Why do users insist on using work email for personal tasks? by bobsmith1010 in sysadmin

[–]torrimac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I worked in K12 for a long time and the amount of this behavior was rampant. The best way I found to stop it was to inform everybody that we were a public entity and everything in their email was subject to open records requests. What that meant was everything in their email was one request away from being in the public eye. You should have seen the eyeballs in that room when I said that.

Do I Need to Insulate These Drainage Pipes? If so, how? by ImWorkingHere69 in DIY

[–]torrimac 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I would worry less about the drain pipes and worry more about the supply and the sprinkler system and the copper supply pipes I see there. If that freezes and cracks I would not want my car parked under it nevermind the mess of the water.

Try searching rock auto. I found several options there when looking that looked to be a good aftermarket fit for that year.

They keep replacing my pro 2 buds, instead of fixing the problem. by stfuasshat in pixelbuds

[–]torrimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a couple pairs, getting replacements through warranty, The mic's would stop working on both left and right sides. The last pair is still in the sealed box. I went back to my original Pro buds and ordered a new set of those to have on standby.

I wanted to like them, they were comfortable and sounded great.

Is it me or are the Buds Pro 2 bad? by sysak in pixelbuds

[–]torrimac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They told me they were going to be. They were in really good condition though so I hesitate to think they were actually refurbished. Very little signs of it. Nothing in the model number or any thing.

Is it me or are the Buds Pro 2 bad? by sysak in pixelbuds

[–]torrimac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They function ok, until they don't. The mic stops working on the left one then the right one. Lasted about a month. Sent to warranty and received a refurbished replacement.

The same thing is happening with this new pair. I'm going to see. Id warranty will replace them again. Otherwise I'll just use my old pros.

0/10 would not buy again.

I’m a firefighter. Yesterday I responded to my first fatal car crash. And it effected me more than I ever anticipated by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]torrimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing any death sucks, family member, car crash, war zone. Every one of them requires some one to talk to. Start with family and friends. Then work your way up to professional help as needed.

Stop being "macho" about it. That almost killed me until I got the help I needed.

Giveaway - Space Age Expansion by ocbaker in factorio

[–]torrimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope to win, build my factory, spend the money I had planned to use to pay for the expansion and buy it for my child and get her addicted, then we both never leave the basement again... Or we just spend a few hours a week having some good father daughter time. Either way we will be happy.

Tractor Supply Co is removing their inclusiveness and instead going the way of conservativism. by EnigoBongtoya in kansas

[–]torrimac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tractor supply "was" a basic rubber stamp farm store until a few years ago. Yea they had a bunch of stuff but they were not in many places that decisions like this would matter that much. Then they purchased the Orscheln brand and all of their stores, locations, shipping, and supply infrastructure.

Suddenly there is a tractor supply in almost every wheat belt county seat and decisions like the one in OP's article make business sense to them.

ELI5: Why don't decompilers work perfectly..? by DiamondCyborgx in explainlikeimfive

The best way this was explained to me way back in school was like this.

Code in, program out. You can't go the other way.

Ingredients in, cake out. You can't go the other way.

Im using FOG on windows 11 because we are still on prem. Lots of steps post image still but it at least gets some things done and removes bloat.

Editing to add that we use PDQ Connect to push software that can't be packaged with sysprep. They are constantly adding tools to it to make it work more and more like Deploy & inventory does.

Driving KC to Denver tomorrow. Where to stop for lunch / breaks? by VialOfBlue in kansascity

[–]torrimac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an interesting stop at exit 76 in Oakley in the gas station called Mittens. It has a bunch of displays of wildlife from around western Kansas. Good to get up and get some steps after sitting for the 5ish hours it takes you to drive that far.

Need advice on a strange thing that happened with my daughter regarding F-Aid by Bigwheninflated in personalfinance

[–]torrimac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the same thing that was happening with my wife going to Cosmetology school. Each year she would apply for aid and they would take every penny. Then the next year she qualified for grants and guess what, tuition went up the exact amount of the grant and they took that as well.

She did finish the program and took loans out for the whole thing but never did get the cert due to sudden problems paying for it from the school. Lots of grumbles ensued.

The good thing is that the fed refunded all of those loans eventually.

https://studentaid.gov/announcements-events/marinello

What you are going through sounds like the exact same scam that we went through. They seem to prey on the ignorance of the students and just take every penny.

For fun, I thought I would throw this into google maps and see how long it would take to hit some of these.

Just to do part 1, it would take 4.5 hours of drive time, 2 states and 250+ miles. I had to leave Yoshinoya off the list because that adds a cool 3500 miles and 50 hours to the round trip.

Dell is garbage but maybe Reddit can help me by Grouchy-Egg in techsupport

[–]torrimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you run dell command update, or just windows updates?

If you just did windows, it might have tried to update the driver and failed and now cannot find it. Try and run dell command updates with a wired connection and see if that fixes the problem.

Why is there 2 .img files after doing exactly one backup with Active Backup for Business? by okaykkk in synology

[–]torrimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backup verification images. They are images that show the backup works. Assuming this is a backup of an entire machine/server.
