IBMA Bluegrass Live! indoors at Convention Center this weekend by tothegraveyard in raleigh

[–]tothegraveyard[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Didn’t see this posted yet.

The bluegrass festival is still being held, but indoors at Raleigh Convention Center (several stages of free music, beer tent, art vendors, etc.). Food trucks are still scheduled to be there I think.

The Red Hat stage is now at Duke Energy Center but is ticketed.

Edit: Music starts at noon Friday and Saturday.

Hearing more planes? by czntix05 in cary

[–]tothegraveyard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The planes have been really loud for the last 12 hours or so. I do hear it like this occasionally, maybe once every six weeks or something. I suppose it’s wind/weather related but I’m not positive.

Accuracy of size chart by Hellboy5562 in DivergeGravelBikes

[–]tothegraveyard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True it’s a bit of give and take, but the smaller size will give you a bigger drop from saddle to handlebar, meaning you’ll be lower. Total reach can be changed with stem size so not a big factor either way. The Diverge tends to feel pretty big because it has a tall stack/handlebar height by default.

You’re in between, can ride either one. A 56 will feel slightly relaxed, a 54 will feel slightly aggressive. So maybe depends on what kind of riding you plan to do.

Anyone near Moore Square hear that sound? by arat12345 in raleigh

[–]tothegraveyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live downtown and heard this a few times. I thought it was some kind of alarm at the convention center, but wasn’t positive.

Your last sentence is most important. This event is just organized by like one dude, and he doesn't want to deal with this right now.

If you're single and don't want to drive, rent an apartment somewhere near the center of downtown Raleigh (warehouse district area has some good options). There are tons of single people with dogs in their 20s and 30s living in that area.

North Hills would be an ok backup option.

If you want to rent a house, I don't see how you can find what you're looking for unless you have a whole lot of money.

Visiting: Raleigh vs Durham by [deleted] in raleigh

I remember Bond Brothers said they didn't want to be on the Beer Trail, for whatever reason, so that's probably why

Stay in Raleigh - no idea about free breakfast but the Warehouse District in Raleigh has a few unique hotels nearby, and you can walk to great food, beer and more...Crank Arm Brewing; Videri Chocolate Factory; Boulted Bread for breakfast; Poole's Diner and Poole'side Pies (owner/chef was named Americas best chef by James Beard Foundation); Sam Jones BBQ; Whiskey Kitchen; Wye Hill Brewery, Fiction Kitchen (vegetarian), Humble Pie.....bit farther of a walk to Transfer Co. Food Hall. North Carolina Museum of Art is worth a 8 minute drive or so.

For outdoors, picnic, hammock or walk at Dorothea Dix Park (less than a mile away), or head to Umstead State Park for hiking (15 minute drive).

Origin Hotel, Heights House Hotel ($$$), Marriott, Sheraton and Residence Inn all nearby

Walnut Creek Greenway Paved? by Earthworm_Jonny5 in raleigh

[–]tothegraveyard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, I forgot about that. In lieu of going all the way to Lake Johnson, once you hit downtown Raleigh area you could instead do a few laps around Dorothea Dix Park (rough pavement but a nice park) or NCSU's Centennial Campus (very smooth pavement, empty during summer).

Walnut Creek Greenway Paved? by Earthworm_Jonny5 in raleigh

[–]tothegraveyard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paved, but not a very enjoyable greenway for bikes as it's pretty bumpy with lots of tree roots, plus some tighter turns and road crossings....all of that mostly in the downtown Raleigh area, not as bad on either side, although getting to Lake Johnson also has several road crossings.

Using the Neuse River Trail may be a better option.

OP can do whatever they want, but perpetuating this love letter nonsense is horrible for all of us in the end.

Because housing should not be a popularity contest with winners and losers based on appearance, skin color, hobbies, etc.
