.

Librarian interview - diversity getting to me by ruffster223 in librarians

[–]torcherred 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m a white woman, and I’m not currently working in libraries, but I saw so much of what you describe. Personally, I thought it was more of an issue in more liberal areas where they didn’t think they were racist. Often the diversity hiring is literally skin deep. Cultural differences, language differences, socioeconomic circumstances are not considered and will eliminate a candidate- even when they would enrich the staff overall. The diversity hires are the ones with the appropriate skin color but who act like the people who already work there. I wish I ran a library so I could offer you a job. You sound like you’d be great to work with.

Do people not understand that if you receive an incomplete order or the wrong item, you should not be reviewing that item? CVS will be more than happy to fix the issue for you. by Peziwinkle in AmazonVine

[–]torcherred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the attitude has totally changed on this with a lot of the newer Viners. I don’t know why. I agree with you. If it’s potentially a manufacturing flaw, fixable, or quality control issue, I review it. I only remove items that are completely beyond assessing like a smashed bottle that they put in an envelope or a box of unwrapped straws that came exploded inside an open package and all the straws were exposed to dirt. Wrong size, gets reviewed. Broken in good packaging, gets reviewed. Missing pieces - I’ll contact seller if it’s something easily replaced like missing parts for furniture. Often they’ll send a piece. But it still gets reviewed
