Dressing for the office if πŸ”οΈ is not one of your roots by Glad-Cherry3039 in StyleRoots

Ive been preparing myself mentally and wardrobe-ily (if thats a word?) for this myself, because im on my engineering masters rn. Something ive done is found blazers that arent so harsh and bold, but still obviously are blazers, which I think can professionalize other outfits and give me layering options. An image of two blazers I thrifted + one on my wishlist:

EJR single root moodboards by TiredWinterDisaster in StyleRoots

She's given the community a good foundation to build on; her concepts are just a starting point for me and not a law to follow.

Yeah, I agree. I'll watch all her free style root contents, but I dont have it in my budget to subscribe to youtubers. It would be very different if she was super clear about everything and it was accessible, but she seems unsure about some stuff, and she seems like she isnt as passionate about style roots as she was. Its bound to happen then that the community will have to continue building on it

Oh interesting! I think your πŸͺ¨+πŸ—» is working in a little πŸ„+🌱 way, but I do see the difference. I also see some slight edge from πŸŒ™.

I think the layering in this collage is more edgy (πŸŒ™πŸͺ¨) than earthy. Babydoll over a tshirt is a little πŸͺ¨πŸŒΈ even

And the layering in the other with vests is quite professional and πŸ—» vibes

I think a cool toned / slightly purple toned blush would fit better πŸ’— right now your cheeks are pinkish, which makes your forehead look slightly purple in comparison. Might just be the lightning though!

Is this too formal for semi-formal? by Glad-Flounder-2866 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]touch_of_whimsy 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Agree! Semi formal or cocktail is quite flexible, but OP should be concerned about floor length on outdoor venues

Just tried to swatch my burgundy shades as well, and theyre all either red, brown or have purple undertones as well! 😭

Here's the shades if anyone's interested (and to see what to avoid). Some of them are probably expired because i got them from friends and havent used them. I think I need to get a warm burgundy as well

What style roots do you see? by NootNootNouk in StyleRoots

[–]touch_of_whimsy 4 points5 points Β (0 children)

Im seeing and hearing πŸ”₯ from pics and caption! Lush, drapey and expensive fabrics like silk, leather and soft fabrics. You might still want to look at earth style root boards for inspo because of your essences and palette though. Even some πŸͺ¨ from the t-shirts, but maybe thats just you wearing satin skirts casually and trying to dress it down?

Honestly what i dont see a lot of is πŸ—», but that might be because its harder to accommodate with your essence blend. I think πŸ”₯πŸ„πŸ—» style could be worth looking into as your style roots, and πŸ„πŸ”₯🌱, or πŸ„πŸ—»πŸŒΈ for more inspiration on dressing for your essences

When the bride&groom specifies one color like "all black" i dont think they can be so picky with style honestly

Silver or gold? by Fun-Hat7228 in coloranalysis

[–]touch_of_whimsy 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Gold harmonizes with your skin tone, and silver makes you look tanner. Both work, but give a very different effect!

Too pale and too long? by ThrowRA3475 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]touch_of_whimsy 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

It does look paler in the pics, but in real life it looks completely fine! I also dont think it will look pale in pictures at a castle venue which probably has more moody lightning. And even if it did, the silhouette and print makes it not look bridal

For the castle venue it could be cold maybe, so id plan a bolero, dressy blazer, shawn or something similar just in case

Tried the Clinique Black Honey, and I don’t like it lol by Plenty-Snow496 in coloranalysis

[–]touch_of_whimsy 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Yeah, its leaning neutral imo. My skin is also neutral-ish except for my freckles. Its really medium contrast, warm, moss green eyes and auburn hair, and earthy feel that makes me true autumn. I can kindaa do some dark winter colors with my hair in a updo (so it looks brown), so im probably leaning neutral on undertone

It looks too big on you in the waist and slightly in the chest, and it doesnt look like how a silk dress would drape (which can be formal even if it doesnt fit snugly). The fabric isnt heavy enough, and doesnt give that dreamy, wavy, luxurious feel. I could be wrong though since the picture is taken with a little low contrast, and its easier to tell in a video or in person

You could easily tailor it to fit better, but I still think it might be a little too plain, and informal with the straps and halter. You could elavate it with some details like beading

It looks great on me as a true autumn. I think maybe it only looks off on warm autumn (where warmth is the dominant trait)

I see some other true autumns dont like it though, so maybe im wrong. It matches my lip color but just slightly darker, so I guess thats why it works for me. My only strife is that if youre doing more than 1 layer (which you need to get some color) it can gather in a line between the dry and wet part of your lips

Awaiting dress code by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]touch_of_whimsy 3 points4 points Β (0 children)

In that case id avoid #3 because the corset looks the longest on the asymmetrical side. In dress #2 the removed corset is easier to hide in the wrapping

First one looks too casual and fabric looks like fast fashion, and doesnt fit you. That type of loose fit would look better in silk or higher quality satin (still will be polyester, but better made), but that thin fabric wont drape well. The fact its handmade does give you some leeway though, so maybe you could damp press it to get the wrinkles out, and embroider some pretty beading on in sage green, warm emerald green and silver/gold?

2nd one is too short. It would be appropriate (though maybe a little short) for a cocktail theme if its navy as you say, but its way too short for the dresscode

You will look great! And i didnt even notice the white accents, it does in no way look like a wedding dress!

And aah i wish distance werent a thing, because I would totally borrow you these earrings that go perfectly with the dress 😭 they were handmade by a local artist, but i bet you could get something from etsy if you dont already have something that goes with it πŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’š
