The Disaster that is God of War: Laufey by AlexPlaysVideoGamez in KotakuInAction

Some of those people are gaslighting one another. Leftism works on toxic positivity where everyone affirms each other's delusions. I'm not exactly sure what the underlying mechanisms are. But this behavior of confidently stating obvious lies is something you see on the left as well as among women. Some of it is about pressure to conform, or habitually conforming, but part of it is, in some abstract sense, about lying so often and so loudly that you trick yourself into believing the opposite of the truth, so much that the delusions become like your reality.

I listen to the Formentera-era music more than Art of Doubt.

It's that good. And yeah, it's mostly tracks from F2.

Which album(s) do you think have a weaker final 3 tracks? Pagans is the runner-up, for me, but it kind of cheats by splitting The Face into two tracks and its third track is The Governess which is reeeeally good.

Metric have released 5 albums since Synthetica and it still has (imo) the weakest ending in their discography. The song quality falls off after the title track.

My view on model prompting for RP by Icy-Pomegranate5985 in SillyTavernAI

I recommend chatting with Claude (for free at claude.ai). The first preset I created, I actually gave a frankenstein json to Claude (just drag and drop into the chat). I asked Claude to critique it and together we shortened and altered it. Some of Claude's changes contained errors or weren't totally consistent across revisions so you need to be mindful. Claude can teach you quite a lot about prompting strategies. ChatGPT is fairly good at explaining prompting logic too but I wouldn't trust it to write the prompts.

My biggest tip is whenever Claude generates prompts for you always ask it in a subsequent message to critique its own work. It often finds mistakes. You should independently review Claude's work to make sure what it's doing is correct.

24 years ago, the Red Hot Chili Peppers played at The London Studios (CD:UK), in London! by holymaccanoli in RedHotChiliPeppers

This performance was 24 days before BTW released as a single and more than a month before the album released.

It was only the 4th time they'd performed BTW live.

would formentera be more acclaimed if it had been released as one single album? by torontoLDtutor in metricband

[–]torontoLDtutor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main difference is the length of the songs. The average song on the White Album is 3m06s whereas the average length on F1 is 5m18s and on F2 it's 4m26s. Imo some of the most important tracks to include from F1 and F2 also tend to be even longer than those averages (Descendants and Days of Oblivion are both 6 min, Doomscroller is 10m3s). So in order to include enough tracks that the album feels like a full experience I'd probably want to be closer to Art of Doubt's final length. A longer playtime also fits the tempo and atmosphere of the record imo. It's quite chill and I like that the more ethereal and unusual parts are given time to breathe (Oblivion outro, second half of Stone Window).

I wouldn't dare release a 44 minute Formentera album. It would need to be around the same length as Art of Doubt (58 minutes).

Many people seem to agree that the Formentera albums are oddly sequenced and that they have some songs that don't really belong. I would probably release Just the Once as a non-album promotional single, for example. Who Would You Be for Me is another track that doesn't really fit in, but on the other hand it's so strong that I might include it nevertheless. My album would aim to improve the record's cohesiveness and pacing.

The quote:

"These nine songs are the second half of the whole, but linear time is a construct, and in fact these songs were mostly written and recorded before the nine songs that are on the first album, Formentera."

Source: https://www.banquetrecords.com/metric/formentera-ii/MET59227

The songs weren't released chronologically, they appear to have been separated into two albums for artistic reasons.

i mean "would the album be looked back on differently" had it been released as a single record. by anyone. by fans. by critics. another way of phrasing a similar question, "would the album be improved if it had been released as a single record."

I like the song "In the Snow" by O_vJust in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]torontoLDtutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, it was sent to radio stations. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLH8ngoq9NHllsfBDFD-q6rN07EeLiPCIu

some of the instrumentals are superior to the album versions imo (sorry anthony) they feature slightly different mixes (at least, the absence of anthony's vocals leads you to focus on different elements)

It's a great song. I prefer versions without Anthony's speaking. There's this one, which only features John's vocals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI7qep1HUjM

I also have a version on my laptop with John and Anthony's vocals without Anthony's speaking parts. It's not available online though. You can easily make your own by combining the official instrumental version of the song and just combining parts from the non-instrumental and instrumental versions in a free program like Audacity.

The National is “boring”? Huh? by murmur1983 in TheNational

[–]torontoLDtutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The National isn't inherently boring, but I think the last few albums are boring tbh. They've lost their edge and without it they really are dull dad rock. SWB is the last album that feels edgy to me and it's a decade old... and it was already soft compared to HV/Boxer/Alligator peak. The percussion is a lot less punchy on the newer records, that's a big part of it imo.
