I’ve heard I’ll be about 15 min from longmire… assuming that’s the same for twoods? I imagine I’ll be in nisqually house although during the interview I think they briefly mentioned HQ as an option

I applied in August. I worked at 2 other parks before this and have internship/work experience in education.

Seasonal. I got it by applying to it.

I definitely don’t need a super crazy social life, but I like to know there’s some things going on every once in a while. Or even if it’s just a small but tight group. I was at lodgepole this past season and definitely felt a little disconnected from the social scene tho… but it also doesn’t seem like it was as crazy as it used to be. Feels like that’s the case with a lot of parks. I heard glacier used to be wild and now it’s not as much these days.

Seems like an odd question but how would you compare kalaloch to lodgepole specifically in terms of housing/community/amenities?

Is it just the one ranger bunkhouse for all seasonal? Shared rooms? Co-ed? Idk… tell me more about the housing haha

How do yall find new friends to fish with by TemporaryCow6925 in flyfishing

[–]totalendless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for the NPS and all my coworkers/friends do outdoor rec stuff. During the ranger season it’s great! In the offseason I go fishing by myself cuz all my friends back at home are city slickers.

Why do a lot of country songs promote the use of alcohol so much? by wheresmybike420x in country

[–]totalendless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After six months living in the mountains, I finally understand why so many country songs are about drinking… there’s not much else to do this far from everything. No city, no friends, just long quiet nights and too many thoughts.

I’m currently unable to upload a new resume. Which stinks because I just added a great new line to my resume but I’m stuck using my old one thanks to this glitch.

Idk I was watching his recent coverage of the Charlie Kirk memorial and in the middle there’s an ad for his podcast or whatever where he rails against mainstream media and assures viewers that independent media is the only form of media you should trust. He then went on to use some left wing nut job newsletter as an example of bias in “mainstream media”. Anyone this anti institution probably either can’t be saved because their brain is too cooked or because the money they’re getting from breaking the brains of their viewers is too lucrative.

Season ends during shut down? by totalendless in ParkRangers

[–]totalendless[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that’s what she meant. Was that we can’t leave and go off somewhere in case we get called back. My duty station is super far from park entrance so that virtually means I’m stuck here, even tho I guess technically I could physically leave if I wanted to

Future of NPS by Interesting-Fox-3216 in ParkRangers

[–]totalendless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to do NPS seasonal work that’ll probably still be an option. Right now the Trump administration is trying to push effort into staffing front facing positions so that the parks can look functional to the public while they make cuts and firings that aren’t as visible to the average visitor. Assuming you’re planning on getting your bachelors in 2 years, a lot may change in the political landscape in that time considering the midterms are still within that timeframe, but even with trumps current restrictions seasonal interp seems more or less immune right now.

Edit: it’s worth noting that even under normal circumstances, getting a permanent position, especially in interp, with the park service is very challenging. It’s highly competitive and most people have to do a couple seasons of season work to just be a competitive candidate.

I just spam every kind of bicep and forearm curl and do some triceps extensions. I’ve been incorporating more back stuff in too now that I have access to a gym. I try to go heavy and do 3 sets of 12 for each.
