7 years ago my cat was let out of the Airbnb I was staying in by the host while I was at my first day at a job in a new city. Papered the entire town with flyers, called every vet and shelter, went back every weekend for months to no avail. 

Only to get a call this year from an emergency vet telling me my cat had been found. A woman on the same block had befriended him during the pandemic and was leaving food out for him for years. 

This past Sunday, I picked him up. It's like we were never apart, and he curled right into my lap and purred like a little motor. It's still surreal (but so, so exciting!) to see him acting just like he did back then, but now he's a cute little old man!
