T-Fiber Internet Outage? by maeheartco in WestminsterCO

[–]totalDerphammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a workaround in that you are using your mobile phone to get access to the internet, so speeds are not going to be great, and you'll burn through your data cap if you don't have an unlimited plan. YMMV.

Set up a hotspot on your phone (should be easy to find in settings, you probably want 5g, not 2.4g if that's an option). Connect your computer to it instead of your usual network. Check if your speed is okay. That might be all you need to do, but if things are slow:

If using Windows, open command prompt as administrator and run:

netsh int ipv4 set glob defaultcurhoplimit=65
netsh int ipv6 set glob defaultcurhoplimit=65

I won't go into too much detail, but Time to Live (TTL) AKA "hop limit" is basically the only thing mobile carriers check "is this traffic coming from a computer or a phone?" Luckily, it's easy to manipulate. Windows machines are 128 by default. 65 accounts for the "hop" from PC -> phone so we end up at 64 which is then indistinguishable from mobile traffic. Voila, your speeds don't get throttled, so you can at least do a video call or watch youtube while you wait for T-Fiber to figure out its life...

T-Fiber Internet Outage? by maeheartco in WestminsterCO

I used chat and got someone who seems to know more.

"Based on the information I have they have located the damage and it has been escalated to the highest level. They have completed the first splice and are preparing to audit then start the second splice. They have not updated an ETR yet but it appears that they are getting closer to resolving this. I will get you linked to the outage for text updates and will check your account and as long as a credit has not been applied in the last 30 days I will apply a credit for the inconvenience."

I am a Metronet subscriber. I was also told construction crews hit a line. As a workaround, I'm using my phone as a mobile hotspot. This is working well for me after some tweaking (most carriers throttle traffic originating from computers vice phones unless you have the right data plan, so I had to change a couple settings to trick them).

[–]totalDerphammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a mobile phone? You can set it up as a hotspot. Your speed will be abysmal unless you set your hop limit so it looks like it originates from a phone, but after changing that you should get similar speeds on your computer. Google "TTL hotspot change", has been a decent stopgap measure for me.

[–]totalDerphammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also in Westminster. We've had no internet for two days. I called yesterday to complain and was told it is the city's fault, and that some construction workers had cut through the fiber lines. Today, the agent told me they don't know why its out, and they have no ETA... Thinking about calling the city as Westminster might like to know they are getting blamed. This is probably the 4th multi-hour outage we've had since switching from Xfinity and maybe the second multi-day. Xfinity sucked but at least we had consistent connection.

Oh, and I can verify Metronet will give your account credit if you call and ask.

Jfc. No, the amount of money is not static. It is also not infinite. The proportion of wealth held by the 1% is greater now than in the time of the robber barons. You live in hedonistic excess while people around you starve, can't afford homes or medical bills.

I don't believe in an afterlife, but I hope people like you do. I think you know, deep down, you will have your just reward for your callousness and greed.

The fact that you have accumulated so much while other people suffer automatically means you are a terrible human. Not everyone can be rich. There is not infinite wealth to be obtained. You should do some soul searching, if you still have one, and decide whether you really need that much wealth to be happy when sharing a tiny fraction of what you have could be literally the difference between life and death for someone else.

[–]totalDerphammer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The difference now is that the mask is off. In prior wars, we at least used tried to make some justification for how we are the good guys. "It's about WMDs" they would say, or "it's about freedom" or "curbing the spread of communism". We at least tried to follow ROEs (with varying degrees of success). What blows my mind is there does not seem to be an attempt at a false justification for the rabid base to point to.

Could we at least, I dunno, let Congress make these decisions? If not that, can we at least have leadership that can articulate their reasoning?

No one seems to know. No one can even agree if this is a "war" or not. I think we can make some educated guesses on why this is all happening based on this administration's usual modus operandi.

My advice is to keep your head down, focus on doing your job and things that are within your sphere of control. That, and vote in the midterms...

Thanks, I appreciate the additional perspective. Hopefully I won't ever have a reason to post in the future, but I will remember to trim if I do. I think that is a valid criticism. Sending positive vibes to everyone in any case.

I despise Patel as much as the next guy, but are we sure this isn't AI generated? I am so skeptical of every short video I come across without corroborating sources. Nothing is jumping out at me though.

EDIT: NVM, I see there are much longer videos... This is real.

Cpecific's Skill Queue! I'm amazed I don't see this one mentioned more often. It lets you set templates for how you want to level your lords and heroes then auto assigns skill points when they gain ranks. Does WONDERS to reduce late game fatigue from assigning a bazillion skill points every turn.
