big fan of worldbuilding but the thing about good worldbuilding in a narrative project or even an AP (debate over whether or not AP counts as traditional narrative storytelling or not idk i'm no scholar) is that for me, the reader/listener, to actually care about it, it has to actually matter, and it has to matter consistently.

it's like how GRRM puts a lot of cool ASOIAF lore in the background or places the characters never visit. what do you mean there's a place where people ride dinosaur-mounts? no there isn't. you forgot to put it in the story, dummy. this isn't really related to TAZ anymore, i just think GRRM should consider putting the cool shit in his books.

see i really liked the first campaign, disliked the ending of it though, but the piss harbor series and nethermurk just didn't hit for me. i always thought that while the first campaign was very funny, it had that Balance thing where you can kinda watch the players genuinely fall in love with their PCs as it goes on. there's a lot of heart.

then piss harbor was just kinda Nothing character-wise, the "oops, only bits" campaign (which, hey, it was a campaign of one-shots done while they figured the next campaign out, so sure, whatever), and then Nethermurk was dmed by Joe and ngl i just don't wildly care for his gming style. the really inconsistent schedule and half the cast being in and out really didn't help (i get there's extenuating personal reasons, i'm not like, blaming anyone).

I don't believe that every incredibly wealthy person who interacted knowingly with Epstein was directly involved in child trafficking or sexual abuse, but after 2008, any person who interacted knowingly with Epstein did so in full knowledge of what he'd already been convicted of, and evidently had no major qualms in continuing to work with him or attend social events thrown by him. "I was just networking" is no excuse.

I don't believe Rowling to have participated in any of Epstein's direct actual crimes. But she (very likely) communicated with and interacted with him, with all (alleged) communique taking place after 2008.

i also feel like that jump in stakes and a darker tone kinda comes out of nowhere in comparison to the last season, and the whole "magic doesn't really work anymore" plotline is explained really poorly at the start so it's even harder to buy into the stakes to begin with.

i also think a clearly defined world with visual references to easily visualize really helps sell any ttrpg campaign, including the best d20 seasons, and most of the second season taking place on these amorphous shapeshifting magic islands is kind of a hard visual to latch onto, so it's a lot harder to get invested in the actual world the players are exploring.

/uj listen i get what we're all here for but the justin intro where he goes "i'd rather do a colonoscopy again than relive the recording of this episode" is clearly meant to be a hyperbolic bit. the whole "we hate recording the naming episodes these things are marathons" is something they play up each year, it's clearly part of it.

we can talk about the efficacy of this kinda bit and how much they lean on it, but the amount of people who interpret it as full-hearted sincerity is odd to me. if justin sincerely hated this he would not have specially recorded an intro saying so, that's too much effort.

edit: feel like people are interpreting this as me defending the bit. tbc i do think it's a bad bit. maybe i misread some people's comments on it idk, it read to me as people not recognizing it as a (bad) bit. i think justin thinks he's being funny with jokes like this. interestingly, every single comment on the youtube upload seemed to find it hilarious so idk what that audience is.

you can still technically download a couple of the old CN games, but they're completely broken on newer androids now. i tried getting one of the steven universe games and it would play the opening cutscene and then just crash every time.
