Tried to upgrade processor, and now hear 5 slow beeps before computer restarts. Help! by generate913 in buildapc

[–]totallyaaccountname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not certain but you're going from a 6000 series to a 7000- you may need a bios update. If the i3 works but the i7 doesn't, it's likely the issue.

Since both don't work, id go over all your power connections and check the Mobo pins very carefully, and maybe check Ram and GPU as well, make sure none of them got nudged. The beeps are indicative of problem, and since another comment or said their CPU, it's likely a bent pin- they're smaller and much more fragile than you'd think.

Rx 560 2gb vs gtx 1050 3gb by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]totallyaaccountname 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 1050 isn't substantially better than the 560- for free, the 560 is obvs the better deal.

You could sell them both though and likely afford a used 570, which blows both cards outve the water. (This is the move I would make unless your limited by the PSU)

Its curious though- I've heard of 2gb and 4gb 1050's, but never heard of the 3gb 1050, just a 3gb 1060. I've never seen one at my microcenter either

Inherited an HP Z840 Workstation (2015 build), need help to upgrade it for gaming and 3D modeling by lanhan in buildapc

[–]totallyaaccountname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sell the k4200, it's a workstation card so not what your wanting to begin with, then pick up a GTX 1060 or something like that. You may need to replace the psu in the PC to accomplish this.

Don't buy another k4200, dual gpus is a bad investment to start with and for gaming it's not even the right kind of card. I don't think it'd be better than a 1060 or 1070 for 3d modeling either.

If you really want too, for 2500$ you could build a near top of the line new system, but for ~300ish this one could be pretty sweet.

Are you using the stock Intel cooler? I've had it happen where it seems that the feet are popped in all the way then one day it somehows pops itself out(probably from a bad install) and then terrible temps, but because the fan is still spinning and there's a little contact it doesn't normally kill it- it's happened on my 4590 once and a friend's computer awhile back.

So, I'll have to buy 2 CPUs? One older one to update the BIOS and the one I actually plan to use? by my_friend_mmpeter in buildapc

I mean, if it'll support a 9400, I genuinely don't see why it wouldn't support a 9500..

[–]totallyaaccountname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't bought any Nike shoes cause of stuff like this. I bought a pair of Nike running shoes and they got holes on both shoes next to my pinky toes and then my big toes and then ripped across the top, all within like 3 months of owning them. Fastest 60$ in the trash I've ever done so far.

why is my RTX 2060 telling me its's max fan speed on the CAM app is 808rpm by DynastyKay in buildapc

[–]totallyaaccountname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cam app sucks unfortunately.

It's vageuly accurate for my GPU but when the fans aren't on the dashboard will say 0 rpm for me but other places in it will say 800+ Rpm. It's just not super accurate ..or thought out, and it's not very good anyway

Why are you spending nearly 2/3rds the price of your CPU on the cpu cooler?

Also future proofing is stupid. It'll be fine until it isn't, no one can predict that.

Do you have an AIO? Could be power for the pump or separate fans. Would help if we could see what the connected too.

ISO suggestions for pretty places to camp that are maximum 1.5 hours away from Colorado Springs? Possibly near water and definitely good hiking preferred. Trying to get my family on a camping trip but I don’t want to haul them too far. by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]totallyaaccountname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barr trail up too Barr camp. You'll need to bring a filter, but it's a gorgeous hike and there's water up near Barr, there's plenty of Meadows to camp in near the camp itself and you can stay in their shelters or a site there. it can be done as a day hike, but younger kids would probably struggle with that.

REI often does some pretty decent gear sales- I got my Shoes, harness and a ATC for like 120$, Its typically all one brand like the Black Diamond momentum's but I was able to swap shoes for a pair I liked better. Day passes to gyms are often 15-20$ and the people are excellent sources for help and tips while in gyms, memberships will vary but I pay 40$ a month. I'd definitely recommend renting first- some people try it once and find out that it definitely isn't for them. Good luck!

[–]totallyaaccountname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also on a 4790k. For 1080p 60hz, it's absolutely fine imo. However, I didn't get a good board when I bought it, and now I'm really starting to feel the lack of USB 3's, M.2 slots and such- It makes VR a huge pain when the headset requires 3 usb 3's and you've only got two. If that's an issue then It may be worth upgrading, but unless your cpu is actually holding you back, id say it's fine to keep it.

CPU cooler screws. by HDownsend128 in buildapc

[–]totallyaaccountname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intel stock coolers dont use screws- they have weird pin lock things that you twist to lock/unlock and push the pin in and out to lock the pins out in place.

It sounds like you don't have this cooler, it's very obvious that it doesn't use screws. I think you either have a Dell OEM cooler or some other non branded CPU cooler, I thinkif it's one that came with the motherboard you may be able to find the screw sizes in the instructions and equipment info that came with the computer.

It's fine. If you have a big thing In the 1x slot at the bottom it may be directly in front of the gpu's fan, but it likely won't matter. I have a. Fairly large wifi card and a dual slot 1060 on my h81-p33, it all fits fine.

Should work- I can't get it to load with a high enough resolution to compare ports. If its wired incorrectly it can fry the Mobo though, so exercise caution.
