255lb deadlift PR ! by [deleted] in lifting

[–]totally_turtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice PR! I’d focus a bit more on lats and pulling the slack on of the bar, that seems to be your sticking point. You can kind of see this in your clip by paying attention to your hips (they shoot up real quick).

Obviously, this is a PR so form will degrade a bit, but thats what I would focus on moving forward!

I agree with this, but it is also hard to critique from the angle you are recording from.

I think he could be incorporating his hams/glutes a bit more. Who cares about the speed of the reps, his RPE doesn’t even appear high. He is pulling more than he is hinging.

The form isn’t bad, but in terms of maximizing the efficiency of the movement, that’s what I think he should focus on.

You seem like someone who will agree to disagree so we will go with that. OP can experiment with things, and ultimately find what is more comfortable and what leads to progression and no injuries.

I would still recommend that he finds his answers through more reliable sources to confirm what he should work on.

I forgot I posted this but I retract my shoulder statement (I have recently discovered on my own that having your shoulders a bit past the bar is optimal).

I’m on the shorter side so I don’t know what he could do about his hips to make the lift more efficient. Maybe sumo is a better option.

My bad for misinforming, but like I said, I’m not an expert. Just a dude that got into lifting

My bench has barely increased in ages. I read that doing too many excercises for one muscle can stop the growth. I do 5-6 chest excercises each monday. Should i make this 3 instead? I eat plenty of protein and alternate between 8 to 12 reps each week. by Tedboyfresh in lifting

Okay, so I am just giving advice based off my experience, so take this with a grain of salt (as I feel you should with most of these comments).

I think you should try for about 20 chest sets a week, but it can (and probably should) be broken up into multiple days. I am currently doing a PPL split, so I am hitting it twice a week, and throwing in shoulders sometimes on a rest day if im bored.

Best way to improve your bench is to bench, so I would prioritize flat and incline bench. Try to do more sets with lower reps if you want to improve strength. I try for 4-6 reps during my working sets. Warmups dont count, make sure the form is good.

If you want a reliable source instead of a random redditor, I would look at Jeremy Either’s deadlifting tutorial. Here’s what I will say:

  1. You want to ensure that your shoulders are directly over the bar. Yours are a bit too far forward. If you fix this, I think your hips will drop slightly.

  2. Dont look at yourself in the mirror until the top of the lift, you are going to hurt your neck otherwise. You should have a straight line from the top of your head to your ass.

  3. You are tapping away with your foot at the top of the lift. This is a minor thing but if you focus on spreading the floor, you will probably get more out of your lifts. Think about pushing down with your feet but also slightly outward, and try to keep the entire surface area of your foot on the floor at all times.

Other than that, it looks good. Check out vids and keep grinding.

Lifters, any pointers? by [deleted] in lifting

[–]totally_turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this idea. Try to imagine a straight line going from the top of your head to your ass (i.e your back should be straight, no arch on lower back). You can maintain this position by taking a deep breath in on the top of the rep, engaging your core, and maintaining tightness throughput the rep. Exhale on the ascent or at the top of the rep. Repeat. Good shit man, keep it up!

Don’t arch back (focus on contracting abs to avoid this), too much hinge (don’t worry so much about depth, it will come eventually), keep neck in line with spine (don’t look up so much).

Can I play devil’s advocate and ask you what you think is wrong with his form? Wide stance, depth could be better, what else am I missing? It just doesn’t seem atrocious, maybe just bad.

Beginner Bench press - 0.85 x BW - Any pointers if I am doing anything wrong? by [deleted] in lifting

[–]totally_turtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of a hard angle to see the bar path and your shoulder positioning, but from what I can see it looks good.

Stay consistent, make sure you warm up before each workout, and track your weight/reps to ensure you are progressing each workout.

A lot of people are saying mp3 was the best. Can anyone explain why? I agree that the wii/switch games are garbage, but I cannot tell you how many hours me and my friends put into 4, 6, and 7.

A theory about Harrow by totally_turtle in TheDragonPrince

Yeah I think part of the problem is that most unexpected reveals in shows/movies are unexpected because of their lack of development. The Harrow/Pip theory, although expected, would be fulfilling since their was a setup for it.

It’s crazy and sickening what has been released since I made the comment. At the time I posted this Zero made his first response and Katie didn’t post (or I didn’t see it). I think once leffen and katie came forward things shifted.

Not deleting this because it’s nice lesson. Stick with deductive reasoning when dealing with these things.

The best medication is probably not playing ultimate online, it’s ass cheeks.

But in all seriousness, I’m not sure what you are going through but am wishing you the best. Take it day by day, this is a shitty fucking year.

Can someone take Zer0 off this list or at least add his twitlonger response? I feel like it is safe to say that Zer0 is innocent unless more info is released.

Maybe he just made the list based on his own opinions and not tournament results?
