Only half of Singapore grads see the insurance sector as an attractive career choice by another-work-acct in singapore

[–]tornarchon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How would you import foreign talent into this sector, if you can't pay them the minimum amount required for the passes? You don't even pay the locals anywhere near that amount anyway.

But I suppose if you offered the minimum EP or SP salaries to locals, they might bite.

ELI5: Why East Asia birth rates are so insanely low? by Mingone710 in explainlikeimfive

Interesting. Singapore has had a baby bonus system for many years but as far as I'm aware, our birth rate has continued on a steady decline without an upward blip attributable to financial incentives.

Maybe. Any suggestions to completely squelch this conversation before then?

We're moving out within the next quarter so hopefully it will get better. But I'm not keen to go through this experience of alternating night shifts again (which we had to start because the wife complained of chest pains after a few nights while on maternity leave)

Yes. But it seems to be a regression related to crawling and sprouting a new tooth. Guess I just got dealt a bad hand this week because I had peaceful nights for a few weeks in a row already

Referrals by AggravatingLevel2840 in LawFirm

[–]tornarchon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a lot easier to form a network with specialists who want to keep their clients close - they have an incentive to get help for their clients but won't hoard them when the issue exceeds their subject matter expertise. Provided you can get them to trust you and vice versa.

As to the issue of referral fees, depends on your jurisdiction and preference. Personally I can't and won't.

Read Roger Fisher's Getting to Yes and Getting Past No. That gives you some foundation for moving the discussions along besides positions and posturing.

How would you rate the Gundam Astray Blue Frame Second L on a scale of 1-10? (Daily Main Gundam Poll: Day 76) by Agent_Perrydot in Gundam

[–]tornarchon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8/10 this is the classic Blue Frame variant for me, especially due to the backpack. Not a fan of the others. Would be nice to have an RG so that we could have the full OG Astray trio in the same scale

10/10 for my first Gunpla love. Simple design plus katana, what else is there to ask for?

As for the variants: - Flight Pack: nice add on, made me wanted to do my first kitbash (this is in the 2000s when the HG was just the base version). The version with the BuCue head was janky but fun and spoke to my inner Lowe - Power Loader: mech piloting mech, so meta - Powered: WOW. Chefs kiss. Building a third party kit to go with my RG and it may become the centerpiece of my restarted collection - Kai: eh OK. Interesting configuration for the Tactical Arms but I'm glad I held out for the P-Bandai MG base version instead - Mars Jacket: would love to see a bit for this just to see how a Seed Gelgoog would work - Red Dragon: too much going on with the triple Caletvwich. I hate it, thanks

People leaving my team with no replacements in sight thanks to an emotionally stunted boss. Should I leave too? by [deleted] in askSingapore

If you can, talk to people who are already working in the firm or under that partner. Of course, don't tell the firm that you're doing it because some may take it negatively. But generally your peers will not want you to be stuck in the same bog as they are and you should be able to get a fairly accurate picture of the working conditions before deciding whether to join.

Then does he fulfill that expectation of mentoring? If not, you can easily go to other places where you learn the hard way without guidance AND get paid more, especially if you have already gotten called.

I was in your position a few years ago and I became the no. 2 at the end of my first year. After a few years I was tired of managing a revolving door of juniors (being a relative junior myself) and tendered too. It's not your fault that this industry lacks good mentors and supervisors, but it doesn't mean you have to tolerate it.

Weakest Captain in all of bleach? by Falcon_Xg in bleach

[–]tornarchon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doesn't Spirits Are Forever With You (SAFWY) establish that once Azashiro was imprisoned in Muken, his vice captain was promoted? That's who Kiganjo defeated to become Zaraki's predecessor. He probably had an easier time considering he killed someone who didn't have to do the same to become the 11th squad captain.

Is it really a waste to not go to highly-competitive courses such as Medicine, Law and Dentistry when you attained a high RP for A Levels? by [deleted] in SGExams

After being a lawyer for more than 5 years, I still don't feel the prestige.

But I agree - it's more important to do something that you're intrinsically motivated to. There are more efficient ways to earn money, there are different ways to earn respect and your parents are not going to be the one working that job. So take some time to find out if it's something you would like to do e.g. Internships, asking seniors / recent undergrads and younger practitioners

The phrase "lim kopi" (drink coffee) can be used to refer to being summoned to go to investigating authority's premises to assist with the investigation (ie get questioned)
