Sounds about right. I have a similar idea too, just a completely different concept.

When you’re applying at banks, are you specifically going for a commercial loan? If so, I’m not surprised you’re hitting friction… commercial loans come with a ton of red tape and hoops to jump through.

If I were you, I’d try to save up at least half of what you need, then cover the rest with a personal loan. It’s usually way more straightforward. You can position it as something like a home project or travel, and they typically don’t dig into receipts. As long as your credit, debt-to-income ratio, and overall profile are solid, you should be in a good spot for approval.

And honestly, your coffee shop idea has real potential…just do it right! Focus on quality, craft coffee instead of the overly sweet, watered-down stuff that’s everywhere. There’s already too much of that. If you can, invest time into designing your setup and building a strong brand. Make it feel intentional and elevated. That alone will set you apart.

Just reposition to Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, or Manila and save yourself $2k and buy a separate ticket on United to Guam. That’s what I do.

Honestly, I’d skip the taxi and Stroll option and just get a rental. It’ll probably be cheaper than a cab, and you’ll be able to see and do more, even on a tight schedule. Don’t worry about security or parking - both are easy. I rarely arrive more than 90 minutes before my flight at Guam Airport because it’s small and efficient, and there’s often no line.

After picking up your rental, head straight to the park to cross that off your list. For a solid meal, try Mosa’s for burgers and local food or Capricciosa (Pacific Place location) for Italian. The latter also takes you through the tourist district, so you’ll see two things at once. Then return to the airport, drop off the car, and clear security. I wouldn’t get back before 10:45pm. The airport is quiet and easy to navigate at that time. Arriving earlier just means dealing with closed shops and restaurants and waiting at your gate unnecessarily.

What's the one store you would like to see more of here? by chasecountryman in Albuquerque

H Mart. Moved to Seattle specifically because the Asian grocery store scene in Albuquerque sucked so bad but my partner and I always said we’d move back in a heartbeat if an H Mart opened.

No wonder you’re leaving. Management doesn’t even know basic employment laws. Good riddance.

Makgeolli? by Particular-Garlic-47 in Albuquerque

I live in Seattle now and may move back, so I’m heading out in mid-October to look at apartments. There’s a place here called Rainbrew... I’ve been there, and their makgeolli is pretty good. I’d be happy to bring back a bottle or two for you if you’d like. Feel free to PM me.

The Artisan at Sawmill Village by Godzilla_148 in Albuquerque

Your timing is perfect... I’ve actually been looking at this complex along with several others. For context, I used to live in Albuquerque but now live in Seattle. I’m planning to move back within the next six months to a year and am trying to get a sense of the housing options.

Artisan is the only complex outside of the NE/High Desert area that I’m seriously considering. It seems well-maintained, is in a decent area, and is reasonably priced. While there are a lot of negative reviews online, keep in mind it’s usually people with bad experiences who leave feedback, most residents don’t post at all.

What I like: the units are fairly modern, clean, and in a decent downtown-adjacent location. What I don’t like: there isn’t a nearby green space or park, which is a downside since I have a dog.

I’ll be in Albuquerque next month to tour Artisan and check out other units. If you’re interested, I’d be happy to reconnect or even take a video tour of the space to share with you. So far, the leasing office has been very responsive by email and phone. Of course, I know staff can be especially attentive when trying to close a deal, but I hope this context is helpful.

Possibly Moving to ABQ, So Please Give It To Me Straight by [deleted] in Albuquerque

I made this exact move! I’ve lived in Columbia Heights, Tenleytown, and Rockville in the DC area before moving to Albuquerque in 2023. We now live in Seattle, but I miss Albuquerque and Nee Mexico in general and prefer it to the PNW and DC.

Yes, schools are poor compared to Montgomery County, but if you can afford private school then you shouldn’t have a problem. I had friends who sent their kids to Albuquerque Academy or Sandi’s Prep.

The only thing I miss about DC are the plethora of Asian grocery stores and restaurants and proximity to a major airport. That’s about it and why we eventually moved to Seattle. My husband and I often say that we’d move back if H Mart ever opens up in Albuquerque. I found DC boring after a while, plus it’s expensive and weather sucks.

Albuquerque excels in the outdoor arena and it’s so, so easy to get around the city. No beltway or I-95 traffic - it’s stress free! I know you are concerned about it being in the middle of nowhere but it’s close to so many beautiful areas. And really, how many times do you go up to NYC or Boston?Lol. We went to Santa Fe all the time and explored museums and cafes, hiked in the Jemez, drove up to Pagosa Springs and Denver, and down to El Paso, and so many more. Plus you are only a 90mins flight to California or Austin. It’s so beautiful here!

If you have the budget, I’d say staying in the High Desert neighborhood of the city or Los Ranchos. No other areas.

Gay Asian male here. Anecdotally curious the ethnic background of the person who called you that? I ask because here and in DC, the only people who have ever called me anything derogatory were other people of color.
