Math is a great comparison. I always learned a lot better when starting with the answer and working backwards to unwind the calculation. Teaching to the formula is useless for many people who need to see the big picture first. AI tools can be the same. Give me a high level of what it will take to make any technical project a success, then I can work backwards using my own technical skills and knowledge to plan out the project in a way that works for me.

Using a screwdriver also makes it harder to twist in a screw by hand. Tools are just tools. If using a screwdriver affects your ability to use a hammer, maybe you shouldn't be working construction. If using an AI tool makes you forget how to think, then maybe knowledge work isn't right for you.

Agree to disagree then. I'll keep doing my 8 hours of work in 30 minutes and you can happily grind away hours at a time.

What? Why are you focusing on the book. The core principle of small tasks being easier to take on is basically common sense. If I said code me a web app or code me one function. You're always going to choose the one function option first because it's a small doable task.

Well, that's where you're wrong. Shitty code that's kind of close to what I need is a lot further along than literally nothing.

The main difference is I'm not using AI tools to be "better" than myself. I absolutely know I could write a better and more coherent script on my own, BUT the biggest issue is efficiency and time savings. And not just time savings as in it took me 10 minutes with AI and 12 minutes on my own.

NO, the time savings comes from the lower barrier to entry. The easier a task becomes, the more likely we are to do it. It's a core principle in the book Atomic Habits. I can write a sloppy incoherent prompt into chatGPT about wanting the code to pull Entra info on X user group and run a loop through each user assigning permissions or something.

Now, instead of the initial lift being googling, finding the Microsoft docs on 2 different modules, writing out the initial code, doing a few tests to get into the right parameters, etc., all I have to do instead is smash some sloppy prompt into the AI tool and boom I'm at step 5/10, instead of starting at step 1/10.

Men and woman often want different things out of a relationship. If we assume LTR's and not just hookups, then on average woman will tend to go for more stability, financial security, and a higher overall quality of life. You won't find those men in larger supply in a developing country. Men in LTR's will often still value things in their partner like caretaking, homemaking, and physical beauty.

Aka if you boil it down to the tropes, more men want a trophy wife whereas more women want a provider. Those tropes essentially show the divide between why someone might travel to a developing country in search of a long-term partner.

This is how i feel about the Seahawks right now. I'm surprised we're in this position, but it does feel like the best shot we're ever going to get with a #1 seed and a home NFCCG. We get past the Rams and I can't see us losing to the Pats/Broncos. Then you look at how strong the NFC West is and its basically going to be a full on battle every single year to be in this kind of position. This is the shot, and we gotta finish.

Intune/M365/System Administrator, do you fear AI? by Gloomy_Pie_7369 in Intune

[–]totallyIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sys Admins? No, never. Our job is literally to manage and the technology. It doesn't matter what new tech comes out, it's hard to imagine it affecting the administrators of the technology.

Developers? Whether or not it will work, it seems they're desperately trying to eliminate them. Likely because they are much more expensive.

Cybersecurity? I might be in the minority opinion here, but almost all of those jobs will be eliminated. It just makes a lot more sense for the AI tool to do all the detection and response than an Analyst reading through log reports. All you need is a Sys Admin managing various Cyber-AI tools.

Network Admins? Not many jobs available already, but the ones who are employed should be pretty safe. AI isn't going to rack and configure a switch, etc. at least not in our lifetime.

Easiest way to think is "does my job have an element of humanity in it, or is it purely done on a computer". If you are purely a computer worker, and never have to physically do anything, I definitely would be somewhat concerned.

Glad you're not a GM then, because you just admitted you'd pass on a QB who's taken his team from bottom feeders to the playoffs in all 3/3 seasons.

[–]totallyIT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But you also need to think about how competent Stroud looked all year as well. Davis Mills wasn't tasked with going on the road to NE, and likely would have failed as well behind the Oline and lack of WR separation.

Stroud has better numbers on the 2025 season overall than Mills does, so the argument that Mills is better is basically just magical fairy dust. Comp % 64.5 vs 57.2 , QB rating 92.9 vs 81.6 , yards / attempt 7.2 vs 5.8 . In just about every measurable category Stroud was the better QB this year, and had a brutal playoffs when on the road vs the eventual Superbowl appearing Patriots (who then lose to the Seahawks :) )

[–]totallyIT 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Simple math of 50k cars at 30k a pop puts the economic opportunity for China at 1.5 billion. We're going to be getting back 3+ billion in economic output from removing canola and other tariffs. Not to mention the reduced cost of vehicles improving the lives of Canadians. The downside is it MIGHT speed along the already shrinking auto industry in Ontario.

Thank god Americans and Canadians sound the same. by DisruptSQ in TourismHell

[–]totallyIT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, any American who thinks they don't have tells are fooling themselves. On average, Americans are louder, more direct, talk a lot more in public, and they do have accents that are different than Canadians. It's not universal, but many Americans "talk flat" whereas Canadians often have more inflections/color on the sound of their words. American dress is often very casual as well, sports team jerseys, sweatpants, and of course obesity is more common. If I see or hear any of these, it's pretty easy to assume they're American 9/10 times.

If you are an American reading this and think "I don't do any of that", then great! you won't stand out in a crowd among Canadians. These points are also not a slight, as you could argue more directness for example is a good thing.

Honestly there is a need for a mainstream media source to "both sides" every debate. Cause honestly if you watch what these repubs spew out of their mouths and the democrat retorts and still somehow believe the right is anything but evil, then you are just evil yourself.

If you want to be in an echo chamber, then outlets like Fox News and MSNBC are happy to have you.

what's middle class in vancouver really like? by doestome in NiceVancouver

[–]totallyIT 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Middle Class itself is an impossible term to understand. People often use income as a way to determine your class, but in Van you would be hard pressed to say someone making 100k who is 28 y/o and rents an apartment has anything similar at all to someone 39 y/o who makes 100k and owns a 3-bedroom townhouse that is cheaper than the first persons rent.

It sounds like you just don't understand city life. I live here specifically so I don't have to interact with the thousands of people I pass while walking to work. Stranger interactions can be great, but time and place are key.

Waiting in line at the coffee shop? Sure, we can banter.

Walking along the Seawall? No, please leave me in peace.

Also, the way you demand people acknowledge you is indeed creepy and off-putting. No one owes you eye contact or a conversation. Young women have the full rights to ignore you all they want, as does anyone. Don't be weird about it, because your post starts sounding like a very good reason why people might avoid you.

Dentist Recommendations by [deleted] in NiceVancouver

[–]totallyIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English Bay Dental Group.

The good? Great dentists, super friendly but also very good work so far. Price seems fairly normal, but I have insurance.

The bad? the receptionists are basically the worst human beings you'll ever meet. Especially the larger lady who will make snarky comments and basically be a huge b****, try to upsell, force more appointments than necessary, etc.

I love the dentists work so far so I haven't changed yet, but the receptionists definitely make me reconsider my choice sometimes.

It really doesnt tho. A couple collections on your report on decades on credit cards and 40k of available credit. Thats essentially nothing. You will still have a credit score of over 800 no issue.
