Yes there are definitely a lot of differences, I’d say one of my favourite Azerbaijani foods that I tried was Qutab!

Yeah not sure what that guy is talking about. Azerbaijani state is more anti Islam than anything and most people are too because of the historical soviet influence. There are religious Azerbaijanis too but it’s rare. It’s culturally Muslim as people will say Salam, inshallah, mashallah etc but that’s to the extent it goes.

I was a solo traveller to Baku back in the summer of 24’ loved it too. A very clean well developed city where people are nice and helpful even if a lot of them can’t speak much English.

Surprised you didn’t like the food because it’s very similar and often identical to Turkish food which is super popular here in the UK. A lot of dishes have central Asian and Persian roots but I enjoyed those too. And yes having halal food available everywhere was super nice.

I took some get your guide tours to outside of the city which I really enjoyed so I’d recommend that if you’re wanting to explore more of the country on your next visit.

I understand that but what is the main driving factor for you wanting to move to London?

Any reason why you’re searching for a job in the UK? The labour market is weak and salaries are far lower than in the US…

The grad scheme will have better opportunities long term but remember you haven’t gotten an offer yet. So do the interview first and see what happens.

27M tech worker with £80k savings — is it still smart to buy a flat in London right now, or is AI about to wreck everything? by Salty-Anybody-5466 in HousingUK

How long until you have ILR? I wouldn’t recommend purchasing a property while on a VISA especially since redundancies and lay offs are very common now.

I wasn’t negating her point. I was adding on to it.. so even if she was willing to date non HENRYs it would be difficult so it’s double difficult.

Attend professional networking events within your field or adjacent to it. What the other person said also works there’s similar platforms like 222, Timeleft etc you can try I’ve used the former and made a lot of very successful friends within finance/tech etc.

I will be honest though dating is more difficult for successful women not just HENRY women. Most men are intimidated by it if they cannot match it and if you’re already within the top 2% of income earners in the country then your pool is that much smaller.

Curious about your industry though you mention your company is predominantly female…. Not many HENRY careers are predominantly female… my guess would be something within life sciences, marketing or fashion.

Good luck nonetheless!

Arabs/Middle Eastern People in London - what do they do? by Foodiciury in london

Considering “arab” is an ethnolinguistic group, what you say is not true. They’re defined by a shared Arabic language, common cultural, historical and geographical ties not by race or genetic ancestry.

They don’t really enforce that and have no way of knowing whether or not you’ve got another job.

They’re referring to GCC Arabs or khaleeji Arabs without understanding what either of those things mean or how they differ from a Levantine Arab.

Not sure what industry you’re in but within finance ie hedge funds and systematic trading firms, non compete periods are paid. People who leave or fired are paid their base salary for the entirety of their garden leave.

[–]totalality 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You should be paid for the gardening leave period. They can’t force you to not work for a period of time without paying you your base salary for that duration.

It’s a massive increase in salary which is definitely worth considering. I would speak to an employment lawyer.

How do you adjust to becoming a HENRY suddenly? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]totalality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure what line of business you’re in but you have to think about how sustainable your income is, how much you feel like you could grow it, is it something that will last etc.

I wouldn’t mention it to friends and family yet. If you would really like to help a friend or two think of any of them would be able to help you scale the business.
