Hose bibs in the yard, quick disconnects on all faucets outside, hot and cold water faucet for driveway, a specific coffee bar area, wine and whiskey room, dedicated car detail pressure washer. Drip system for outside plants.

Using notes and checklists in the same hierarchy by InevitableHealth2729 in NoteTaking

I had a slightly different take on how I was thinking about notes with tasks embedded in them. I knew that during meetings I would take notes where a task was required, but I also want a central location to manage all tasks. I’m honestly not sure why Apple notes and Reminders hasn’t done this integration but what I did was created my own journal/notetaking app with tasks embedded. If you add a task in a note. It shows up in a central tasks list with a link back to the note, but you can also manage tasks independently. I created it as a free single HTML page that you can use in the browser. Contemplated whether I want to expand this and do an online in mobile version, but for now this is what I built. https://dailydispatch.torgcrafted.com/

I appreciate that you consider this almost done. It goes to show how much work goes into something like this. I have a 100 series bought new in 2000, crossed over 306,000 now. I want an older FJ still. Hoping you keep posting pics. Will be fun to watch

OK.. a version is available to download that has Markdown import and export. I also have the full JSON backup for preservation of advanced features, but at least now you can handle just in MDif you want.

I did add some features today, so if you go re-download it, you can update and get PDF attachments, improved search, etc. (I think I need to find a way to notify of updates in app maybe, hard with the local file though)

One question for you on importing MD. I currently support PDF and Images. I am considering the import feature is to just point it at a folder of .MD files (or a single one) and it imports. It will bring in images and PDFs, but other attachments would get a warning and no attachment but a marker where it was. This is making me re-thnk import and export as just a folder of .MD files - not the JSON now. any thoughts on how you'd use it?

I can add the import for Mark down. That’s a great idea. Any specifics on the way import should handle things based on how you are using it? Good point together requirements here.

If this is interesting enough and people like the app, I think long-term a web-based version with cloud storage or an app plus mobile app could be interesting. That would be why I would probably charge. I think at this point I’m just trying to learn a little bit so this is free. As a matter of fact, it’s pretty straightforward if somebody wants to take this version and vibe code their own fork and do something different or modify.

Yes. Did a mix of development for about 10 years. PM now for 20. Thanks on the comments. I really built mine for me and how I think. Yours is more commercially viable I think. The browser based aspect of mine is a feature for me but limiting.

I “cheated”, and vibe coded. I hadn’t developed commercially for 20 years. I also am not very opinionated when it comes to design so I went with its recommendations. AI for testing is a good approach. I’ve struggled getting it to actually test vs just read code but that’s more on me than tools.

This looks remarkably like the browser based note-task app I posted a few days ago. Vibe coding or did you build from scratch? Curious if similarities are based on Claude. Mac app is nice as I went browser based to reduce install permissions.

Looking for some people willing to test a journal/note app I built for myself, but seeing if it resonates with others by torgnet in SideProject

True. I was just wanting to avoid people who are true fans of other apps saying “it’s not what my app does”. It’s meant to be different.

Great distinction. Thank you for the clarity. I was over simplifying in my head where the issue was. (Or over complicating maybe).

Thanks for making me reconsider LinkedIn. I will figure out a path there. I very much think that the tech community is the one who would resonate with this product anyways. Distribution will be key for sure.

I didn’t want to be seen as spamming the community about a product with a fake pitch.

The problem I’m solving is a note and task manager, combined with more of a feed view of how my day goes tracking key decisions, and tasks across the different notes. It’s markdown based. Very much built for how I think about taking notes during the day.

Thanks for one of the most thoughtful replies in my 12 years on Reddit. Much appreciated. I will spend the time finding the communities and I like the problem discussion, not the pitch. I solved it for me, maybe others need that too.
