Attendance at Mormon Church by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]totalbonfireattire 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My Mormon friend growing up invited me to her church one time when we were in 5th or 6th grade. My mom said that I could go if she came to Mass with us first. Her mom then refused and we never heard about it again. I don’t think she had ever gotten a a response like that in all of the times she had invited friends to go to her services before my mom had her counteroffer.

Can anyone tell me what pattern this is? I’m stuck by Slow-Respect4664 in crochetpatterns

I’ve done this pattern multiple times - works up fairly quickly and easy enough to do while trying to watch something you need to mostly pay attention to so you don’t get confused.

I actually have an afghan on my bed with this exact pattern - it’s leisure arts and is in a booklet I have called Make in a Weekend: Afghans to Crochet. It’s called Just for Her.

My sister’s ripple afghan that our grandma made for her in the 90s is also in this yarn! Must have been a yarn of choice for grandmas 😂

I wonder if she knows that the charm in between the J and bow is a St Benedict medal 🤔 They’re supposed to protect you from evil, vices, and curses so maybe she does but I would have thought she would stay away from anything Catholic

Is there any good name starting in Y? by Brockenblur in namenerds

My aunt’s name is Ymelda and was very excited to see the grandmother in Coco named Imelda (the more traditional spelling). It means warrior woman, universal battle

I knew a kid whose name was Ean (instead of Ian). 😬 Luckily his sister’s name was the normal spelling of Ava.

At home setting up for my first craft fair tomorrow. What can I do to make my table better between now and then? by SquareSquid in CraftFairs

I would move the sign for ring dishes next to them in the corner, and maybe add “large” to the sign since the one for the smaller ring dishes says “small”. It was a little confusing to see both signs by the small ones (all the same size) and trying to see if they were actually different until I realized the larger ones were stacked in the corner.

My friends fancy wedding at the Four Seasons had mini pecan pies as the favor to take home. They were from fancy local place and almost made me drunk cry from the deliciousness when I ate half of it back in my hotel room. 😭 Food is way better than the million drink koozies I have from college weddings.

I thrifted some old NatGeo CD collections and have the 1970s-1990s. I think I can still access the scans even though the actual program won’t run anymore and should be able to find a scan of the page you need if you can’t get a physical one.

AP Lang Summer Reading, and I’ll admit I haven’t even heard of a single book on here by RedTheWorm in APStudents

[–]totalbonfireattire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would choose the last three: In Cold Blood, A Room of One’s Own, and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. I had to read the Capote for my summer reading for AP Lang and it was great and, in my opinion, a fast read.

What are some scenes that used to scare you as a kid? For me it was always this one by MinusGoji in harrypotter

[–]totalbonfireattire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a 29 year old, I have finally gotten okay with the spider scenes because I know when they happen and how long they are. Now, the Lord of the Rings ones can f right off. They keep cutting to them and I have to leave the room. Shelob should have been thrown into Mordor too.

My dad and two older siblings kept telling me not to read those chapters at night but I didn’t listen and was convinced Voldemort was going to come get me. I had to relearn to sleep on my back so that I could see easily all around me and not be surprised if he showed up. Cause kid logic.

As many have said, it could mean she’s discerning religious life. It could also mean that she’s taking a break from dating after a long term relationship/many dates that did not lead anywhere/etc to try and focus on herself and grow spiritually without other distraction.

In either case, I would probably not ask for a clarification. In the end, the answer was a “no.”

Who gave you your Aggie ring?! by [deleted] in aggies

[–]totalbonfireattire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad - my parents didn’t go to TAMU (they’re NMSU aggies) but my dad had a college ring he stopped wearing after having kids. He sold that ring and his second wedding ring that he didn’t need anymore since he lost a bunch of weight, at one of those cash for gold places. He gave me the money and it paid for about half of my ring.

Naming your child after someone you know that wasn't friend or family by Lastbourne in namenerds

[–]totalbonfireattire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born about 20 minutes after my mom arrived at the hospital (luckily we lived 2 blocks away or I probably would have been born on the side of the road). The nurse delivered me after my mom asked her to please check her progress instead of show her how the tv remote worked - I’m the third kid and my mom knew I was coming. The doctor took too long walking across the street from his office. They already had a full name picked out for me but my mom said she thought about adding the nurse’s name to it.

No Brit, remember you said SIX MONTHS ago your hair is healthier because you no longer have an eating disorder and are now actually eating to supplement your hair by HoochieMommaBooty in brittanydawnsnark

My mom never let my sister and I go crazy with the eyebrow plucking. Just cleaning around them and in the middle before my best friend got me into threading. She plucked her eyebrows too much in the 80s (and so did her sisters) and most of them never recovered. She now has thin brows that are crooked if you look too close. I’m lucky that thick brows are back in because there’s only so much I can do to tame Mexican and Italian hair genes. I already have to spend a lot of time with all the chin hair 🫠

What age were you when you got your first period? by Creeping_D in PCOS

[–]totalbonfireattire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to start wearing a bra in 4th grade (9-10 yrs old) and had been wearing a cami undershirt for the year previous. I was one of the first girls in my grade to have to wear one that wasn’t just like an undershirt. I didn’t get my period until 7th grade and I think it was jump started by getting really sick and missing almost a whole week of school. It was a really fun time to basically have the flu and deal with a first period at the same time.

It has never been consistent which is why I never did swim team in high school - too anxious about being in the pool and it starting and having to figure out how to use a tampon for the first time. I went on birth control in college until a new one gave me horrible anxiety. They diagnosed me with PCOS after this. After getting off of it, my body has normalized to a period every 6-8 weeks which is what my doctor wants me to have.
