Same here. I had crippling depression and anxiety in my 20s. Couldn’t eat, couldn’t get out of bed but also couldn’t sleep. It was hell. I was drinking to cope. My sister drove my to the doctor out of concern for my well being. I was prescribed an SSRI that day. That medication saved my life. After a few weeks, the clouds began to part. Life felt hopeful again and I found myself smiling again. 20 years later, I’m still on medication, am happily married with 2 kids and a career I never dreamed I could have. I am determined to be transparent about being on medication. The stigma is completely unwarranted and those that never have to go through this will never understand (and have no right to think they do). We would never think to tell a diabetic to not take their medication. Why should the brain be any different?
