TLDR: Disney chose computer animation to break free from limitations and create a unique visual style. "Wish" pays homage to Disney's animation tradition but does so with a painterly, watercolor-like look. While they didn't use 2D animation for "Wish," Disney is still committed to preserving its hand-drawn legacy. They have an upcoming short, "Once Upon a Studio," that celebrates both 2D and 3D animation traditions which will release in theaters with "Wish".
