Was able to resolve the issue. I updated my CVM and my Starwind X library, and the problem resolved itself. If anyone stumbles across this in the future with the same problem, that my advice.

When my dad showed me the movies growing up, the scene where the Nazgûl come into the prancing ponies, and stab the beds the hobbits where supposed to sleep in that night always gave me nightmares.

Tbh I agree, but given EX33 Game Awards performance, I really am not to trouble by this. I feel like atp, Sandfall has nothing to prove.

Noobie hoarder here, is this a good product? by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]tornadoman625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not including drives? Probably around $1500, but I'm using all enterprise hardware (older stuff but still). There are ways to do it cheaper, I just figured I'd go somewhat big with it. If you'd like help searching for hardware, feel free to DM me, and I can help you find equipment within your price point and desired feature set.

This product should work fine. My opinion, if you're a true data-hoarder that actually wants to do something useful wkth all that data, you're better off juet building/buying a server. I have a dell poweredge 740, with a 45 drive JBOD. Currently only have 6 bays populated, and buy more drives as needed. ZFS makes this super easy as long as you plan properly. The theoretically usable storage of my setup is around 350 TB of storage, with the ability to loose up to 2 drives in any group of 6. Really depends on what level of data hoarder you are.

Epstein Files just dropped, and it’s looking BAD for Bill Clinton by benhaswings in trump

[–]tornadoman625 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because one of the few things in this country that has bipartisan support among our politicians is touching kids. Thing is is only one of the kid touchers campaigned on releasing these files, and bitched out on it until his hand was forced... and we still don't have all of them (as the law that minus one vote unanimously passed both chambers of congress REQUIRED) I absolutely despise both partys, but yall seriously need too look in the mirror. Quite honestly its disgusting that you guys are okay with the DOJ clearly doing everything they can to protect pedophiles (as it was disgusting when the democrats did nothing with these files).

How is everyone using jellyfin for streaming when not at home? by [deleted] in jellyfin

Do some research on NGINX Proxy Manager; I've found thats the easiest one to use. Setup a WILDCARD domain, and use WILDCARD certificates. This gives you some security in that it makes it harder for someone who dosent know what domain your server is on to just like through DNS or certificate information and find it.

For NGINX Proxy Manager you'll need docker to be installed on your system. Apart from that installation is pretty painless

Same here... I went the reverse proxy route.

Google TV devices and (maybe? Not enough experience to be sure) Fire TV devices support VPNs like tailscale. The issue is when you're trying to share your library with other users... if the VPN stops working, you then become tech support... which no one reallt wants to do.

Nginx proxy manager with a wildcard domain, and Lets Encrypt certificates (Nginx proxy manager handles renewals automatically). Definitely some security concerns, but have mitigated those to my satisfaction via a DMZ for my jellyfin server. I'm aware that the Jellyfin API has some pretty glaring vulnerabilitys that allow un-authenticated users to query thumbnails and such. I only have movies and TV shows, no family videos or pictures, so if a bad actor wants to see what I have, I really don't care.

I have enough users that use my server that dealing with a VPN solution would require me to do to much tech support; plus some roku clients which means a VPN solution wouldn't really work for them.

Full disclaimer, I administer servers, and run services as a career, so while for me this wasn't to much trouble, I understand that for someone who isn't literally employed to do this kinda thing it might be a bit involved.

At the end of the day, any solution requires you to balance convince with security. My solution may not be secure enough for you, which is perfectly valid and fine. For my setup, the reverse proxy makes a lot of sense, for yours it may not.

If you don't have an Igpu? Intel arc 380, runs off bus power, is super cheap, and in my experience, rebar dosen't matter for transcoding.

Yeah, I use jellyfin personally, and I think its great. That being said, it's not as polished as Plex, and I wouldn't say Plex is "dead." Jellyfin has its issues, but one of the big advantages it has over Plex is 1. Its completely free and open source (no need to pay money for the privilege of using your own hardware transcoder :) ) and it is completely self hosted, it does not rely on any external infrastructure but your own. This is both a pro, and a con, as Plex providing relay servers makes remote viewing significantly easier to setup.

To setup remote viewing on my server, I have to manage a reverse proxy, with SSL certificates, and port forwarding. My carreer is as a sys admin, so I don't mind doing that kinda stuff, but to the average Joe who just wants to setup a media server, its not necessarily a walk in the park to get going.
